We really enjoyed our stay at La Colina. We definitely recommend the upper Ocean view rooms, which as other people have mentioned, do take some stair climbing to access (it's not a big deal if you're in average shape). This property is more rustic than polished, but totally pleasant and comfortable and of good value - and a diversion from the other more touristy resort style hotels. There is a swim up bar and the drinks are delicious and cheap!!!! I also need to mention that the chips and guacamole are made fresh - and were so delicious. It's a bit of a sleepy place - which is really nice. We had a car which was crucial to getting to the beach, as it's not that close to the beach. We felt very relaxed here and slept very well, but were still up every morning at 7am to enjoy the breakfast.

We stayed at Hotel La Colina over Easter weekend. Since all the hotels around MA have mixed reviews, we felt as if we were gambling by selecting any place via the web, but did not want to risk not having a place since we were traveling over the holiday. Hotel La Colina was a great choice! The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean. I highly recommend room 11. It has lots of windows that allow amazing sunset views. I even saw a monkey from the room one morning! The only negative we had was that water for the shower was sometimes sporadic. It cut off mid-shower at one point, but returned within a minute. As others have said, unless your budget is extremely tight select an ocean view room. For this and all of the hotels I saw, the jungle view rooms are close to the road and you will hear the traffic. Due to the central location, we found it convenient to take a taxi to dinner and make our return by walking, since the traffic is lighter at night. One last note, there are a huge number of steps at La Colina. If you have difficulty negotiating steps, La Colina is not the best choice. Be very specific in your needs when selecting a hotel in MA as steps are found at most hotels.

Overall La Colina is a great place to stay and I would recommend it if you are visiting the Manuel Antonio area.

Like many area hotels, La Colina is located on the steep and winding road between Manuel Antonio and Quepos, but not close enough to either location that walking is safe or easily possible, so plan on using the public transportation if you didn't rent a car. There are bus stops uphill and downhill from the hotel; the downhill stops are closer, but not as clearly marked.

The hotel buildings meander upward on a hillside, with a lot of stairs surrounded by beautiful, natural vegetation. The best rooms are the "ocean view" rooms on the top level; They're spacious and have an outdoor balcony. However, they're quite a hike up the hill from the reception area, so make sure you're up for the climb if you book these rooms.

The hotel's best asset was the bilingual staff. They were very helpful, and quick to assist with anything from calling a cab to booking some local outdoor activities (zipline tours, snorkeling, etc). The on-site restaurant was very convenient and had pretty good food. The rooms were clean and had all the basic necessities.

The only cons I would identify are the roosters at the farm next door, who tend to crow in the early morning hours, but I don't think this is an uncommon experience in Costa Rica. Just bring earplugs if you're not a heavy sleeper. I did see a few ants in the room, but it'd be unreasonable to expect otherwise given the surroundings.

A friend of mine and I traveled to Costa Rica in Feb 2009. We only had 5 days to spend so selected the Manuel Antonio area to experience both rainforest and coastal areas in our limited stay. We booked a room at La Colina. It was perfect. Delicious food in the restaurant. Ocean View room. Comfortable. Friendly staff that made the trip perfect, especially Lorena at the front desk. Highly recommend!!!

From the manager on down to the staff,we thought they were very professional! The manager took time to sit down with us in the front lobby to explain to us about the local area, the local people(TICOS), and even the groundskeeper CARLOS, took time to teach us alittle Spanish! The free breakfast was great each morning, with fresh Costa Rican coffee! We felt relaxed and would reccomend the La Colina to all guests! Good job La Colina!

We only had one night to stay since we were in San Jose on business but I wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel was just what we were looking for, a clean, quiet place with a good view and close to Manuel Antonio. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable with a nice view out to the ocean and lots of greenery all around. The bar, restaurant and pool area were in a very beautiful jungle setting with a nice view of the sunsets over the pacific.
It's a short taxi ride to Manuel Antonio Park and the beach or to Quepos and there was lots to do in both areas. The roads there are too crazy to try and walk and the taxis are cheap. I have more pictures but I haven't processed them yet and what I have processed I guess are too large to post here so I could only show one. Oh, one thing I forgot - there are a lot of stairs to get up to the ocean view rooms! It actually got to be fun finding our way around up and down the winding stairways and it was great exercise.

My fiance and I stayed at La Colina for 1 night while traveling through the area. We ended up there on a whim. They had a room available with double bed, tv, air cond., and bathroom for $55/night. This included free breakfast(which was really good!!), internet, pool, bar and restaurant. The staff were very nice and very helpful. Gave us tips on getting around Manuel Antonio/Quepos area and much more. Hotel room was a little dated, but in fine shape. Would deffinitely recommend La Colina.
