US travelers decided to venture down to Quepos for an evening. We gave Santana a try because of the interesting decor outside and in. We had a group of 5. Everyone hated their main course but the ceviche was fresh and the beer was cold. I wouldn't venture beyond that on their menu.

We were in Costa Rica in December, right before the high season. We first tried out a few restaurants on the road from Quepos to Manuel Antonio, but since those are tourists-only restaurants, and there were not a lot of tourists, they were always empty and lacked ambiance. That is when we decided to try Santana's in Quepos. It's located 1min walk from the bus station. The ambiance there was sooo much better! The place was filled with locals, which was far more interesting. The waited spoke perfect english and was very friendly. Service was perfect, food was delicious, and prices were not too high.

We had our last Costa Rican dinner at this gorgeous tica place on January 12, 2013, and got very pleasant vibes from its neat atmosphere and top notch service. We were greeted at the threshold by its welcoming staff and suggested to chose the best seats. We were pleasantly surprised by quality/price ratio, since most decent places we visited before were considerably overpriced. Whole fried red snapper (we ordered medium, but it was still huge) and seafood looked spectacular, and even our picky 6 year old appreciated the taste. But most importantly, it was my husband's Birthday, and at a last minute notice the owner himself arranged for a beautifully served birthday cake in a more than friendly atmosphere and absolutely free! Long story short, it was an evening to remember, and as we left we felt like saying goodbye to friends, not just people who did their job, and did it very well!

I am staying in Quepos for six months and our treat is to go to Santana's for the Red Snapper.
The whole fish is cooked and it is easy to get the bones out. It is so worth the effort. I usually don't like fried foods, but the Red Snapper is a gotta have meal. It is not at all greasy. It is crispy and delightful. It is actually fun and Great tasting! Quepos is a nice town. I love it here.
