all in all a very nice place in montezuma.
its location is really cool as it really is in the middle of the rain forest and you can hear the waves from the beach at night.
the hotel staff was really helpful and organized some tours for us.

the room itself was ok. the mattress was a little bit thin and you could feel the spring but everything was relatively clean. the common shower and bathroom were clean and it didn't seem like we had to share them with too many other people.

we had a good time in the hotel Luna Llena and would recommend it to backpackers.

We stayed at Luna Llena for 3 nights and would have liked to have seen the place before we booked it online. It is a great place for people who want to hang out with other travellers and who want a different kind of experience. The room was clean, but I wasn't thrilled to have to walk outside in the rain to go to the bathroom. Simple rooms. I thought it was a little overpriced for what you get, but overall a nice establishment.

Our experience at Luna Llena was mostly positive. The first night we arrived we stayed in a room above the common area which had a lovely deck looking out onto the Pacific. The room itself was simple, but had a desk, oscillating fan on the wall and open closet space with tons of shelves. Unfortunately the next night we were moved to the Honeymoon Suite...which, in the rainy season did not feel luxurious at all. The windows were covered by shutters, which were probably beautiful when opened in the high season (February), but in the rainy season the windows felt more like big, gaping holes (no screens, etc). The other rooms we stayed in (we moved 3 times) either had screens on the windows or were slatted windows. Overall, we had a lovely experience. The proximity to the town was great...just a short walk to the center of town. Personally, I liked the location of the hotel, but I can see how it might feel inconvenient for some.

The common area and kitchen were incredibly charming. The kitchen was the most unique we'd seen in Costa Rica, the walls were covered with beautiful blue tiles, and it was one of the most well-equipped kitchens we'd seen.

Bathrooms were clean, but none of them private. For rooms in the main building, bathrooms were easily accessible. For rooms off the main building, bathrooms were up a little path. I preferred the ceiling cover in the main building (especially in the rainy season...and it rained quite a bit!).

This little hotel was a great choice for our trip! We traveled with some of our family members and needed a clean, nice, but affordable place. We did have shared bathrooms, but it was just down the hall and there were not many other travelers. Our shared balcony with nice seating was a relaxing area to sit and watch the view. Howler monkeys would come near the rooms so you can see them up close, and one little monkey came up to the porch. The staff was great at telling us about the area and booked a nice in-room massage for me. Overall, I didn't much care for Montezuma, but if you're looking for a relaxing quiet place while there, this is it!

Pros: great ambiance, great view of the ocean, nature at its best, outside the busy mainstreet of monteczuma
Cons: a little of a hike up hill of main street; early howling monkeys waiking you up in the morning (this is good/bad base on expectations).

Highlights of this place:

-great views, nice common lounge areas, surrounded by very pretty gardens
- informative, friendly staff
-wildlife can be seen on grounds
- very short walk into town

Why we wouldn't stay there again:

-This place seems to attract a younger, partying crowd. My husband and I aren't exactly over the hill (we're both 32 years old), yet, we felt we were a little old for the nightly social scene at this place. Technically, guests are supposed to quiet down after 10pm, but this doesn't happen. The only person from the hotel who was there to enforce this rule is the security guard, who didn't seem to care less. Even though we mentioned to the receptionist after our first night that the place had been loud, nothing changed. We actually weren't even sleeping in the main lodge area at first, rather, we were down the hill in separate units, which we had hoped would be quieter, but we were still kept awake each night. We were moved to a different room right over the reception lounge area on our last night, and the guests kept us awake with their partying until 4am.

- The beds were REALLY uncomfortable! We were actually moved 3 times while we were there (because we hadn't made a reservation before arriving and were playing it by ear each day), so we slept in 3 different beds, all with the same problem, which was that the mattress was made of foam and caved in in the middle of the bed. It made for some uncomfortable sleeping!

- We had been travelling in Costa Rica for a while and were used to the mosquitos and various other types of bugs in rooms, even so, we were dismayed to find a cockroach in the cabin's bathroom one night.

Okay anyone who says this hotel is not great...obviously does not appreciate anything to do with the forest...and in my mind, is a bit of a snob...Yes this place is no Four Seasons, but when you stay at a place like that...what do you really learn about where you are anyway? This hotel was so great. I was backpacking with my boyfriend, and i will admit it is quite the walk uphill...but really...you have to be pretty lazy to complain. Milly and Chris own this hotel, and they are such great people, ask them anything, and Chris is so laid back and friendly, you could talk to him for quite a while! Costa Rica can be amazing, but it also is high in theft and they have a security guard who is so nice who watches over it at night. When you wake up in the morning and walk out of your room there are monkeys everyone! Because Luna Llena has a ton of fruit trees around it, they are attracted to the area. I spent hours just watching them, i came more close than i did anywhere else in costa rica with them. This hotel is clean, and it has a kitchen and a lounging area with a satellite television. I went all over Costa Rica and stayed in so many places, and this was my favourite! Also a great location to the town!
