Location on top a hill overlooking lush green trees with the Pacific in the background is just a pretty spot for a 5 star resort. The service, friendliness and willingness of staff to help with every little detail really made you feel like royalty, at least for a week. The pool area with multiple pools, waterfalls plus with a cold drink in hand, sitting in the pool just taking in the brilliant view/sunset really sums up what vacation is all about.

This truly was an amazing hotel experience. The best treatment we've ever had...attentive to everything we needed in such positive and friendly ways. Room was clean and well designed. Transportation provided for anywhere we wanted to go, anytime we needed it. Great complimentary breakfast and spa treatment! My wife is gluten free and it was never a problem. Views are awesome, and toucans outside the wine room window..beautiful birds! Would definitely stay there again!

Big surprise for me Gaia hotel!
The hotel itself so not surprise me. Good to average, a little overpriced, but when it goes to service, its amazing! Surprise me how many people knew my name and deliver a personal service, from the assistance that Kimberly gavd me in the booking until the check out, perfect service.

Fail only with my SUP paddle acivity that was not book as I required and some restaurant suggestions.

Our recent guest applauds us on our service and we thank them for that very kind remark.

Indeed, from the moment a reservation is made to the time our guest leaves our property, service is of the utmost importance. Knowing a guest by name may be considered difficult at times but we insure that once a guest comes to our property, that little touch is the beginning of the overall Gaia experience.

Thank you for sharing with others your wonderful Gaia experience.

Before choosing a destination/resort I always consult Trip Advisor. When looking for a place to stay in Costa Rica, I was overwhelmed by the tremendously positive reviews of Gaia. The resort, the owners, the staff, the rooms, the pool, the drinks, the food, the bedding, the balconies, the privacy, the fact that they have thought of everything all lives up to the reviews and then some. And, if you come up with anything that you need it is no problem at all and it miraculously appears.
We were in Room 222, which was a total gift- when you see pictures of the resort, its the room that is featured in the side view of the pool. I did not see the inside of any other room but I heard they were each as spectacular. There are only 20 rooms. Our room had a private balcony with 2 lounge chairs-facing a jungle valley with a U shaped break in the valley that glimpsed the Pacific Ocean. The room had a living area, complete with a small refrigerator, the bedroom had a King- sized ridiculously comfortable bed (Boris one of the owners told me that he made that one of the priorities) The bathroom is what you would expect in A luxury resort all granite, stone, very cool faucets and shower head, smelling amazing, only this one had a giant window with a screen that looked over that same jungle valley and on to the ocean- all for your viewing pleasure while showering! The bedding and the towels were equally top notch. If you've ever been to Auberge du Soleil in Napa- the room reminded me of a Costa Rican version of staying there.
On to the people- much has been mentioned in the reviews about the staff and owners- but, as great as the room is, the Owners and staff make the resort. Alex from the resort had picked us up at the airport he was full of information about Costa Rica and very friendly. Then, we were greeted at the entrance by David, (we also met Boris later in the stay) another owner is Thomas but he was not at the resort at the time. The owners check in with you frequently and briefly to make sure that you are having a nice stay and have everything you need. Fabio, Alexander and Sandy in the office were not only friendly but very knowledgeable about what to do and when and in a blink made calls and arrange every excursion we wanted. At La Luna the restaurant- which by the way was just incredible with many choices and such flavorful foods, Aldo, Jorge, Glenn, Mario, John and Jose were very attentive and first class in service. Then there is Joshua the bartender at the pool, great drinks, friendly fast service, nothing too much trouble but if you've read any other review everyone talks about Diego- the bartender at La Luna- great drinks- creates new ones all the time, will make anything, he's funny, friendly and sweet! Can't forget Christian the driver who expertly takes the guests up and down the resort via golf cart. Our package included $500. in spa credits- Kris and Jesus were unbelievable- best facial and best two massages (deep tissue and chocolate) I have ever had! Dennis Reyes gave us an hour long tour of the Reserve at Gaia which encompasses 12 of the 14 acres of the resort, we then went with him to tour Manuel Antonio Park, if you have a cell phone with a camera- Dennis has a very cool way of finding animals, insects, monkeys with his telescope that he brings along then puts your camera up to it an viola- very cool pictures! We did the 5 hour White Water rafting trip - it was a blast- the resort hooked us up with the tour company. We had planned to Zip Line but there was a little protest in the road in the town and no tour companies could take their groups to their destinations (it only lasted a day). Note to self if Zip Lining is important- do it at the beginning of your stay.
La Luna is the resort restaurant. It serves the free breakfast where the choices range from Eggs Benedict to yogurt with Granola to almond coated Croissant french toast just to name a few. The Happy hour is Tapas style offering spring rolls, rare tuna, Ceviche, and other Costa Rican specialties all for 2- 3 dollars. The dinner menu offers many choices, everything we had was very delicious and perfectly prepared. The wine selection is pretty good and very modestly priced.
Overall, this is a beautiful private romantic place with wonderful people working there (who stay there). I would recommend it without hesitation! I would definitely return!

Room Tip: It appears that there are only great rooms- though we had Room 222 and it was fantastic!

