Really a special place accessible to all Manuel Antonio has to offer. Owners Corey and Alicia and their kind and helpful staff made us feel welcome and helped us find everything we needed. The pool is DEEP no real shallow end which was much more fun to swim in than those horrid 3 feet deep jobs.
The most amazing thing about this place is that it is made entirely of rainforest hardwoods - teak and purple heart, perhaps other - and is unbelievably beautiful. This is all wood harvested half a century ago before concerns about depletion...this hotel is either the first or one of in the area.
If you can get rooms 1, 2, 3, 4 you will be delighted. Tower like with a spiral staircase leading to a rooftop deck. The grounds are lush, it is set right into the hill....
Accessible by bus (50 cent ride) to all Manuel Antonio's pleasures.

El Plinio was absolutely fantastic. We stayed in the three story private room with a porch off the second floor and a rooftop patio with swings. We saw bats, birds, frogs, and more. The owners/staff are helpful and friendly - they were able to recommend lots of things to do/restaurants to eat at as well as call taxis when needed. The pool was really great, and the breakfast in the morning was yummy (bread + butter, fresh fruit, and coffee). There's also a GREAT restaurant/bar on site!!

Hostel Plinio is AWESOME! Unlike any other hostel I've stayed at. We stayed in a private two person room which was three stories and very spacious. The rooms were very clean and the property is BEAUTIFUL. Great pool area and an awesome bar/restaurant to hangout at and get cheap and great tasting food and drinks. They switched our room the last night we stayed, and the beds were hard as a rock! Other than that though, the owners are awesome and i would HIGHLY recommend staying here. It's easy to get to Manuel Antonio and easy to get to downtown Quepos.

Hostel Plinio is a grand teak hotel which has recently been converted into a hostel. We stayed in the 6 person dorm which was incredibly spacious, and has 3 floors -- the bathroom and lounge on the bottom, beds and balcony on the 2nd and a great lookout with swings on the 3rd. Everything is well maintained and clean. There is a large swimming pool (with an actual deep end!), and there's a bar right there where you can buy cheap drinks. The owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming.
It's situated on a hillside between Quepos and Manuel Antonio, but walking to either locations would be a bit dangerous because the road is narrow and windy, and traffic is relatively busy. It is, however, right beside a bus stop which comes every 20 minutes during the day.

I always stayed at all-inclusive hotels/resorts with my family on my previous trips to CR. This time I went solo and chose Plinio based on reviews. I wasn't mistaken. Among hostels, it's a resort.

Special thanks to Corey. He was super helpful and even pre-paid for me for my transfer to Monteverde while I was out surfing. I have no idea how he got it for just $37 and I had a private driver. Jeff made incredible raw tuna dish and swordfish soup. Alisha made sure you are secure and comfortable. Great guys and awesome athmosphere. Highly recommended.

I have stayed in hostels before and they were all fine, but El Plinio makes them look really bad. We were six people, so we had an entire dorm, bathroom, and two balconies, all to ourselves for 12$/night/person and breakfast is included. It's also an easily accessible place by taxi or bus (the bus runs every 20 minutes from Quepos to Manuel Antonio's public beach). Alicia and Cory are cool hosts that are always looking out for you and will recommend the good places for either eating or going out. On our second night, we had a small invasion of some sort of flying bug and within half an hour, Cory and Alicia were on it, so by the time we came back from dancing, it was as if there had never been any bug. I definitively recommend it! Also, the bar offers $1 margarita during the day ;)

Hostel Plinio is really a nice place to stay. For never having stayed in a hostel before I was amazed how similar it was to a hotel. Alisha the owner was awesome. She was super friendly and helped us out in so many ways. She knew all of the best places to go. Having the restaurant and pool was a plus too. They had great food and the chiefs and waiters were all so friendly. I didn't feel like they were running a business there. It was more like staying a couple nights with some new friends. If you are going to stay a few nights in Manuel Antonio you can't beat this place.

Upgrading to the deluxe dorm is first come first serve and can only be booked at the Hostel if there is availability. No matter which dorm you choose, you will not be disappointed! ... more   less
