Hotel Tioga is located at the boulevard at the main front beach of Puntarenas, very close to night life bars, and lots of restaurants. A very nice point for the Puntarenas' Carnavals, even to see it from the balconies.

Has rooms for more than 4 people, so it could become a cheaper option for big groups. The place do look seem a bit old, with a very humid ambience and bit of humid wood smell.

Looks a hotel for a short stay term. Breakfast is a simple costarrican style: rice, beans, eggs, bread and some meat.

Room tip: Rooms on the new building are nicer with great balcony

Excellent clean family oriented hotel with free internet service, nice swimming pool and free secure parking. Located in front of the beach of Puntarenas at the heart of the city. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The hotel has a very clean restaurant with delicious international and Costarican food. The sunsets in Puntarenas are spectacular. Just walk to the beach in front of the hotel, sit at your balcony or go to the restaurant, and you can experience nature at its best. The hotel is administered by the family that owns the hotel, who are willing to assist you at any time, to make you feel at home. Its the perfect hotel to rest and vacation if you need to relax with your love ones in comfort.

Room tip: Get a room in front of the beech.

Got stuck in this grimy port town by accident and Fodors recommended this grande old dame of a hotel. Grand it is not. It's very 50s and pink. The guy at the desk was a hoot - he was like Manuel in Fawlty Towers, answering a million phones and talking to numerous guests all at the same time. He wanted 130 dollars for a room. When I showed him that Fodors quoted 80, he said ok, but no hot water! We laughed and took it. The room was the lowest grimiest of the rooms in the hotel - you wouldn't even put the waiter's cat in there. The ac didn't work. It was right next to a poolful of screaming kids. Manuel sent up a man with a spray can and a small ladder but he couldn't fix the ac - sweat pouring off us in this tropical heat. We talked to Manuel again - this time, no smiles, no laughter - he caved and gave us a nice room in adjoining building.

If you have the chance to stay in Puntarenas, stay away from this place.

Creepy rooms, walls have holes and looks like you are in 1930.

AC is really old sounds like a turbine

No hot water.

You can hear your neighbor showering.
The pool waterpump is always making noises as well as the ice machine

Not fancy, but clean and reasonably priced. The decore is pretty old - probably built in the late 1950s or early 1960s. (The flowered bedspreads match the drapes, and I think I had the same set in 1967.) This is not a luxury hotel, but the staff is friendly, and the rooms are clean. There is good water pressure for your shower, and the wifi works to check your email. The room was $79, including free parking and a cooked-to-order typical Costa Rican breakfast.
