“Great Place, Beautiful Views, Awesome Wildlife”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2008

We just returned from Manuel Antonio (June 30 - July 7) and loved Buena Vista Villas. Our kids loved the monkeys coming through the property every day. They were right outside of our villa and would jump on the roof as they moved through. The view of the Pacific was incredible and to relax on the balcony and look at the ocean is what it's all about. The concierge service was awesome and Jorge made some great drinks. It is a very hilly propery but we felt that we at least received some exercise as we walked to the restaurant and the beach. We would walk to the beach (downhill) and take the shuttle back. We were there during Costa Rica's low season and it did rain every day but not enough that it usually stopped us from our activities. The rain would come mostly late afternoon and into the evening.

A great place to vacation!!

We stayed in a one-bedroom villa and our kids and their daughter stayed in a two bedroom villa for four wonderful days. Workmanship in the villas is amazing. Views are incredible. The place teemed with wildlife - iguanas, monkeys, sloths. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The little cafe at the top does nice breakfasts and tasty fresh food the rest of the day. We intend to go back. This beats anything we have done in the Caribbean, including Peter Island, in terms of things to do, things to see and opportunities for first class relaxing.

We spent last week in Manuel Antonio in a two bedroom casa and were so sad to leave! My husband and I agree that this was the best place we have ever vacationed. Our four kids (3 teens and a nine year old) found plenty to do at Buena Vista Villas. They would spend most of the day on the private beach, then head to one of the three pool areas, then head to the casa to enjoy sitting in the hot tub on our second story porch. We stayed in Casa #414 and had a perfect view of the ocean. We did not get any monkeys to come to our porch, but they were not far from us. The monkeys like to come to the restaurant area in the morning and afternoons to beg for food.

There is a shuttle that will take you to the beach area, that shows up as soon as you call. You can walk to and from the beach, but it is a hard very steep walk up. My son and I stayed late at the beach one night (past shuttle time) and had to walk back. I had to stop several times to catch my breath and swore I'd never do it again!

The beach area is small, but very nice. Since it is private, there were never more than twelve people there at a time (including my family of six). David will provide you with boggie boards, kayaks, goggles, sand toys, snorkling equipment, chairs and towels for free. You can also get food and drinks on the beach.
There is a coral and rock area not far from the beach that offers a great snorkling adventure. David will give you a kayak and point you in the right direction. It takes only about 10 minutes to get there and is well worth it. Take along some crackers to feed the fish. My son loved it!!!

If you like to hunt for shells, stay late as low tide starts in the late afternoon, early evening and then you can look near all the rocks for great finds. Just before dark, hundreds of hermit crabs come out and are so fun to watch.

My girls were swimming in the cove and saw a whale's fin and tail less than 400 feet away and while it freaked them out, I thought it was awesome! David said you can often see whales in the area in the late afternoon and early morning.

The casa was beautiful and the beds were so comfy!!!! There were 2 1/2 baths, so no one ever had to wait. The outdoor showers with a rain options were incredible!

I cannot say enough about this property! We hope to go back in a few years.

We just stayed at Buena Vista Villas from June 24-28. Our group included my husband and I, our 2 kids ages 15 and 9, and my parents. We all agreed that Buena Vista was fantastic and exceeded our expectations!

The Grounds: The grounds and view from the rooms really are stunning and pictures don't do them justice. The shuttle was always running and pretty prompt. It takes a little more time to be picked up at the beach for some reason.

The Beach: Gorgeous and so relaxing! The scenery, trees around the beach is something out of a movie set! The kids had a blast on the boogie boards. There are also plenty of kayaks. We had lunch on the beach one day and it was very good and resonably priced. If you want shade under trees or an umbrella, get there by 10am to be safe. David was there to help get all your chairs and such and was very friendly. One afternoon my dad and I watched a capuchin monkey peel a coconut and eat the insides in a tree about 5 ft from us! The beach is so convenient and was definately a selling point on the hotel for us!

The Rooms: We stayed in a 2 story villa. They were really beautiful! The view from the balconies are amazing. Squirrel and capuchin monkeys would visit everyday and entertain us. In the morning they came around 6:30 or 7:00. We saw them in the afternoon a couple of times around 4:00.

