my new wife and i visited the suu for our honeymoon and were very impressed. the location is incredible, great view from the balcony of the ocean and the wildlife. we enjoyed sitting on our balcony watching the monkeys jump tree to tree 10 yards away. we recorded great footage to bring home. the hotel was very clean with very helpful staffing at the front desk, resturaunt and room service. we will definitly be back. the rooms were quite large and very nice bath and shower room.

Mr.& Mrs...,
Its gives immense pleasure to listen from you that you had a great holiday in Manuel Antonio and The SUU especially. Gives more motivation and happiness.
Its is better to have a car rented, if you like to explore more about the surroundings of Manuel Antonio as the taxi fares are a bit high. And the beach is very small best for kayaking and snorkeling.

Thanks again for the feedback and we believe to meet you again at The SUU

The decor of the hotel is all white which to be honest is a bit bland. The rooms are almost antiseptic in their appearance. There is no color at all and while it could appeal to a few it comes across as bland. This is the tropics and its one of the most colorful places in the world yet the hotel is lacking any real character because of the all white decor of choice. Needs art, needs color, needs depth. The view is great and is seen from all rooms.

The rooms are clean and new and the shower is amazing. But its going to age fast. They're still working out the kinks and based on the shoddy construction and lack of knowledge of how to actually install sinks, showers etc. they'll be spending a lot of time fixing broken things. For instance my room's shower was broken, the sliding door lock was broken and the bathroom sink clogged - this is a 6month old hotel mind you.

The other downsides are the cost of services (a massage was quoted at $160 ) that's more than I pay in LA!! There is also lack of any store or market nearby so you're going to have to bring in your own snacks and water etc. Also they only have wifi in the lobby which is a bit bothersome in such a high priced hotel but you'll live.

The good news:

Its clean, very clean.
The restaurant is spectacularly good. The best food I had anywhere near Central America. Try the Tuna Tartar - its the best I've ever had anywhere in the world. Dinner was phenomenal both nights I ate there and breakfast was cooked to order with fresh fruit and juice. The chef was attentive and kind enough to talk about his food - great job!

The service was fantastic. I had NO problems at all with the staff and in fact found them to be very helpful and kind. From the front desk to the bartender to the very kind and sweet housekeeper who brought me desert each night, it was a great stay.

The beach which is just a short walk from the hotel is gorgeous, safe, and so so nice. In fact its so close that it might as well be a part of the hotel. Monkey's, birds lots of crabs all were surrounding the hotel. Overall its a nice hotel and if you dont like large resorts is a great option. Its a little far from the town so a car would be best but you can walk to the bus and take it to Quepos and Manuel Antonio pretty easily

If any of the readers experienced the same or similar issues feel free to comment.
The building is beautiful with 100% potential to be a boutique hotel by there is no qualified management that will drive it to this direction as far as we concern by our experience.
We are still very disappointed from our experience at the hotel management. The hotel is rate as 4 stars hotel but operates as unrated hotel.
We wish the Suu Hotel best of luck and hopefully our concerns will help them to understand and make the right services to their guests in order to stay in business and to build the eruption of the hotel by international standards.
We had a prepaid reservation for Junior Suite includes breakfast from April 4-11, 2011 for 2 adults and 12 years girl WITH a LATE ARRIVAL NOTICE CLEARLY SPECFIED.
We wish we would never had to put so many different issues but we seriously believe that our concerns were under estimated by the hotel management and the actions they took was poorly professional if at all.
Because:
1. There are no driving directions to the hotel or the hotel address on the local Costa Rica GPS or even on the hotel website. The excuse received FROM THE MANAGEMENT WAS THAT BECAUSE THE HOTEL IS BRAND NEW THEY HAVE TO WAIT TILL 2012 TO UPDATE THE GPS SYSTEM. What I do not accept is no one thought about it during 2009/2010? The hotel was not built over night. Someone did not think about the guest and future. Meaning the planning was not in place.
2. There is no one single sign to direct guests to the hotel from the main Manuel Antonio street.
3. On our arrival day we called from San Jose to the hotel around 9PM. We were advised that the hotel was sold out and we have no room for that night. We had a prepaid confirmed reservation do not forget that. Upon our arrival to Manual Antonio we called the hotel over 50 times, from midnight till 3AM. There was no reply. Finally at 3AM Paula, a front desk clerk replied. We checked into our room 129 around 3:30AM, and officially checked in with signing in around 10:30AM. We requested numerous times to speak with the hotel manger with no much success until Thursday evening I saw a woman and a gentleman in the front desk area speaking with the clerks. After verifying that they were from the hotel management I requested to share with them the incidents and some other issues which you can read below. They listen to me and assure me verbally that all issues will be addressed professionally.
A night before our departure we found a letter from Teresa Alfonso, Managing Director, basically acknowledge and apologized for the incident of our arrival date, appreciated my honest feedbacks and with an offer of two nights complimentary stay in the hotel on our NEXT visit to Costa Rica.
Instead of credit us on the spot for two nights and make it up they hold us hostage on our next trip. Who knows if we will ever make it or would ever like to visit the area or the hotel at any future time? So basically we have in our hand a piece of paper with the log of the Suu Hotel, no dated, no signature and who knows when or if it will ever be honor by Suu Hotel in Costa Rica?
4. On the evening of April 5, 2011 we found a letter from the ‘Butlers team’ with no date and signature with a notice that on the next day from 8AM until 12:15PM there will be no electricity.
5. Bathroom- There is no soap dish and flowers were removed two days before our departure date. No soap dish.
6. Wi Fi- the reception failed connstenantly in the room and common areas.
7. Restaurant- service slow but food was excellent.
During our stay many times on different hours we received the menu with list of food and drinks. It was frustrating experience because the waiter did not have the courtesy to tell us what is not available and basically the selection was very minimal with comparison to the written menu given to us. We even witness an order of other guests for Mai Mai turned back to the kitchen as it was overcooked and the only choice for the poor guest was pasta with white sauce. She left the restaurant with empty stomach.
8. We booked most of our outdoor activities via the front desk clerk. We were never notified that we need to pay directly to the companies. The hotel was lacking on communication between us and the companies which caused us to spend our time on extra trips to downtown Quepos for no good reason.
9. There was no drink service at the pool area at any time.

