“Exceptional wildlife!”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

Did a couple of night tours here. One was fair, but had WAY too many people in it, and guide was only fair. The guide we booked through our hotel, the Hidden Canopy, was phenomenal and my husband and I were the only ones in the group. So much better!

“Cloud Forest”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

This is a must see if you are interested in the ecological system of Costa Rica. And the zipline and suspended bridges are reasonably priced and very safe.

“Great trails, breathtaking views and very helpful staff!”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

The reserve has well maintained trails that minimize impact to the forest. The staff is very helpful and will outline a path for you to take based on your interest. There is a limit of the number of people who can be on the trails at once, so get there early or be prepared to wait a bit.

My friend and I also paid for a guided bird walk with the reserve staff. Our trip leader was Ricardo Guindon. He was amazing! Ricardo has lived and birded in Monteverde his entire life and he shares his experiences while identifying birds along the trail. He is very knowledgeable (and I have high standards for birders) and very attentive to his group. I would recommend taking a walk with Ricardo to anyone interested in the birds and natural history of Monteverde!

“Quetzal, Elf Forest, Monkeys, TREES, Kinkajou”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

This was our second visit, and we elected to hire a guide which was great. The guides take everyone to the falls which are lovely, but his trained eye caught alot more that we would have seen without him. On that portion of the trip, we might have seen one Quetzal, but we saw 3 thanks to his sharp eyes. He also answered our innumerable questions about plants, animals. We then took a lunch break and headed to the elven forest on the continental divide. The howling winds limit the trees to dwarf height. We saw our second male Quetzal on that hike, along with howler monkeys. We departed late, near 5 30, and spotted a kinkajou draining a humming bird feeder.

Having a guide is worthwhile if you want to learn the most about the Reserve.

This is one of the most beautiful and biologically diverse forests in the world. Ask for Oscar to be your guide.