The Service: The service was out of this world! Everyone was so friendly ( we found that be true of Costa Ricans in general) and helpful. Fernando and Jorge are the concierges for the villas and were both great!

Restaurants: We had our best meal at Mar Luna- wonderful seafood! The shuttle even brought us for free. I think if they aren't tied up driving on the property they will bring you to places close by. La Cantina was pretty good- a fun atmosphere and seemed to be the most crowded. One night we stopped at La Mariposa for a drink to watch the sunset- the view was AMAZING! The mojito was really yummy too. One night we went into Quepos before dinner and shopped a little, then ate at Kukula- about half a mile from El Gran Escape. It is VERY casual, but had delicious seafood. Our other favorite meal was at Claro Que Si- at Si Como No resort. It was more fancy, had great food, and a guy playing guitar who was out of this world. The service was great too.

Excursions: One day we did a guided tour of Manuel A National Park with Juan Brenes- I'm sure you've read about him on Trip Advisor! He really is a great guy!!! He knows so much about the wildlife, and he will take awesome pics with your camera through his scope. The beaches there are insanely gorgeous!!!
Another day me, my husband, and son went horseback riding at Brisas Del Nara. Juan booked it for us. We did the half day tour. We were picked up around 7:45 and got back at 1:30. They fed us breakfast and lunch. The horses were in good condition and were sweet and well behaved. We stopped at a pretty creek/ swimming hole on the tour. The full day goes all the way to the waterfall and you get back at 4:30 I think.

I can't say enough wonderful things about Buena Vista Villas- you will not be dissapointed if you stay here. I'm ready to go back!

Our family (kids 9 & 14) spent six wonderful days in a one bedroom villa. The place was very well kept and had a fabulous view. Nearly every morning we had a parade of monkeys come to our balcony. On the property we also saw, sloths, all kinds of birds, iguanas, etc.

While the property is hilly, as advertised, the staff is very accomodating about shuttling you around. Since we wanted to try a number of local restaurants, we only ate breakfast at the hotel. The complimentary breakfast is quite good but did get a bit stale after 3-4 days. So, a couple days we walked across the street to Cafe Milagro (yummy coffee, breakfast burritos and banana pancakes),

The private beach is very nice....lots of chairs, boogie boards, mask / fins & kayaks (my kids did not want to get out of the ocean). Though we did not eat lunch at the beach, the drinks were not extremely expensive. As for location, it has a grocery and several restaurants within walking distance. A cab ride into Quepos is $5.00 (US) and only $4.00 to Manuel Antonio National Park.

Our family gives BVV two big thumbs up!

Buena Vista Villas & Casas at Tulemar is such an amazing place to stay. I highly recommend it. The views take your breath away, the private beach is wonderful and the trails are so much fun to walk on. The beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept in, the showers are great . The deck was amazing with plenty of chairs and a lovely hammock. The monkeys, sloths, iguanas are so much fun to walk around and see, esp the monkeys on the roofs and decks early in the morning. The breakfast was very good, loved the rice and beans, as well as the fresh fruit and juice, egg station, etc. Fernando, our concierge was great. He was so helpful with everything. He did a great job. Every single person on staff at Buena Vista and Tulemar were so very nice and polite and wonderful. I could go on and on and on about how great this place was. I will definitely be back. I fell in love with Costa Rica and Buena Vista Villas and was very sad to leave.

We stayed 3 nights in a one bedroom villa at the end of March. Our villa was wonderful. The beds were very comfortable and the view from our balcony was spectacular. We were visited by monkeys daily (a real treat for our daughters!) There was also a great buffet breakfast each day. We never cooked in our kitchen because groceries were a little tricky to find, but we did enjoy having the refrigerator for snacks.

The highlight of the resort for us was the amazing beach. Our concierge shuttled us down and picked us up each day. (The resort is on a very steep hill). There were no more than 10 other people on the beach while we were there. The beach staff quickly got us lounge chairs and umbrellas and also got boogie boards and kayaks for us for no charge. The beach was beautiful with small waves and warm water. Lots of hermit crabs and iguanas, too.

My only complaints would be 1) there were geckos under the bamboo in our ceiling and they chirped throughout the night--just part of sleeping in the jungle, though 2) our personal concierge seemed overworked, but was helpful most of the time. Overall a great stay.