We hope to hear from no other but Suu Hotel headquarter management in order to resolve the situations.

Dear Mrs.,

As I mentioned during our conversation, we appreciate your comments and we have taken immediate actions: Two billboards have been placed; we made an arrangement with the GPS company to add our property; we will add to our reservation confirmation directions how to get to the hotel. Our night shift manager is now on job training and we increase the Food & Beverage team .

Also the food & beverage purchase process has been improved, our small items missing in the rooms arrived already yesterday and some are on the way.

Thank you again for your honest feedback and I hope you give us a second chance to offer you our commitment with services.

Best Regards,
Teresa Alfonso (General Manager)

The Suu Manuel Antonio is a lovely hotel. It is a boutique hotel that is sophisicated, intimate and serene. The room decor of "white on white" promoted such a sense of tranquility while looking out from the balcony to a fabulous view of the rain forest and the ocean. My husband and I woke up every morning to beautiful birds and playful monkeys romping in the trees just in front of our balcony. But, it was the service staff that really made the difference for us. We have traveled quite a bit and never experienced the accomodating nature presented to us by the entire staff at the Suu Manuel Antonio. They did their jobs well. I wish that I could have tipped them more. My husband and I had a wonderful time and look forward to returning. Oh, I forgot, When we did eat at the hotel restaurant, the food was great , full of flavor and fresh. The restaurant setting, outdoors, amidst the rainforest and looking out to the ocean made it even better. Although, I felt a bit slighted at breakfast the morning of our departure. The staff was preparing for a buffet meal and our food seemed to be an afterthought.. That made me wonder a bit. All in all, we had a great time.

I was one of several travellers at the Suu over New Year's 2010-2011 that suffered terrible customer service from the management of the SUU. I would strongly recommend fellow travellers avoid this hotel.

In short, if anything goes wrong, management will not help you and will deliberately ignore your requests. Our room had no airconditioning, no advertised safe, one bedside lamp (and two tables?!), no TV, etc. etc. etc. Complaints were ignored by the manager - and the poor staff was stretched very thin trying to make the hotel run smoothly without a captain at the helm.

It took us almost **3 months** to get a refund from the hotel for our disappointing stay. We called the hotel nearly every day - and I called the parent company in Turkey (owned by a private investor), although that business also had no formal HQ or customer service team and directed me back to the Costa Rica hotel.

Sure it's pleasant, but for the price, you should expect much better service. There are many great (read: better) options in M.A.

Dear Mrs./Mr.,

First of all, I would sincerely like to apologize for all the inconveniences regarding your stay with us in last December.

In deep December was our full opening operation and we experience some challenge with new staff and hotel system as new property . We improved our operational smoothness in the last past three months and also completed the rooms. We have changed some of our staff, so now we do have a strong operational management team as well increase employee training.

We also made have a new accounting and reservation department head who are very professional and have a good experience. We created a new position in our hotel, which is Guest Service. She is responsible to follow our guests’ experience and satisfaction during their stay. As result you can see that we have had lately positive comments from our guests.

I truly hope you accept my apologies and give us a second chance to provide you a better experience with us and that we have improved our service to guarantee complete guest satisfaction.
