God I love this place! Where to start? First of all, this is a very special, unique place in a remote area so it may not be for everyone but if you are interested in nature and seclusion it's perfect. The owners are fantastic, very welcoming and the staff are incredible. I have never encountered a better run place than this. Everyone goes above and beyond, the service is 5 star. The cabins are beautiful, open aired and you can spot animals all over the grounds. A tapir came right up to our cabin. The food is amazing, the beach is beautiful and secluded and there is do much to do there! They have wonderful common areas where everyone can lounge, a great little pool and plenty of hammocks. We went for 2 beautiful hikes , did a night frog tour and also were close enough to corcovado to go there for half a day. I would highly recommend this incredible lodge to anyone looking for a quiet paradise.

I am originally from South America.. so the jungle is something I grew up with. Experiencing it in such an amazing setting surrounded by fantastic people that go out of their way to make your experience out of this world is priceless!
Katya and Terry the owners, along with their staff, are fantastic. They make you feel welcome!. They went out of their way to make our group feel special. Obie / Juanqui made sure that all my favorite stuff were around (limes that taste like a hybrid of lime and tangerine), patacones (fried plantains), etc. I felt super spoiled.
The rooms were awesome... you could experience the ocean, the fauna and the beautiful flora all at once. I literally lost sense of time and put every day stuff away. Quite the tropical paradise.
Loved every minute of it.... from the hikes, to the paddling, to the facial, to my favorite hammock!.
Simply put... FANTASTIC!!!!. This is DEFINETELY a repeat!.

For the fourth time in ten years, we had the Best Vacation Ever at the Lookout Inn!!! Terry and Katya are the most gracious hosts 24/7 in one of the most remote outposts imaginable!! It is only them and their attentive small crew who take care of every guests’ daily needs: provide three lovely, organic, imaginative, delicious meals daily plus cocktail time snacks in the hillside/beachside setting they have created which only gets better every time we go! We have visited two years in succession this time and we already miss it terribly-the fine features mentioned above plus the voices of the forest and the ocean, the heat and the shade, the breezes and the 93 degree ocean!!! The daily air temp. this January varied between 95-115; sounds hot and it is if you are directly under ol’ sol; BUT you don’t need to be as there is so much shade everywhere: the jungle trails are under a lovely canopy of trees growing in arches over the main road and shady lane plus just huge old, original forest over most of every trail. Usually, there is a lovely ocean breeze, so if you are anywhere near either seaside or deckside, it will blow the heat away, down to the 95 level in the shade. Feels like the line between body and air has disappeared!! Terry and Katya have provided beachside palapas with plenty chaise lounges and also plenty hammocks and a big bonus: a shower with fresh water right there! Nature provides the purest oxygen and blue skis, fabulous artesian well water , the leafy canopy, the critters, the macaws…and did I mention Pierre Tapir?? The Baird’s tapir is NOT extinct at the Lookout!!! He comes by nightly to sample what Terry has provided and pose for photos-a large member of the horse family with a lovely calm demeanor. There are tapir footprints on the beach indicating that Pierre is not alone in Carate.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite for 8 days and totally love it (second time there), but wanted to...

Just finished my 8th trip to Lookout Inn and held my 6th photography workshop there and it just keeps getting better every year. All in my group had a wonderful time and left with memories of a lifetime. Great food and clean comfortable accommodations all nestled in a tropical paradise. The owners go out of there way to make everyone feel like an old friend and not just another guest. I just can't recommend Lookout Inn enough to anyone looking for a kick-back relax vacation............prepare to be stress free!

Room Tip: Lookout inn has a variety of room to choose from, I highly recommend the private cabinas overlooking...

We had a fantastic time at the Lookout Inn in January. It is probably the BEST place in Costa Rica to see wild scarlet macaws. The wildlife viewing is first rate. Terry and Katya are wonderful hosts (their staff is very friendly and helpful too) and a wealth of information. There is a wide variety of guided tours (the lodge is only an hour's walk from Corcovado) and unguided activities to do. We loved taking the canoe out to the lagoon to see the various water birds, monkeys, and caimans, hiking the Stairway to Heaven, walking on the beautiful beach, hiking up the Rio Carate, and just hanging out at the Lookout Inn to enjoy the fabulous macaw sightings. We were even fortunate enough to see the giant tapir on one of his nightly visits to the Lookout Inn for bananas. One of the many highlights of our trip was being able to help a new born baby turtle make its way safely to the ocean (we were late for peak hatching season which is in December). We were amazed at what Terry and Katya are able to provide in terms of creature comforts in such a remote location and being totally off the grid (solar powered). There are no outlets in your room, however, you can charge your electronics at the main lodge and there is wifi at the lodge as well. The rooms are all different and unique in their own way. We loved the Blue Butterfly open cabina with its high location above the lodge and enjoyed the daily visits of 2 wild macaws who will fly up to the lodge for sunflower seed treats, you can get within feet of them! I totally agree with TraveljdMaryland's recent detailed review. There are many stairs at the lodge because it it built on a hillside, but that is one of the best things about the lodge, it has a fabulous location just steps from a spectacular beach and has the best views of any of the lodges in the area. We got so much exercise at the lodge, that for once, I didn't gain any weight, despite partaking in the wholesome and hearty meals provided by the lodge. Highly recommended if you love getting off the beaten track, meeting interesting and wonderful fellow travelers, seeing a plethora of wildlife, being close to the beach, and great customer service and food, and wonderful hosts. We WILL be back! Virginia from Washington

Room Tip: Recommend one of the open air cabinas. If you are reasonably fit and don't mind stairt, Blue Bu...

The Lookout Inn is beautiful, the location outstanding, the food incredible and the people amazing. We originally booked for a couple nights but had such a good time that we stayed for a whole week. And we will come back.
PS Go for the Ron Ponch at happy hour!
