My wife and I recently (last week in April 2013) stayed at Osa Clandestina and had a great time. The cabins were clean and comfortable, with monkeys and tropical birds visible daily from our private deck. The food was cooked to order, was local, fresh and organic, and was very good...it was wonderful to come back from surfing, hiking or whatever and have your next meal all set to go! Osa Clandestina is THE closest lodge to Pan Dulce (less than 5 minute walk)! The waves at Pan Dulce and Backwash were very good overall, both superfun, long rights with usually no more than 4-5 people in the water, and never more than 10. And the 85 degree water made it even better!

We took advantage of private yoga and massages which were great. Also, went on a nature hike/tree climb through Everyday Adventures which was a blast. The staff provided much helpful information--I should mention that Mary Alice, who is mentioned in many of the other reviews, is no longer at Osa Clandestina, but Vanessa, Vilma, and Gabo did a wonderful job hosting our stay.

We would have only a couple minor negative comments: first, the website should mention that since the pool is spring/stream fed, it is empty and not usable during most of the dry season. And 1-2 more comfortable chairs (in addition to the hammock) on the deck would be nice.

All and all, the Osa peninsula, and the Matapalo area in particular, is a truly special place...uncrowded and unspoiled, nice people, warm weather, warm water, and a great place to surf. This was our first trip to Costa Rica, and it surely won't be our last!!!

We stayed for 8 nights at Osa Clandestina. This is a tranquilo rustic comfort resort for travelers who like their own space but also like to connect with similar types. Bungalows are clean, simple, comfortable, and well designed. Food is local and organic and made mostly to order by Mary Alice, the manager of the place. She also provided lots of info and tips about the area, but did not pressure us to do anything. We hiked to waterfalls, surfed (make sure it is surf season though it you want this to be the focus of your stay), checked out the jungle, kayaked, walked to the "end of the world," saw four different species of monkeys, sat on the beach, watched scarlet macaws fly overhead, etc...

This isn't the cheapest place in the area, but seemed to be a good value relative to the area, which is more expensive than other places in Costa Rica.

Room Tip: All the bungalows are great!

This is the most serenely beautiful place I've been to in my life. I still can't believe I'm here right now as I type this review. The adventure of riding in a small craft on Sansa Airlines to the jungle safari ride to the beautiful cabins, Osa Clandestina is truly an escape from the bustle of America. Here the sounds of the ocean and jungle are music to my ears as I lay in the hammocks and enjoy the deliciously served foods. The cabins are beautifully decorated and are cozy like a home away from home. Be sure to stock up on your favorite foods in the City before coming down to the osa. Wear your flipflops/sneakers and sunscreen!

I have been going to Costa Rica my entire life (25 years now), and have been to almost every beach on both coasts. However, there is no contest: Osa is by far the best locale, boasting the most diverse wildlife and the sickest waves around. This is not the Costa Rica of mass development, and thankfully there is not a fast food restaurant to be found. Rather, this is the Costa Rica of old- in all its untouched splendor. I first started coming to Osa 3 years ago, and have not been able to stay away since; making a twice annual trip has now become routine. Simply put, this place is magic. It's one of those great finds that you wish you could keep to yourself, but is simply too good not to share. The cabins at Clandestina are roomy with 2 super comfortable queen-sized beds, a patio with a hammock where you can watch the monkeys/birds go about their daily routines (if you're lucky you may even see a jaguar), and a private bathroom complete with hot water for a shower. There are 3 pristine beaches all located within walking distance (the closest being under a 5 minute walk), good for swimming and renowned for surfing. The staff is courteous and kind, always ready to greet you with a smile. The cabins were cleaned daily, and 3 extraordinarily delicious meals are freshly prepared every day by the resident chef who is a genius in the kitchen (all organic local produce is used, so not only is everything tasty but it's healthy as well and supports the local economy). On top of all that, should you care to take surf lessons, go boating, or repel from waterfalls/trees in the rainforest, simply ask the staff to assist and they will set up all your desired excursions. However, the premise itself boasts a natural fresh water pool, a hiking trail that leads into the rainforest, plenty of board games/reading material, and a massage therapist that will come to your cabin. The locals are friendly and inclusive, with Friday nights at Martina's bar providing an opportunity to meet and socialize at the market (after which everyone sticks around to dance the night away). Whether you're looking for a fun family vacation, a relaxing break with friends, or a simple respite from the rigors of daily life - look no further: adventure awaits you at Osa Clandestina!

I'm 79 years old and took my two 18 yr. old grandsons to surf and enjoy Their first trip to Costa Rica. I've been going to Costa Rica since 1970 but never to the far south, so it was a new
adventure for all of us.

For 6 days life was perfect....food superb.Fresh everything, cooked simply and ready at just the right time ! Our cabins were comfortable and inviting. We all had massages on the decks of our cabins, the boys' first massage. Evenings spent playing cards or Scrabble ,talking to
each other !!Imagine that.

Early mornings meant walks on the beach, watching for blue Morpho butterflys and Mozart on the radio with my coffee. Days were spent mostly on the beach and in the water. After a quick dip in the freshwater pool, delicious lunch and naps. Time for reading and taking in the tranquillity of this beautiful place. Lovely.
