“Great home but...odd owner, house rules are a joke...”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

First off, i have to add that the home is great. Well kept, clean and in a nice tropical location. It is well appointed for a family and laid out well. But i also have to add that the owner is a bit "overzealous" with her property, bordering on kind of disturbing.
Like a lot of properties in Costa Rica, the owner lives on the property. She is an older german lady who has owned it quite a while if not the entire time. I believe she built it if i remember one of her stories.
But as one of the other reviewers mentioned, she really laid into us when we returned from and an excursion in the afternoon only to find her knocking on the door and coming right in within 2 minutes of us returning. She wanted to let us know that we had left the air conditioner on when we left. not all of them, just the one in the main room. Coming from a dry climate, i was not used to the unbelievable humidity. we just wanted to room to be cool when we got back as it takes a while for the unit to cool with the small AC unit hanging over the window. Its just a portable AC so it runs long to cool the main area of the unit. She said that we could not have the AC under 20 degrees and that 17 was not allowed. she said that she did not want to pay for the electricity to run the unit all day when we were gone and that it will destroy the home. she knows its on because she monitors the drains. I understood and complied but she really was upset. not the best people skills. I really do not think she liked the notion of us leaving it on all night.
also we had some friends stop in while they were in town for the night and she instantly barged in again in the morning to let us know that if we had more people in the home than listed we would have to pay extra. We were there a full week and they stayed one night. she was livid that our friends did some laundry with ours (a backpack full)...she called us on it because she went through the wash and found womens clothes (panties) and we did not have any women in our party. She actually held up the undergarments to prove it wasn't our laundry. Its like we were getting scolded by my grandma.
We just sort of felt like we were being watched and always on the cusp of doing something wrong. Dont park there, dont hang that there, you cant wash that, dont leave that on and ants are normal, its a jungle.
I would recommend the place because it is nice and kept. it is hard to get to via taxi and some taxis will not go into the area because they need to be 4x4. they drop you off up the road for a wicked walk. the walk to the beach is definitely a long one and a trek uphill on the way back, but doable for the fit person. wifi was hit and miss but available. i felt a bit intimidated to ask her to reboot the router knowing how our stay started.
she definitely does not have any privacy boundaries and will walk into the home when she wants with little warning (knock knock, shes coming in...). It is her place but we are guests and pay for the use of the place and expect to have boundaries met. i do not believe she understands those boundaries maybe because of her age or high expectation of her guests and wild "house rules".

We stayed here one night and I only wished it was longer. If we ever travel back to this area, I will definitely be staying here. The apartment was so clean, the deck was perfect and we had an amazing rainfall the night we were there to listen to! The pool is perfect and you are set far enough from the activity of the town to have some quiet rest! You are truly in the midst of the rainforest. It is gorgeous! Kristina was very nice and helpful. I will recommend this place to everyone.
Thank you for the wonderful stay and I hope to return to enjoy it longer!

We just returned from 17 wonderful days at Villa Kristina. The place is immaculate, the grounds and pool are beautiful, and Kristina is a meticulous and gracious host. If you want to be right in the action, this is not for you. But if you want privacy, peace and tranquility and are willing to hike a bit into town or rent a car, then look no further.

Room Tip: We stayed in Apartment #2 and the other couple we travelled with were in Apartment #1. The two apart...

Just came back from a 17 day stay at Villa Kristina and our experience was exactly what we were looking for. Kristina keeps the place very clean and well manicured, she provides excellent service and is very friendly and helpful. You can see that she takes pride in her place and wants her guests to relax and feel at home. We spent many afternoons in the pool peering into the jungle watching the monkeys, sloths, birds and butterfly's. It is a little gem with wonderful hospitality.

My family and I stayed at Villa Kristina in December of 2013 for 8 nights, we rented apartment #1. There was 5 of us and we staying in the apartment and we fit there comfortably.

Kristina keeps the place in emaculate condition. Each day she does come into the apartment and clean, give new towels, and make the beds, but she always did it while we were out of the place and never knew she was there.

The pool and landscaping were done beautifully, and it was hard to tell we were in the middle of the rainforest. It truly felt as if we were staying at a resort with how the condition of the building was. It is a good distance away from the busy touristy roads and people so you truly only hear the peaceful sound and noises of the rainforest that surrounds you.

While staying at Villa Kristina, we saw numerous lizards, birds, tree frogs, squirrel monkeys, sloths and countless insects. The monkeys were even on the power lines and roof of Villa Kristina.

Once we arrived, Kristina recommended a grocery store to go to so that we could buy some food and cook in the full kitchen that she provides. It was not far from the Villa, and people in Quepos were more than happy to help if you ever were lost.

I would recommend renting a 4x4 if you are driving to Villa Kristina because the road is pretty steep to climb.

Yes, I read the positive reviews here and decided to take a chance. My experience has been that others rave reviews don't always measure up. In this instance they most certainly do. If you are looking for an exceptionally clean, comfortable and beautiful escape from the tourists and noise, this is the spot. Kristina is a gem! She works diligently to maintain a pristine environment that is tasteful and appropriate to the environment. The property has beautiful flowers surrounding the pool and house. The apartment has a view of the ocean and sits in the forest, complete quiet except for the many colorful birds that come to visit and the howler monkeys that wake you in the morning. This was perhaps the most relaxing place I have stayed in over 10 years. Kristina is charming and attentive but not intrusive. I could have stayed here much longer! It felt like home, or what home should feel like!

Villa Kristina is exactly the kind of place we wanted for our two week stay in Costa Rica during the month of November. Kristina keeps the two floor apartment in imaculate condtion with a kitchen well equiped to prepare your own meals easily. The view from both balconies is stunning, such a great place to have morning coffee (5:30 am) and listen to the howler monkeys. During our two week stay we were able to watch Squirrel monkeys, White Faced Capuchin monkeys, Soths and Tucans not to menion an array of birds and butterflys, make visits to the trees adjacent to the pool. The pool is very nice and the grounds around have been planted by Kristina with beautiful flowers and shrubs.

You can walk to Quepos down hill most of the way on the old road and take a taxi back ($6 US) if necessary. We enjoyed this walk as there is lots to look at on the way. Local buses are also available for 60 cents (285 colones), but you will need to walk 10 to 15 minutes on a gravel road from the villa to the paved road where the bus stop is located. We did this on numerous occasions, especially when heading to the beaches near Manuel Antonio for the day.

Kristina (the owner) is a gem. She was more than willing to offer assitance ordering a taxi, requesting the express service from Quepos for small grocery orders, etc and general knowledge of the area.

We did walk down to Playa la Macha (the closest beach) which is quite isloated and private, but good foot wear is recommended because the trail is slippery and steep in places.

Five of us stayed in apartment 1 quite comfortably (4 adults and 1 child) The apartment has wifi and a safe for valuables.

We are eager to return to our second home away from home, as we miss this little piece of heaven that Kristina has created and nurtured.
