The hotel was fine besides the man with glasses at the front desk. After insulting me girlfriends Spanish and denying me a bottle of water at 11pm, he proceeded to tell us the entire plot to the dark knight rises. We asked him to stop, but he continued to reassure us that've wasn't ruining the movie for us. However, after seeing the movie tonight, we have come to the conclusion that it was almost as if we saw the film twice. Other than this guy, the place was nice. PS the "monkeys by the pool" is true only if you consider the cement kind to be real.

My husband and I had a terrible experience at this hotel. The mattress and pillows were filthy, sheets didn't fit, no towels were available both days, the showerhead was broken, the windows were fogged, people partied ALL night and we never got any sleep, management failed to tell us details about a tour they set up for us, so we missed it and now they insist WE HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. We decided to leave after one night even though we reserved for two... and now are having a terrible time fighting it with management. They refuse to refund for the night we did stay. So much for customer service!!!! I am so disappointed in how we were treated and their refusal to take responsibilty for their shortcomings. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!

After bringing our bags in, we noticed immediately the room we stayed in (Villa 2 - supposed to have a view of the beach but didn't because it was fogged the entire time) did not have towels and we were looking forward to a shower. My wife went up and requested them from Randall (the manager) and he said that he would have housekeeping bring them. We waited and house keeping did not come to deliver the towels. My wife went up a second time to get them herself from Randall. We proceeded to shower and the shower head almost fell off onto my head and it was spraying water all over the wall. I turned it on so that it at least stopped leaking.

Unfortunately, from there it got worse. We then noticed how filthy the sheets and pillow cases were on the bed. They seemed to have dried blood stains and long strands of hair on them and they appeared very dirty. My wife then went up for a third time to talk to Randall about the unclean sheets. Randall obtained a fresh set of sheets and we proceeded to put them on the bed ourselves but they did not fit at all. The pillows themselves were absolutely disgusting and stained from many years of use and smelled very badly. We were so tired and frustrated, that we chose to just go to bed. That evening the sheets came completely off the corners and we were left sleeping on a very filthy, unhygienic mattress pad. Furthermore, neither of us could sleep that night because of 1. A child was bouncing a ball and playing in the hallway outside of our villa at a very late hour and 2. Extremely loud techno music was playing from somewhere within the near vicinity for many hours. I got up to investigate, but could not locate where the music was coming from and IF you have security, he/she did nothing to stop the music. We “woke up” the next morning feeling very unrested and unsatisfied with our stay at Verde Del Mar.

On Sunday after exploring the area we came back to a “clean” room and found that there were no towels AGAIN or a bathmat. We then went up to the front desk to get some more towels and complain and that is when we were introduced Jason, another manager. Towels were not available at that time which was a surprise to us since you are running a hotel. We quickly decided that we could not stay another night at your hotel. We unsuccessfully tried to obtain a refund for the night because we were not going to stay on Sunday. After 1 hour and 45 minutes we were unable to get a refund and it was clear the owner was not available or willing to answer the phone and the managers have zero authority.

For the 11 nights we were in Costa Rica this was the worst experience we had. The owner and manager refuse to refund us for the night we refused to stay. Over 6 unanswered emails to the owner and are currently fighting this with our credit card company.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Yes, the reviews are correct being a budget hotel. Its not a 5 star everything fancy, but the room was clean, has a fridge and kitchen and stove. Air con and fan. Free wifi in the lobby area. The staff were very helpful and eager to please and ensure I was having a good stay. My room on the balcony was overlooking the pool, and the beach is literally a 2 min walk away. Entrance is by buzzer for security. Saw a sloth, crabs and lizards right at our hotel. The location couldnt be better - so close to walking into town and to the national park, plus youre on the beach and can come and go as you please. pool was nice, shady areas and clean. The 'restaurant' is a kitchen near reception where the chef will prepare you a great and cheap meal. I liked the feel of it, and didnt feel like a hotel, more like sitting in the kitchen waiting for mum to cook breakfast. I would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the balcony. Great views. If you dont like crabs which come to visit from the be...

We picked this place because it got a great review in Frommers, appearing on the list of the top 10 moderately priced hotels in the country. Wow - Frommers, major lapse. We stayed for 3 nights (with our 3 year old and 5 year old) and every single night we had a room full of partiers next to us...DIFFERENT people every night! Our first night, the place was full of Costa Rican families...there were probably 40 people crammed into the tiny pool, another 20 making dinner and eating it outside our room, people even brought speakers out into the hallway right in front of our room to blast music at 8pm as our kids were trying to go to sleep. The next night, it was drunk, rowdy college kids who seemed to have invited a huge entourage of new friends into their room at 2am. The third night we moved rooms, only to find ourselves over a different party. And I don't even think the walls are particularly thin at this place...it just seems to attract the kind of clientele who like to party (there are signs on the back of every door that actually say "If you want to party, go to a nightclub, don't do it in your room" - that should have been my first clue). So, if you're a partier or can sleep through anything, this is a good bet (affordable, near the beach etc.) But if you want to actually sleep (and care that that don't, in fact, clean the rooms...that's another story) go elsewhere. This place was so trashy that I'm afraid it totally colored my experience of Manuel Antonio...no desire to go back.

If you love the beach and are willing to compromise on the Hotel Quality- this one is for you.
The beach is just behind the Hotel - this is great, our kids went alone to the beach (but not in the water...) and return. The swimming pool is small but did the work for them.

The Hotel looks exactly like the web site - no more no less.
Two queen size beds, small kitchen if you wanna cook, all the restaurants & the park
are 10 min walk or less from the Hotel.
Restaurant in the Hotel is very nice and simple, good for breakfast.

Service is nice - they got us a really great guide for the park. Really a good one!
It was nice if we could take things from the restaurant (like coffee) and pay when
we leave, and not pay every time.

Overall the experience was very nice. I would return & recommend it.

Room Tip: Next to the pool if you got kids, away if you don't like noise.

We stayed in 4 different hotels in 4 different cities in Costa Rica and this one was the by far the best. Why? Well it had everything you would want/need for a great stay.
1. Kitchenette- very convenient for staying on a budget. Time saver in the morning because you can make your own coffee and light breakfast before heading out for the day.
2. Location- The beach is basically in the backyard and the pool area looked fun for families (we didn't use it and instead opted for the various beaches in Manual Antonio). There were even monkeys and sloths on the property. Very close to restaurants and shops- some are within walking distance and others are just a short taxi ride away. The bus stop is 50 meters from the entrance and VERY cheap if you want to explore. The National Park was also within walking distance which was nice since we spent a couple days hanging out there. The beach in the park was busy, but a lot of fun.
3. Overall Room Quality- ample sized rooms with A/C and good bathroom. The layout/decor of the hotel is very cute.
4. Staff- Very funny, helpful, and friendly; top-notch customer service
