“Wish we'd stayed at home, best avoided”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

Ended up here as our intended place was closed (was a Monday night) and this place looked fairly busy when we walked passed.
Fish of the day had such peppered vegetables that I could barely eat them and the fish was blackened on the underside. My Cuba libre-rum and coke tasted off, so I sent it back and received an equally off tasting second one. Children's meal chips where over cooked. Partners meal was average but expensive for what he got. The staff were not very friendly and genuine. We noticed that on table next to us a family sent back two of their meals as they were cold.

Also they had a 2 for 1 cocktail happy hour but for some reason you couldn't have it if you were eating, you had to be at the bar to get the deal - strange way to treat customers who are spending quite a bit on food already?!

On the plus side, place had a nice vibe and they gave young children crayons and paper to keep them entertained during their meal however this didn't make up for the poor quality, overpriced food. Sadly one of the worst meals we've had when eating out in CR over the past month, we won't be going back, if you have to go there, best to hit the bar and aviod the food. Tourist trap.

“Good seafood”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

Fun ambiance, and good seafood. The ceviche wasn't as tasty as we had hoped, but my blackened tuna steak and my wife's grouper filet were fantastic. Cocktails were pretty good too.

“Great seafood”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

El Gran Escape is definitely worth a visit. Seafood is fresh and well-prepared. The seafood trio--shrimp, tuna, fish--was delicious. Chicken fajitas were wonderful, except for the shells. They were homemade, small and rather bland for our tastes.

“Great seafood w/ great service!”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

We stopped in on our first night in Quepos & The Gran Escape set the bar high in both the service & the food. The ceviche was probably the best we had while in Costa Rica & all of the seafood was extremely fresh. "Tico time" was non-existent with the service as we received our drinks & food very quickly with our server checking in on us frequently. I only mention this as we later found out that this type of exemplary service is the exception, not the rule in Costa Rica. The owner was also hands on & she went around to all of the tables to check on everything, despite the fact that it was an extremely busy night.
If you only eat at one restaurant in Quepos, make it El Gran Escape!
PS-thanks for the coasters!
