“Stolen Property”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

The view was great. The staff was alright but there are better places to stay for less money. The great view is everywhere in the area. My fiancé and I stayed with another couple and everyone was missing items after we left. Both Makeup and clothing were stolen from all of us. It's a nice place but not worth what we payed for it. I wasn't expecting a place like this to have petty theft

Dear Sarah N,
We understand your frustration in not finding your missing items.
However we can assure you that NOBODY on our staff have stolen your, or anyone's else items. Our staff have been with us for a long time (some for more than 7 years), and we can't even think of a theft. New staff always work with senior staff, and never left alone.
However if you think differently, please feel free to contact me, in order to provide more info about this issue.

Thank you,

We came here for our honeymoon and enjoyed our experience overall. There are a lot of staff working in this small hotel so there is always someone around to help when needed. The staff booked tours for us and suggested great places to eat. The room was very spacious with a huge balcony with nice patio furniture. We saw monkeys from our balcony every day! This is a great location for viewing wildlife. The beach is about a 10 minute walk down the hill and there are many others within a short driving distance.

The weird parts:
1. The bathroom is basically open to the rest of the room. There are short swinging doors separating the toilet from everything else, but it made it seem like the honeymoon was over before it even began! I'm surprised more reviewers didn't mention this so maybe it's just in some of the rooms. (We were in 107.)

2. On the day we checked out we explained that we were going to the beach and would come back later to pick up our bags. The staff assured us that we would be able to use a shower when we returned. To our surprise, the "shower" was a spigot in the parking lot! We were annoyed to say the least since we assumed it would at least have a wall or some privacy, but no.

3. Their website specifically states they have a "private beach" but this does not exist. The staff sent us to the nearest beach which is about a 10-minute walk away from the hotel. It's a nice enough beach but it is open to the public and was pretty busy when we visited! Not really a huge problem but we didn't appreciate the misrepresentation from the hotel website.

Although most things were great we would not return to this particular hotel in the future. Manuel Antonio is full of places to stay so we'll try a different place next time!

Dear Daisy21988,
Thank you for taking some of your time to write this review.
As a small hotel, check outs must be on time. However we always provide free and safe luggage storage, a shower and a clean and private place to change, for those clients that will leave the hotel late. We apologize if there has been some kind of mis-communication between you and our staff.
Our peculiar hotel and room design, is what make us different. Most of our reviewers find our rooms amazing, but some doesn't. But what all our customers agree on is the cleanliness of the rooms. The private beach does exist, and it's just below the hotel, and there are only two accesses to it: from the hotel and from the sea.
Again we think there have been some kind of mis-communication and will have a deeper look into this matter.

Thank you again,
Issimo Suites Boutique Hotel Staff

We spent 2 wonderful nights at this hotel. The staff was friendly, the room clean, the food excellent and reasonably priced (as guests at the hotel we received a 30% discount). Our room (101) had two walls of windows overlooking the Pacific and rainforest ~ it was breathtakingly beautiful. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: To get to our room (101) we had to climb 52 steps but it was well worth it. The panoramic view was...

Nice hotel, staff is friendly and helpful. Hotel is small so staff get to the know their guests personally. The hotel is for couples and the staff made an effort for a romantic experience. Everything was clean and the hotel felt safe. Convenient location for playa Biesanz and not too far from the playita. Our room had a view of the trees and a little bit of the sunset. The towel origami was interesting, not sure if it was a pair of slugs or swans. Only negative is you cannot flush tissue paper in the toilet, same as many central american hotels. We booked several day trips though the hotel and had no problems. Breakfast was great. My wife enjoyed chocolate cake for breakfast. A few mornings we saw monkeys around the patio. We often saw sloths in the trees near the hotel.

Room Tip: Lower room at back of hotel was quiet but does not have full ocean view.

My husband and I just spent 4 days in MA and loved it. Issimo suites is in a great location. Close to 2 beaches, which we walked to. Get ready for some hills, however. The walks are a little bit of a hike. Staff was very nice. Rooms were nice with large windows and a balcony. Bathrooms could use a little help, a bigger and higher mirror would be nice for us taller folks. The environment was amazing! We saw a toucan, sloth, ant eater, capuchin monkeys, and howler monkeys all around our hotel. We also had some unwelcomed house guests. One night a scorpion went dashing between my husband and I in our bed!! That quickly saw the underside of my flip flop. Then, the night before we left, another scorpion was climbing along the wall heading straight toward my suitcase. We called management to come a take care of that one. Now, we understand we are in the rainforest and scorpions seem to be a problem in other hotels too, but 2 scorpions on 2 different nights... That was a little much for me.

Dear Agallup,
Thank you for writing such nice review, despite your experience with the critters.
We know that we are in the rainforest, and we are aware of its cons; like dealing with bugs, spiders, scorpions, ants etc. We, as every hotel in the area, are doing our very best to keep out these little unwanted animals, but it's an impossible task. We are truly sorry about your experience, and we appreciate for understanding the whole situation.
Hopefully, next time you come to relax at our hotel, you will not have any “close encounter” with unwanted citizens of the rainforest.

Thank you again,

We would probably have been more satisfied with the hotel, if we would have stayed in another room. Our room was located downstairs, and already while descending the stairs you can smell the mold, and it's obvious there's a mold damage.

You could described the design of the room as tacky. If renovated a bit, the hotel could be much more attractive.

Part of the staff was nice, part of them were a bit sour. It must be mentioned, that the security-guy was very sympathetic.

You can find better value for your money.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at Issimo in Mid June of 2013 - our expectations were exceeded both in the service we received, as well as our room. We spent approx $700 US total for 3 nights in the "Penthouse Suite" and although not quite a suite - it was an outstanding room. If you go to the Issimo Suites website, our room ( 106) is the room pictured on their landing page. A corner room with floor to ceiling glass overlooking the Pacific from the hillside; it was the nicest view I've ever had from a hotel room - and I do a lot of traveling (Marriott Lifetime Platinum).

The room also had a nice balcony that we enjoyed for viewing sunsets, as well as observing the birds and watching the monkeys as we started the day with our morning coffee. Breakfast was included with our rate, and it was very good. The best Huevos Racheros i've ever had, and that's saying a lot given I spent 10 years living in Texas.

The location is excellent, a twisty mountainside drive to the property and only about 2-3 km to the entrance of Manual Antonio National Park.

We also enjoyed a 45 minute couples massage for only $69 + optional tip. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and this property, location, service and food could not have been better.

Service was outstanding, everyone is always smiling and willing to help. We plan on staying here again on our next visit to Quepos.
