“Excellent Location, Wonderful Hosts!”
Reviewed July 12, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We had such an excellent time at Jungle Creek. Paula and Clark were wonderful and friendly hosts with great tips for travelers, even making contact with tour operators for us from afar and unerring recommendations on best eats in the area. We really enjoyed dips in the pool, watching the monkeys in the trees the whole time. Listening to the birds in the early morning was a treat as well. Easy proximity to local beaches if you have a car, but cabs are available also. While there are several well-appointed units on this property, contact with other guests was always by choice, and privacy was abundant when wanted. I highly recommend Jungle Creek when in the Manuel Antonio / Quepos area!

“Ideal for anyone who loves wildlife and is looking for a memorable rental property experience.”

For anyone who loves wildlife and is looking for a unique rental property experience in sunny Central America look no further than Jungle Creek. It does not take long to figure out why Jungle Creek has been awarded the TripAdvisor Award of Excellence for the past four years. We have outlined our favorite aspects of this vacation rental experience for your consideration.
1. Airport shuttle –. Our shuttle was booked effortlessly through our host, Paula and the driver was just as easy to locate as we walked out of the airport and saw a Jungle Creek sign with our name on it. The cost was $160. US which we divided between the four of us and considered to be very reasonable price for a 3 hour drive. We then went to the nearby Walmart to purchase our groceries for the next 12 days. It is imperative that you have a currency translation chart for such an excursion as these prices do NOT compare to North American prices and we were shocked with prices such as $14. for a pound of bacon, $13. for soy milk and almost $100. for a camping cooler. Needless to say our grocery list quickly became revised yet it is a still great place to purchase groceries if you do not have a vehicle and are looking for a large selection of products. The inexpensive cloth bags that can be purchased at the checkout make great beach bags. We enjoyed the scenic, sunset drive to Manuel Antonio passing the alligator bridge and roadside market where we purchased amazing coconut cookies. Our final stop was for dinner at Marea Baja Restaurante Playa Jaco where we enjoyed a delicious buffet with prices ranging from $4-$7. US depending on your selection choices.
2. Customer Service – We arrived close to 8 pm, pushed the buzzer and were welcomed and assisted with our groceries and bags immediately. From the welcome basket in our room (coffee, nachos, salsa, fresh pineapple, drink covers and information on local tours) to providing us with the opportunity to watch the NFL playoff game in the larger suite between guest bookings and Paula's homemade mango salsa every interaction with both hired staff, the concierge, Os, and the property owners, Paula and Clarke, was friendly, genuine and welcoming.
3. Jungle Creek Hosts – From our first point of contact Paula was attentive and responded quickly to all our requests and ongoing questions. Her ability to create a home away from home for her guests, access discounted local tours (Quepo Canyoning, Manuel Antonio Expeditions – Mangrove Tour), provide recommendations for dining and sightseeing experiences, and updates on the location of our regular onsite wildlife visitors. During our stay I had a very extreme reaction to insect bites and Paula was instrumental in ensuring I pursued medical intervention and followed up regularly with genuine concern regarding my recovery process. Paula has a genuine love for animals and works closely with Kids Saving the Rainforest to ensure that any injured or sick animals receive the necessary medical care and rehabilitation.
4. Accommodations – The Dos Palmas apartment. This two bedroom apartment is a fantastic space to share with another couple providing both common areas and privacy, full kitchen with blender, air conditioning, and a very well designed washroom where guests can have a shower, use the toilet and using the vanity without not even seeing each other. The costs for this reasonable priced site can be further reduced with group bookings or by reserving directly with Jungle Creek.
5. Wildlife – The occasional sloth and toucan combined with regular guests such as lizards, iguanas, various birds, titi and white faced monkey turn this rental property into a jungle oasis. While many guests spend the day exploring the surrounding towns and various tour sites simply spending the day enjoying to the lush landscape, numerous exotic sounds, and a good book in the hammock or poolside chair provide a true tropical vacation experience.
6. Nearby Communities – We watched the pelicans while enjoying a bucket of beer from the patio on Bahia Azul in Quepos. The Friday night market is a lively event with local band music filling the air as one browses the wares of the various vendors from fresh fruits and vegetables to seafood, spices, crafts and novelty items. While in the area I required medical attention and experienced superior, hassle-free, timely medical service from the charming physician, Dr. Kevin Gannon V at the Contro Medico Quepos whereby he addressed concerns quickly, provided support in accessing medications and further testing, and effortlessly accessed our international medical coverage. Manuel Antonio with its beautiful beaches, national park, selection of tours and activities, restaurants, bars and shops is the perfect playground for persons of all ages. We enjoyed the Tuesday night special of 2 for 1 burgers and drinks, the charm and superior service from co-owner, Juan Jose Lopez Obregon the magnificent sunset view at Barba Roja Restaurant and El Lagarto Restaurant provided a wonderful fine dining experience with a fantastic sunset view. Both restaurants provided a discount when we mentioned we were recommended by the owner of Jungle Creek. A 1.5 hour bus ride will take you to Jaco, a lively party and surf town where we enjoyed some shopping, a nutritious break at Frutarica with our Beach Bum and Wild Thing smoothies, a delicious pizza later in the day at Pizza Pata, and walk on the beach.
7. Amenities – There are numerous features that add to the charm of Jungle Creek including a small outdoor pool, well maintained grounds, numerous sun chairs and loungers,a barbeque, hammocks, covered sitting area outside Dos Palmas, cold beer for $2. in community fridge, book lending library, laundry facilities and room safe. The covered dining area is a great place to interact with other guests to share travel stories and recommendations for local restaurants, attractions and tours.
8. Weather – With warm, sunny weather being the norm a winter vacation in Costa Rica is sure to please any traveller seeking refuge from the harsh winter elements of their home country. Unlike much of the Caribbean the evenings remain warm so it is much easier to pack light.
9. Local transportation – A short walk up the main paved road to the Amigos del Rio 10 in ONE Adventure Park sign allow easy bus access to both Quepos on the right side of the road and to Manuel Antonio on the left side of the road for 310 colones per person each way. For those not willing to wait for the next bus taxis pass by often and can be pre-booked as well for door to door service. Let them know you are going to Valle Pura Vida as they may not recognize Jungle Creek. Bring a flashlight if you are walking back from the road in the dark.
10. Scenery – The entire property is lush and visually captivating, with the trees and foliage creating both an element of privacy and the ideal playground for our visiting birds and monkeys. Lounging in the swing hammock or tree hammocks while listening to nature's symphony serve to send you to a truly indescribable place of peace and relaxation.
Considerations – There are a few considerations that may be concerning to some including the motion sensor on the stairs only activating when you are part way down or part way up the stairs so the flashlight must be used for safety reasons, the smaller bedroom air conditioner blowing directly on you occasionally while sleeping, the small bedroom can be quite noisy depending on the neighbours in the upstairs unit, smokers need to go outside the main gate, there is no dishwasher in our unit, toilet paper must be put in the garbage rather than flushed (this is not uncommon for this area), there is only access to the pool area until 10 pm, and television stations are limited. If you are hoping to tan be sure to catch your rays by early afternoon as the pool and patio area become shady after 1 pm.
That being said our stay at Jungle Creek was truly memorable and we would definitely recommend it as a unique rental property experience where the numerous benefits FAR outweigh any minor inconveniences for Jungle Creek is not just a vacation rental but rather an exotic wildlife oasis ideal for rest and relaxation with easy access to white sand beaches and opportunities to embrace the local experience. It does not take long to figure out why Jungle Creek has been awarded the TripAdvisor Award of Excellence for the past four years.

