We saw a few birds on this trip -- though we did see a quetzal. My husband and I did two solo afternoon hikes and took our kids and his mom with one on a guided hike in the morning. Morning hiking was so crowded (Easter week) that we only saw a few things -- did see a quetzal though. We went with the guide from the preserve. You can make a reservation at afternoon prior at the desk. I loved the solo hikes my husband and I did in Monteverde. We liked the hike to the "mirador" to look at the continental divide. I would definitely take the kids to Curi Cancha reserve -- less crowded, we saw more there -- but do stop at Monteverde.
