“Superlatives to describe this gem have been exhausted”

My wife and I recently returned home after spending five weeks touring Costa Rica during which time we stayed in nine hotels/lodges and the Lookout Inn was the most memorable. We pre-booked six days and each was a delight - no wonder it gets an almost 100 per cent five-star rating.
There is an abundance of wildlife on the doorstep including dozens and dozens of scarlet macaws and troops of monkeys - we saw all four species within a mile of the lodge.
Reaching the Lookout Lodge is a bit demanding but well worth the effort and immediately you arrive you will be made to feel at home by the boss Terry, his wife Katya, Jeff and the rest of the team. The welcome from Polly the macaw might not be so warm!
Each meal, prepared by a wonderful chef who uses local produce and starts well before dawn, was anticipated with delight - you can even watch from the no-shoes bar and dining area balcony as Terry haggles over the price of a giant fish caught that day.
The sunrises and sunsets were stunning and life here is so laid-back you could be on another planet.
If you are planning to go to Costa Rica make an effort to experience the Lookout Inn- I am sure you will not be disappointed. It's what this lovely country is all about.

We just spent a week at the Lookout Inn with Terry and Katya, and I must say it was my favorite vacation so far. We travel often, but going to the Lookout is special. We have been there twice now, and we still haven't gotten enough. We will return to the great fishing, hiking, gold panning, photography, meals, and drinks with Terry and his crew as often as we can. A typical day consisted of early morning fishing, good breakfast, then a trek up the Carate for a little gold panning. Back in time for lunch then a relaxing hot afternoon around the pool with drinks and friends. Maybe a little more afternoon fishing, then a fantastic dinner followed by drinks then a night hike to the beach and lagoon where you can see crocs or even an out of season turtle laying eggs on the beach. You can't go wrong at the Lookout. Thanks again to Terry, Katya, Jeff, Erik, Fernando, and the rest of the great staff and friends at the Lookout Inn. Can't wait to see you all next time!

Carate is an amazing place at the tip of the Osa Peninsula. I would definitely recommend being there.
It is a remote place an there are no supermarkets or restaurants. You can only eat at the lodge you are staying (all inclusive deal).

The lookout inn offers great food (and plenty off).
The main lobby is viewing the beach and happy hour is during sunset. The house pet is a scarlot macow that just flew in one day, he is free and chooses to visit the inn every day. Great atmosphere during dinner.
The local guide Erik is nice. Free internet is provided.

Costa Rica is such an amazing place to visit. So green, so blue. And the perfect antidote for a winter-weary family of four. We've visited Costa Rica before, but this trip we stayed off the grid and in the wild jungles of the Osa penisula. The Lookout Inn was the perfect place for our family to kick back and relax. Our little screened house in the jungle allowed us to hear the crashing waves on the beach 24-7 and wake up to the wild sounds of the jungle around us: screeching scarlet macaws, chirping birds, whirring locusts. If you like wildlife and want to be at the cross-section of hundreds of species, then this is the place for you. To balance all the wildness, there's Terry and Katya, the owners of the Lookout Inn, with three delicious meal a day (really, our sons have never eaten so many vegetables) and plenty of suggestions for things to do such as guided hikes in Corcavado National Park or walks to waterfalls in the jungle (where we saw several electric blue morpho butterflies). It's hot, hot, hot in Costa Rica, but the pool was blissfully cool and so were the Imperial beers on the terrace at sunset. We've already booked for next year.

It was my first time in Costa Rica and didn't know what to expect, but the Lookout Inn exceeded my expectations. The very friendly staff makes you feel like your at home. Their cooks prepare delicious meals three times a day, all of their meals are excellent. The grounds of the Inn are manicured very well and the rooms very beautiful as well. i would recommend the Lookout Inn for anyone planning on staying in Costa Rica.

My wife, sons and I travel a lot (domestically and international), both for business and pleasure, but we all agree our best vacation ever was at the Lookout Inn in Carate, Costa Rica. We just returned from a week at the Lookout Inn and were blown away by the natural surroundings, excellent staff especially Jeff, wonderful food and the innkeepers Terry and Katya. The beach is almost deserted and it's an easy hike to nearby waterfalls and the Corvocado National Park. Wildlife abounds with monkeys, coati mundi, anteaters and more roaming about. Plus, there are wild Scarlet MaCaws everywhere and for an up close encounter with a macaw, there's the resident bird Polly. We had traveled to Costa Rica previously so we knew what to expect when it came to the natural wonders, but the Lookout staff made us feel like part of their family from the moment we arrived. Being off the grid in one of the world's most beautiful places with great people helped all of us completely unwind. And, I as I mentioned earlier, the food was exceptional. We also highly recommend the guide Eric who took us through the National Park and pointed out many animals we would have otherwise missed. We had such a great time, we're booked to return again next year!