“Perfect spot for active vacation in Manuel Antonio”

Our family with two teenagers and a 3 year old enjoyed a wonderful week in Jungle Creek. Accommodation was comfortable and functional, just right for our family. Paula and Clark were so hospitable and helpful organizing a series of awesome excursions to zip line and visit Manuel Antonio. Their tips on dining in Quepos were perfect and every night we all ate wonderful local fare. Our girls most enjoyed the hike through the jungle down to the waterfall, and then coming home to jump in the pool to cool off. Just a fun place to go and chill out, So certainly recommended by the Barrell family!

“Dos thumbs up for Dos Palmas!”
Reviewed March 15, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

Our stay at Jungle Creek Dos Palmas was terrific!

Dos Palmas has two bedrooms, a small sitting area, one bathroom, and a kitchenette. It is part of an estate with four units with the owners (Paula and Clark) living on site. There is a small pool on site and the grounds are beautiful. We even saw a group of monkeys on the grounds one morning!

Paula was very helpful in booking tours and providing suggestions for activities and (excellent) restaurants. She always seemed to pop up when we needed help with something, and she was extremely responsive prior to our trip when I was developing our trip plan.

We found Dos Palmas to be a good unit for our family of four (2 boys aged 12 & 15). The unit was very clean, and sufficiently spacious for us to spread out. We used the kitchenette for breakfasts but you could cook lunch or dinner there if you don't mind hand washing the dishes. The unit has air conditioning for the bedrooms which was needed for our visit in March!

It's about a 5 minute drive to the town of Quepos, about 10 minutes to the Manuel Antonio public beach and about 15-17 minutes to Manuel Antonio National park. This location worked well for us since we had a car.

My only (small) complaint is that the beds are hard (same as everywhere else we stayed in Costa Rica) and the AC in one of the rooms is a bit weak. These were minor issues, and given our very positive experience at Jungle Creek Dos Palmas, I highly recommend it. Dos (two) thumbs up!
P.S. For a splurge I'd also consider the larger 3 bedroom unit which is reasonably priced.

“Great place to stay in Manuel Antonio area”

My son and I stayed at Jungle Creek for 2 nights and enjoyed every minute of our time there. The apartment was very clean and spacious and had everything we needed. The added benefit of the pool, outside sitting area, and surrounding jungle made it special. Clark and Paula made us feel right at home and invited us to have dinner with them at Barba Roja the first night. Great sunset from the restaurant. Paula was also very helpful in making arrangements for an excellent Mangrove Tours with Edgar of Manuel Antonio Expeditions. Location of Jungle Creek is ideal for both Quepos and Manual Antonio with many restaurants nearby. I highly recommend Jungle Creek for any visit to the area.
