“Paradise! Consider volunteering”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2014

My wife and I spent a week volunteering at Bolita and we loved every minute of it! The location is so perfect - right smack in the middle of wilderness, certainly off the "beaten trail". Waking up to the sound of macaws, hanging out in hammocks, hiking the wonderful trails... paradise!

Staying as volunteers meant we got to stay for free, in exchange for only a few hours of work each day. It was a pleasure to help out with such a beautiful and meaningful project, I'd love to go back and stay longer! Check out our blog post for more details & some photos we took there.

The owners created a place where people enjoy love every second of their stay! A must for anyone looking for a jungle experience! Being envirenmetally friendly is Rons objective. The trails to Corcovado were easily accessible. Wildlife everywhere!

go there! it was the coolest hostel i ve ever been to! you are IN THE MIDDLE of the jungle. it is pure adventure. I also liked how clean the toilets, (warm!) showers and the kitchen are.
There are always nice people around. If you go there you will definately stay longer than you planned. one of the most beautiful places ive been to in costa rica!

Being in Bolita hostel was definitelly a unique experience and most wonderful time we had in Costa Rica. If you want to avoid mass tourism and immerse yourself in nature, this is the right place to go. You'll hear the howler monkeys and birds when waking up in the morning and crickets before going to sleep. You can hike on maintained trails and watch the wildlife, enjoy waterfalls and swim in Rio Tigre. Bolita hostel will provide you as much comfort as possible to have in the jungle, away from the civilization.
The only negative is having to go back to the rush and noise of the city as this experience is mindshifting!

Well i've only been to one place in Corcovado but still I know it's the best. It takes some effort to reach the hostel. First a bus from puerto jiminez to some small village close to the park. Then a half hour walk through the jungle and there you are. Because of it's remote location directly next to the corcovado park (you can just walk into the park) it's a real jungle experience. Ron, the owner, will tell you everything about the plants and animals. He maintains something like 14 kilometers of trails to hike. This way you can explore the nature yourself. Everything in the hostel is recycled, there's much respect for the nature. At night, Ron carried some beers up to the hostel. There is a kitchen to cook you're own meal (bring food yourself). When you lay in the hammock you will see macaws and toucans. On the trails you will see snakes, spider monkeys, howlers, coloured frogs and much more. It was a magical experience in a very laid back atmosphere. Not to be missed!

If you are looking for a peaceful getaway far away from civilization with breath taking views of the rainforest, then I would recommend bolita.org as your hostel. It has all of the facilities one needs and most importantly a wonderful and helpful host.

The way to the lodge is very rough, but its worth doing it! We spend there 3 awesome days with hiking, relaxing, bathing, exploring the nature and talking with the other guests and volunteers. The trails that the 2 owners created are very cool, the landscape is awesome! Unfortunately we didn't see any mammals, but birds, snakes, many beautiful plants and insects. The area of the hostel is also really nice, clean restrooms and showers, an outdoor kitchen, hammocks, ... And almost everything is eco friendly! We could decide if we wanted to sleep in the wooden hostel house (2 dorms, 1 double room) or somewhere more privat. In the night you hear the djungle and monkeys and can see the stars!
All in all we would have liked to stay longer as this is an awesome place! Probably a good alternative to the national park as it is in the same forrest!
