“Great location and big rooms”
Reviewed April 27, 2009

We were 3 families with kids and each family had a a master suite. Very nice, clean place with full kitchen, fridge and stove. This hotel is located few steps from the entry of manuel antonio national park and about 5 min walk from the city beach. One thing to notice (we were confused when research it on the interenet) - the hotel does NOT have a private beach, so you basically walk to a public beach - there's nothing wrong with it, but just in case you have other expectations... Also, they don't have any beach towels, so we basically took a couple of regular towels to the beach. Small breakfast included like fruits, cereal, and coffe, you're asked to pay extra for the eggs.
One thing to note - there's a private detached house right next to this hotel and it's owned by the same people. The house is two bedroom/two bathroom. Our friends were able to rent it for less $$$ than we paid for our rooms. You may pay them cash to get a much better deal.

Inn on the Park is a small, moderately priced, family-friendly hotel with a helpful staff located so close to the entrance of Manuel Antonio that with a strong arm you could throw a baseball and hit the gate.

This is adventageous for several reasons. First, you don't have to worry about taxis or parking. Parking can be a real hassel at Manuel Antonio with all the unofficial "parking attendants" trying to direct you to their area. Second, it makes getting to the park early really easy. Since the park only lets in a certain number of visitors at a time, it is good to get there as early as possible to avoid the waiting list.

The accommodations at Inn on the Park are clean and comfortable but not fancy. We never had hot water while we stayed there, but it was warm enough that we didn't mind the cold showers. We really appreciated the air conditioning at night.

Be forwarned about breakfast. The hotel claims that a "full" breakfast is included, but what they really mean is that fruit, toast and cold cereal are included. You have to pay extra for eggs, or anything cooked.

First night stayed in a room with a queen size bed due to the original hotel we booked with being too disgusting to stay in at all. The room was ok at best had a smell of smoke and was a litledirty. But due to the fact we walked out on a hotel (Villa Pratts) that was absolutely filthy, this seemed like the ritz carlton at the time. The next day we moved up to the master suite (we had a reservation) and this was much better. The short of our stay: The master suite was much better, but could use a better cleaning, the location is excellent, the pool was dirty, and small, the breakfast is very basic, the staff was very nice. If I had to do it all over again I would spend a litle more money and stay somewhere else. If you are looking for basic accomodations you might be ok. This hotel in the US would be a two star hotel.

We stayed 3 nights in a master - large living room w/ pull out bed & single, large kitchen, large bathroom & large master bedroom & we were very comfortable. The people here are very friendly & easy going. The place was spacious, but very basic - no frills. Hot water was not always available, and one afternoon no water was available for a few hours.

The plus of this place is really the location - it's very close to the entrance of Manuel Antonio & the beach. There was a 2 toed sloth hanging out in the trees by the pool & a few Iguanas who considered this place home.

The pool is very warm, tiny & very shallow - not super fun for adults maybe but a blast for my little kids! and safe too. Breakfast is coffee, white bread, juice, fresh fruit & cereal - very basic, but okay.

In summary, if space & location are important to you, this is a great place. If you want luxury & pampering, best look up the hill!

  • Liked — Friendly staff, location, very clean.
  • Disliked — Pool was very small, stuff not working.

we were 5, had a junior suite and a master suite. Very nice, clean place, located few meters from the entry of manuel antonio park and 5 min walk from the beach. You wake up every morning at the souds of birds and monkeys.... Small breakfast included to start the day: fruits, cereals, toasts, cake, milk, coffe. Staff is very friendly and also very helpfull when it comes to recommend what activities to do.

The only minor negative points is the water....difficult to have hot water everytimes in the shower, but the weather is so warm, so you can take a cold shower !

We spent 3 nights at the Inn. It isn't big or fancy, but it is clean and friendly and quiet. The wooden furniture in the rooms were gorgeous. THe bed in our junior suite was so comfortable. The maid service was marvellous, including the beautiful towel art. The proximity to the beach was excellent. (there really aren't any hotels right on the beach in this area). As it was the shortest of walks. We were also very close to the entrance and exist of Manuel Antonio Park. (An other VERY wonderful experience).
The best part about the hotel was the friendly and helpful staff. My son had developed an infection from a nasty spider bite at a lesser hotel, and the desk clerk was SO helpful trying to find us a trustworthy doctor (on DEC 21!). They were invaluably helpful and honest with their recommendations for tours and souveniers as well. it just felt like home.
It isn't fancy.........breakfast is simple toast, fruit, cake and Corn-flakes. But the rooms were wonderfully clean and comfortable and everything worked. the rates were good. Each of the 6 rooms (3 junior suites with Kingsized bed and couch; 3 suites with kitchenettte and separate bedroom) had a balcony on the front that overlooked a park, and a balcony on the back that overlooked the pool. The sound of the howler monkeys in the hills behind the inn were an exciting addition.
It would be a great place for larger groups and families, particularly with the suites.
Furthermore, Manuel Antonio is a better beach for swimmers and families (ie: not the 'surfing crowd') than is the area closer to Jaco.

We stayed 2 nights at Inn on the Park. We had a master and a junior suite which were huge. The rooms were fine, not luxurious, but clean and spacious. The hotel is just a quick 5 minute walk to Playa Espadilla. The breakfast buffet is bare bones: fruit, corn flakes, and white bread, but you can order eggs or pancakes at additional cost. The front desk staff were friendly. The pool is small, but the beach is great so it didn't make a difference. My biggest gripe was that there are no reading lights and the overhead light bulb is quite dim.
