This was our second visit, and we elected to hire a guide which was great. The guides take everyone to the falls which are lovely, but his trained eye caught alot more that we would have seen without him. On that portion of the trip, we might have seen one Quetzal, but we saw 3 thanks to his sharp eyes. He also answered our innumerable questions about plants, animals. We then took a lunch break and headed to the elven forest on the continental divide. The howling winds limit the trees to dwarf height. We saw our second male Quetzal on that hike, along with howler monkeys. We departed late, near 5 30, and spotted a kinkajou draining a humming bird feeder.
Having a guide is worthwhile if you want to learn the most about the Reserve.
