“Cute hotel, friendly and helpful staff”
Reviewed January 10, 2012

We spent several days at Cabinas Espadilla over New Year’s Eve. It has a basic layout but the bougainvillea, lush greenery, arches, fountain, pool, and terra cotta roof give it that Central American charm. The room was fine and even had a decent sized refrigerator. The shower wasn’t great but it was functional. Unfortunately, the windows are slotted, which means they don’t close with a seal. This means you hear what’s happening outside your room. In our case, our first few nights were across the street from a backpackers’ bar, which meant loud music all day. Much to our relief, it ended about 10 or 10:30 - Manuel Antonio is not a late-night town. It wasn’t a big deal, but it would have been nice to hear birds and nothing else. Later in the week, we changed rooms and upgraded to a kitchenette. It really wasn’t worth the extra money since the kitchen equipment was so old I was afraid to touch it. But having a kitchen sink and counter was useful. Unfortunately, that room was the corner of three walkways, which meant lots of neighbor noise as people walked to and from their rooms.

The hotel location is great. It’s tucked away behind the beach and beachfront craziness, which means we could walk to everything, including the beach and National Park, but could come back to our little oasis when the chaos got too much.

The staff was so helpful. They really made a difference. We spent hours in the office trying to arrange tours (it was high season and with a baby, we had lots of restrictions). Both the young man and the woman spent lots of time calling multiple tour companies, asking questions and trying to get me onto tours. The woman even loaned me bus money to get somewhere since I only had a $20! I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 16 is near the street...and the backpackers' bar.

Michelle thanks for your comment!

Although the noise from our neighbor (backpackers place) is beyond our control. We talked with their manager and the noise of the place is much smaller. Furthermore we are working in each of the windows, to achieve them completely sealed. Thank you very much for doing so noticed.

Fortunately Espadilla Cabins was your oasis during your stay in new year' s eve, we are pleased that our facility has found a peaceful, safe environment for you and your family.

We always try to be alert to serve our customers in the best way!
Thanks and greetings from Espadilla-Manuel Antonio!

Unfortunately, we were in a bind to find a place and wound up here. We paid more than any other place in Costa Rica for a tiny, dilapidated room that smelled like mildew, had windows that wouldn't shut, and was very loud with sounds of noisy neighbors coming through the walls. The bed was very uncomfortable on top of it all.

The grounds are attractive and the pool, breakfast, and staff were nice. It is also very well located being near the beach and park. If you've got a car, don't stay here, as there are much nicer and cheaper places on the hill further from the park.

The cabinas are a short walk from the national park entrances, beaches and town. Yefe was amazingly helpful at making sure we had everything we needed. Great rooms, pool, garden. Would have liked to have stayed longer!

We ended up at Cabinas Espadilla when the hotel we had planned to stay at ended up booked and referred us to their neighbor. Cabinas Espadilla turned out to be pretty great, just a short walk from Manuel Antonio National Park and an even shorter walk to the public beach. The room was clean and comfortable and the grounds were nicely manicured. We stayed in Room-lucky-number-13, which was right across from the pool and a beautiful old tree. The pool was very nice to take a dip in now and then. Also, the on-site parking lot seemed very secure and we had no trouble. Breakfast was served at a partner restaurant a few meters down the street and was excellent.

The rate was perhaps a little high for low season, but, then again, it's Manuel Antonio and paying the tourist premium is a bit expected. I'd definitely stay at Cabinas Espadilla gain and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Location, location, location. We loved Cabinas Espadilla because it is as close as you can be to Manuel Antonio Park without being on the main drag where all the noise and craziness is. It has a great pool, as does its companion hotel a few hundred feet away. For breakfast, you get this amazing huge buffet breakfast with an omelette chef and all. The cabin has a full kitchenette so you can cook your own meals or store your own cold drinks. It is absolutely perfect for families and very clean and comfortable. Hot water and cold AC make it just about the best one could ask for in this price bracket.

We had to switch hotels because the one we were at first was booked the rest of the week so we walked down a little ways to this one and it was a great deal so we decided to stay the rest of the week here.
We were in the cabana's not the hotel and there seemed to be a pretty distinct separation in how the staff was at one from the other. The staff at the cabanas were great. Very helpful and let us use the phone to call another hotel and helped out with any questions we had, the staff at the hotel part wanted to charge for everything and they weren't too personable. Very different then the rest of the Costa Rican's we met during the week. They charged for the computer (even if it was just a minute) , the phone for local hotel calls, for an extra towel if you needed one for your hair, charge for a beach towel if you needed one. The room was clean but the shower never got any hot water and the doors wouldn't close right. Also the water didn't drain well and there was a pool by your feet.
The location is great. Just a path to the beach and there is a great backpackers hotel next door with the coldest and cheapest beer in town. The pool is nice, could be a bit cooler, but overall a decent hotel. It could be a great hotel with the right owner but until then, just decent. They did have an excellent breakfast though with just about everything you would want whether it be traditional Costa Rican or American.

Maybe I'm biased because the place we stayed at before this was disgusting but these cabinas were lovely. The room was clean and spacious, we even had a small kitchenette area in our room. Fresh towels each day and air conditioning if you need it.

The reception staff were friendly and informative. The breakfast that's included is taken at their sister hotel just across the road and this was great.

The location is excellent as it's just a couple of minutes walk from the public beach and other bars and restaurants and about five minutes walk to the entrance to Manuel Antonio National Park.

There is free wi-fi at the hotel. A small but clean pool to relax by. Definitely recommend this as a place to stay for people on a medium budget.
