Lookout Inn was all we thought it would be.Terry, Katya & Staff made it perfect! Terry answered all of my many questions I had before booking the trip and he is a most gracious host.
It is worth the time it takes to get there. We stayed in the Monkey House and it is a very romantic setting! We had fresh flowers in our room and I loved the netting around the bed.It does require 48 steps to get to it, but well worth it. You definitely get in shape staying there. I loved listening to the macaw's and the ocean every night and waking up to the sound. There are no bugs, only Halloween crabs that come out at night and head to the beach so wear closed toed shoes if you head to the beach at night! The monkeys came 3 times during our stay and did not come into our house, they just jumped from the roof to the trees ! It was AWESOME!
Laying in the hammocks in our house we saw a toucan, monkeys, lizards, coati and other birds I cannot name .The flora & fauna are spectacular also , Terry did a great job of transforming Lookout Inn into a paradise.I took over 500 pics while staying there.
We hiked to area waterfalls and they gave us a map as we did not want a guide. We walked on the beach a lot and for the 7 days we were there only saw people on the beach twice! I think for the most part the guests were like us and wanted privacy. They were a very diverse group and we enjoyed the family style meals and talking about our daily adventures.
I highly recommend Lookout Inn if you are looking for solitude, watching birds & animals, hiking, great scenery and wonderful food!

I just returned from 10 days at the Lookout Inn, Carate on the OSA Peninsula; although I live on the Atlantic Ocean north of Boston, the sound of the ocean at the Lookout Inn flows through my veins. I have a dear friend -Julie Cooper- who is the massage therapist and Yoga instructor at Lookout during High Season, who kindly guided me around the OSA. I count Terry & Katya, and the entire staff at Lookout as dear friends now. Such is their dedication and attentiveness. And Lookout is a gateway to the soul of the OSA. It might be easy to overlook the detail that each meal is offered on a different deck of the Lookout. This is a detail of renewal, a hinge on an ever opening doorway to experiences of the jungle, the beach, the shades of green and animal lives.
The right people in the right place. Your spirit will be replenished. Go. Now.

Lookout Inn is a little piece of paradise. It is up a hill and has a great view of the ocean. Right on the premises you can see and hear the ocean. At the night the sound of the ocean is very soothing. And of course there is plenty of wildlife on the premises. You can see macaws, coati, parrots, turtles, frogs, etc. You can easily walk to the beach where there is an area to relax in with beach chairs located in the shade. You can ride horses on the beach and visit the wonderful rain forest. The food is great. We eat family style and it was a wonderful opportunity meeting people from around the world. The facility is very clean. You can walk up the Stairway to Heaven and see a beautiful waterfall. The owners, Terry and Katya are great hosts. They are always around making sure you have everything you need. The staff are very personable. It was one of the best places I have ever stayed in. I highly recommend it to anyone going to Costa Rica who really wants a unique experience and a little piece of paradise.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great.

If you want to hike directly into Corcovado National Park, "the most biologically diverse place on earth," the Lookout Inn is the place to stay. We day hiked into Corcovado from the Lookout Inn with Elias, a guide provided by Terry, and saw an enormous variety of wildlife. Elias is amazing, insightful and a little spiritual when speaking of his native land. We even photographed a Puma perched in a tree overlooking the beach just south of the park's entrance on the way back.

On our own, we hiked up the Lookout Inn's "Stairway to Heaven" and over to the triple waterfall which turned out to be the best waterfall hike of our vacation.

We met a lot of repeat visitors while on our visit, including a group of wildlife photographers and a team of geologists. The Lookout Inn's happy hours and community dinners promote camaraderie. We had a lot of laughs with Terry and the other guests.

As I told Terry when we left, "You're a genius."

Room Tip: Stayed in one of the two Tiki Huts which were secluded and well ventilated, but share a bathroom.

The Inn is perched up a hill and has a great view of the area. There are spots on three levels to sit and look over the beach. There is lots of wildlife on the premises: macaws regularly criss-cross overhead; a troup of coati (racoon family) come around regularly. There are hummingbirds, parrots, geckos, frogs. The beach has shade areas (great for reading or just relaxing) and a fresh water pipe. The food is delicious - one night we had fish that the cook had caught earlier in the day. Fresh fruit and eggs every morning. Guests can choose to eat by themselves or with other guests. We met some really nice people. For after-dinner, there are board games. There is a big library with novels and also books about Costa Rica and Osa. The place is kept very clean. There are lots of places to go walking: paths on the property, paths coming off the main road, along the beach, through the nearby national park. Terry and Katya are great hosts, always checking up to make sure everything is going well. The staff are very pleasant. Overall, this is one of the best vacation spots we have been to.

Room Tip: If I were to do it over, I would stay in a tiki hut. It would be nice to have the evening breezes fl...

What a terrible place. The waves are so noisy you can't sleep properly, the swimming pool is taken up by frogs, you're constantly molested by the beautiful fragrance of Ylan Ylan, the sunsets are so kitschy that it hurts, snakes nearly fall into your food at dinner time, you keep tripping over toads on the footpaths at night and the birds are so colourful that you think they've spiked your drink. To top it all, owner Terry's knees creak so loudly that it's scary. As you can tell, we've had a blast.
When I went through my photographs post-holiday to caption them, I noticed that almost all my wildlife pics were taken at the Lookout Inn. What a place! If your're too lazy to hike into one of the world's most biodiverse habitats, Corcovado National Park, then just grab a beer, sit on the Lookout Inn terrace and wait for all the wildlife to come to you.
Do not expect five-star luxury in a place that far-off everything, the so-called hot shower was hot only once in six days, but that's not what you go there for.
Will we go back there? Absolutely!

Terry, Katya and all the crew, thanks for a fantastic time.

My family and I stayed here for a week and celebrated New Years Eve 2011 on the beach with a BBQ and bonfire! Which was great fun even though Terry thought that he would change time to convince all the guests that it was midnight at 8pm and pack us all off to bed like good little guests! Don't expect gourmet food every night as all the food has to be either flown in or take a 3 hour round trip to the nearest store! So it is not surprising to see last nights leftovers re-hashed for lunch the following day in the spirit of recycling! Or to notice that the cockerel has stopped crowing! Don't get me wrong I loved this place, and 5* luxury would be wrong in a wildlife haven so far off the beaten track.
Do book an outdoor room as the rooms in the main lodge are rather like motel rooms as another reviewer pointed out. However, what a place! The view from the Lookout is sublime situated at the edge of Corcovado National park an amazing amount of wildlife is just waiting to be spotted! And plenty of wildlife will come to the Inn, moneys, coatis snakes, frogs, toads, humming birds, lizards! The beach is fantastic, you can walk for miles without seeing another person. If you want peace, quiet and a relaxing get away with friendly hosts, staff and like minded guests then this is the place to go! We are looking forward to going again!!!!

Room Tip: Tiki Hut, Spa room or monkey room