If you want to travel to Costa Rica and stay in a romantic top-notch resort with close access to much of the eco-tourism this beautiful country has to offer, Gaia Hotel & Reserve in Quepos should be your NUMBER ONE choice. As soon as we arrived and throughout our five-day stay, we were showered with impeccable service. In fact, we could tell from the moment we were picked up at the airport by Alex to be driven to the resort that were in for a treat. Our room (#222 - probably having the best view of the 20 rooms at the resort - imagine a mountaintop overlooking a surrounding jungle valley with the visible waters of the Pacific close nearby) was ridiculous - from the roof-top HUGE sunning deck to the modern Italian-styled bathroom to the unbelievably comfortable king-sized bed. Every day began with a delicious breakfast at La Luna Restaurant (excellent restaurant on the property - another amazing view and probably the best food in Quepos - try the frittata or eggs Benedict). We would then travel to nearby eco-adventures (hiking, white-water rafting, zip-lining) where ALL the details were handled for us by the Gaia front staff (Fabio, Alexander and Sandy) with Christian providing the transportation to and from the front gate. All fun and no worries! Hanging out at the two-level terraced pool (another killer view) sipping margaritas prepared by Joshua was a great way to spend the late afternoon before returning to La Luna for Happy Hour and dinner. The Happy Hour drinks prepared by Diego (especially the pineapple-jalapeno margarita and mojito) and the tapas from the kitchen were as good as you can imagine. Dinner was amazing each and every night (check out the tuna, mahi mahi and shellfish dishes) and the service (waiters Aldo, Jorge, Glen, Mario, John and Jose) was stellar. We even got the chance to meet and mingle with two of the three owners of Gaia (David and Boris - great guys who really care about the experience of their guests). The live music provided by the two of the Gipsy Kings (just kidding but the acoustic guitarist could hold his own against anyone) was another treat we looked forward to every evening. The deep tissue massages (masseuses Chris and Jesus) we received at the resort spa were without question two of the best we have ever experienced. We can't wait to go back!

When it comes to a luxury hotel it's all about the details that makes the difference between good and great. Gaia nails all the details that makes this such a great hotel. From the moment I arrived I was impressed when one of the the owners, David Fleming, met us at the entrance of the hotel. This was not unique to us, but something they do to most guests to show they value them and want them to have the best stay possible. Other details I really appreciated were a cold towel and drink waiting for me upon arrival, a complimentary 20 minute massage that was excellent, a free hour long tour of their beautiful reserve, umbrellas every where you look to ensure you're not caught in the rain and the included breakfast which was fantastic. This wasn't some cheap buffet, it was a meal selection off the menu that was delicious and a great variety of options.

I stayed in a suite which was clean, roomy and very comfortable. They use high quality bedding for a restful sleep, a private coverd patio to relax while enjoying the amazing views and a very spacious and luxurious bathroom, which included a huge jacuzzi tub. What I really appreciatd was when they brought an actual quality mattress my guest, instead of having them stay on a regular uncomfortable pull-out couch.

Gaia isn't just a great choice in Manuel Antonio, it's the only choice if you want a guaranteed amazing hotel experience. Between the white faced monkeys, sloth and toucans outside my door, I hardly saw the need to go else where to see animals. Thank you David Fleming and your partners for doing such an excellent job with creating this bit of paradise in Manuel Antonio. I hope to return in the near future!

Room Tip: You're going to a rainforest so don't shy away from staying here during the low/rainy season...

I am willing to say here that our recent guests' review of our hotel is truly humbling to the owners and the entire staff.

We thank you so much first of all for choosing Gaia Hotel & Reserve and counting us among your greatest experiences.

We said from the beginning when establishing Gaia during the building phase in 2005/2006 that we would only create Gaia if we could bring 5 star elegance and luxury to the Manuel Antonio area. But this had to be combined with a no attitude atmosphere. That is, Barefoot Luxury in the Rainforest.

You came to experience luxury and came away with that including the best service and friendly attitude imaginable.

Thank you for sharing the MAGIC that is created everyday at Gaia........Barefoot luxury....flip-flops very welcome.

Costa rica prides itself on being eco-friendly. Unfortunately many eco-friendly hotels lack luxury. Gaia is the exception to that rule. We were greeted by reception and taken to a beautiful suite. The room had a separate bedroom, living room and huge jacuzzi in the bathroom. The food here is absolutely amazing. The dining area overlooks the forests of costa rica. Beautiful and romantic. Every couple was honeymooning except us. Enough said.

Our recent guests are so wonderful to write such a fantastic review of our Gaia Hotel & Reserve.

We do indeed pride ourselves in being very aware of our natural surroundings and take the necessary steps to ensure that the nature we enjoy all around us is preserved for generations to come.
We not only do it for our hotel but instruct our local staff to translate that into their own surroundings where they live. In our opinion being sustainable is not a choice any more, it is an obligation.

This, combined with 5 star luxury and romance, makes Gaia the perfect vacation stop for so many adults.

Thank you for sharing your experience with other readers on this TripAdvisor forum.
