“Absolutely Fabulous!”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

This is a wonderful place - the rooms are great (we had a suite but all the rooms are good), the surroundings are beautiful, the beach is stunning and the people who work there are second to none. There is a special ambience at Arenas Del Mar, not sure if its how much they care for their beautiful evironment or if it is the dedication and care that all the team show when going about their work. Everyone is friendly, helpful and smiling and nothing is too much trouble. The location is ideal for a good walk along the beach in the early morning, all the way down to Manual Antonio village and the national Park. The village has a couple of nice restaurants, good for a break from the sun at lunchtime. The (Dragonfly?) Thai was lovely and there are a few shops selling the usual beach dresses and sunglasses; try a fresh coconut from one of the vendors at the Manual Antonio end of the beach.
Don't waste the taxi fare for a journey into Quepos, it's the nearest town but what a dump!
We stayed 5 nights at Arenas Del Mar and it just wasn't enough. Watch the waiters dance on the salsa lesson evening - those guys can really move!!
Thanks to all the team for a fabulous holiday.

Room Tip: Higher rooms in blocks 1,2,3 will not have pool noise from below but still have a great view.

I stayed at Arenas del Mar in May 2012 and again this past April and I cannot describe enough how much I love this hotel! It's something you really need to see for yourself! It is beautiful and there is so much wildlife to see. There is a baby sloth outside the main lobby which I had to visit every day :) We also saw a few monkeys and a lot of lizards! The rooms are nice with very comfy beds and amazing showers. The balconies are great too, love sitting out there and listening to the ocean :). There are two pools and two beaches (one private, one public) and both are beautiful with lots of shade if you want it. If you go to the public beach you can walk all the way along it into the little town of manuel antonio or keep going to the park! The staff here is AMAZING!!! Seriously, I miss them. Everyone is so friendly and they remember you and your room number! Only one issue with the hotel is the dinner options. There is one restaurant open for dinner and it has the same menu daily and the options seem limited. Plus it is pricey. We stayed there for four nights but only ate their the first night. The restaurant for lunch is so awesome with a much bigger menu and larger portions so I'm not sure why dinner lacks so much. Again, this hotel is amazing and I still would go back there a third time but i'd keep going into town for dinner :). Also, there are a lot of hills at the resort but if you can't walk them it is ok because there are tons of golf carts the staff will come pick you up! I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Manuel Antonio!

I really can't imagine staying anyplace else in Manuel Antonio. We had booked an Ocean View Superior Room and were upgraded to a suite upon arrival. Even without the upgrade, I'd still give Arenas del Mar a rave review. The property is truly magnificent and guest rooms were extremely comfortable and immaculate. The staff were consistently friendly, competent, and always willing and eager to do whatever they could to make the guest experience special. My wife and I love spending time on the beach, and Arenas del Mar is somewhat unique in that the hotel basically has its own beach--most of the other hotels in the area do not, requiring gests to use shuttle vans to get to the beach. Furthermore, Arenas del Mar's beachside restaurant serves excellent food (loved all the salads) and extremely reasonably priced drinks. Finally, we had asked the hotel to arrange a private visit to Manuel Antonio Park and all the arrangement were handled perfectly and the guide we had--I believe her name was Anya--was fantastic.

Would definitely return here. There is no other property like this in the area. Our room was stunning (building 2) staff was incredible. So willing to help us spot sloths monkeys etc. I got some incredible photos.
Not 5 stars because the moved my friends family away from us without asking. They thought they were doing him a favor but we really wanted our kids to b close. They could have asked first. Great place though

We were lucky enough to be given a fantastic room with amazing views over the beach and sea. The bathroom was huge as was the balcony with a hot tub. Wildlife including sloths and monkeys on your door step. Beaches close by and not really that far to walk. The accommodation at the far end by the smaller beach would be a bit more of an uphill hot trudge, but golf carts were available to pick you up if you wanted.
Breakfast was table service which avoids the scrum of a buffet, but meant you had much less freedom in choice. Dinner meals were satisfactory, but I would not say outstanding.
We did an early morning bird walk with Ersol (careful with pronunciation!) who was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The night walk with a different guide turned into a bit of a kids trip.
The National Park - "a walk in the woods" - ha! It can be crowded especially in the morning. You do need a guide (Millie was outstanding) if you really want to see the fauna/flora - some of the frogs, etc were so hard to see. Lots of sloths and birds. A good beach to have a swim and cool off at.

If you are considering a vacation in the MA area, look no further than this hotel. Not only are the grounds and rooms fabulous, but the service is the best we have experienced anywhere! The entire staff delivers service far exceeding what you typically receive in comparably priced hotels. Also if you are going to MA to experience wildlife, you'll want to arrange a tour via the hotel. We went to the park on our own and then paid for a tour through the hotel. We saw many, many more animals with the guide because they know were to look. It is definitely worth the cost. Ersel Aguilar was our guide and he is amazing: very knowledgeable and entertaining. So while the price of the tours may seem high, it is actually a great value vs walking around on your own. If we ever return, and hopefully we will, this is the only place I would consider staying.

Perfect location, excellent food, wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. Our family of 5 spent a week there this April and I couldn't say enough great things about Arenas Del Mar. Thank you Ariel, Alexander, Angel, Yahaira, Marcela, Oscar, William, etc. for making our stay so enjoyable. Hope to see you again soon!

Room Tip: We stayed in building 5 which was perfect spot half-way between the main pool/lobby area and Playita...
