My husband and I just returned on January 21, 2014 from the Paradise on Earth. This resort was outstanding. The customer service was the best that we have ever experienced in our 17 yrs of travel. The customer service including free ipads to use during your stay (definitely a surprise) with free wi-fi and internet access. We forgot our camara at home, so the resort loaned us a camara for the entire week, then burned a disk on the last night of our stay (free). We also rented a car and needed a flash night to park at night time. We were walking from our car to the main pick up area and was eaten alive by large red ants. They immediately gave use ice for our feet and legs, then loaned us a flash light for the remaining of our stay to avoid the ants. They even offered to park our rental car if needed to avoid walking across the dirt parking lot. We went on a tour of the rain forest and did not bring binoculars and to our surprise, once again, the resort loaned us some binoculors for the week.
The resort was quiet, very few children, peaceful and relaxing. No vendors on the beach trying to sell any products. The beach was private and within walking distance for hotel guest only. Local residents could share the beach, but they seemed to give us the privacy that we were seeking. They provided towels and chairs on the beach with a monitor for watching private items.
We had a small room that had all the basic amenities including a balcony with outside fridge, ceiling fan, and wet bar. We spent hours on the balcony enjoying the breeze, sound of the ocean, and peace and quiet.
The breakfast was included with the fee for the resort, this applied to everybody. Every morning we had a fruit of the day, pastry, juice and choice of a breakfast. It was delicious. We did not eat dinner or lunch at the resort since we had a car, but my husband did order a burger for room service and he was satisfied.
House keeping was great. Our room stayed clean all the time. We would leave for a few hours, then return to a clean room everytime. Always had fresh towels and linen without asking. Housekeeping was non-intrusive, polite, kind and respectful of personal items.
Here are some warning, not pertaining to resort but to Costa Rica in general. There is an exit tax of $29 per person that has to be paid at the airport before checking into airline. This was a surprise since no one mention this requirement upon entering the country. Also be careful of the rental car companies. We rented our vehicle online through Budget. Decline the insurance since our credit card gave us full coverage. My husband is military so we have USAA auto insurance and credit card, and they provide international coverage for all their soldiers. I even called to make sure we had the correct coverage before declining the insurance at budget. When we got our car at budget, we were told that we had to buy the "special liability insurance" for an additional $16 per day. If we did not buy the insurance then they would place a $3000.00 hold on our credit card. After arguing for over 1 hour we bought the insurance. I contacted the credit card company for a full refund of the additional charges.
Would not purchase room directly from resort. We got a better deal at Bookit.com, so shop around for good deals. Definitley rent a car, since not much to do in town. We did go on the Canopy which including zip lining with Canopy Safari. It was the most fun I have had in a long time on an exercusion. Toured the Manual Antonio Rainforest National Park which was a lot of walking but well worth it. The guide was great.
Over all the vacation was wonderful. We had seen sloth, tree monkeys, bats, white frogs, ect. This trip was most definitely worth it. We are planning to return next year to the same resort for peace and relaxation.
I promised to mention some staff members names: Elaine, Arial, William, Excel.
