“Great restaurant, excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

As part of our tour of Costa Rica, we stayed overnight in the area of Manuel Antonio. We stayed at another hotel, but came here with a group for diner. The place is nice, food was good, as was the service (O do not no cost- as it was part of out deal).

We were fortunate to get a first floor room overlooking the pool and restaurant (there are only two floors in each building). The food was good, if a little bizarre (beef with pineapple was weird). There's a pool table to while away the hours. The pool is very small.

The hotel seems to have a lot of tourists coming by for lunch as part of a coach tour but I guess they have to make their money somehow. Best to avoid those groups.

There's wifi in reception but it didn't work anywhere else. Staff were great.

For us, this was the last hotel in a 2-week trip and it was perfect as a sea-side location.

By the way, go to the beaches in the park - they are much better than the ones in the village.

Room Tip: A first floor room is best

Hello Allan! and thanks for your kind comments and punctuation.

The wifi is now improved. This last rainy season we´ve been giving special attention, so the guests that come for lunch don't bother the hotel´s guests.

Thanks again for letting us know.

We´re glad you liked your unit next to the pool, the beaches nearby and the pool table!

Pura Vida!

Having stayed at several high quality hotels en route to Espadilla, it was a bit of a return to earth when we opened the door of our room to find something reminiscent of a 1970s motel, with a kitchenette devoid of aesthetic virtue. In short, high on function, low on creature comfort. Tired, somewhat past its sell-by date, hideously noisy AC units, could really do with some investment.
On the very plus side, and this is a very big plus, while the room may have been disappointing, the amenities around the pool, bar and restaurant compensated superbly. Thank you to the staff who offered us endless iced water, great happy hour cocktails, and a rather wonderful fillet mignon the night we ate at the restaurant.
Finally, as others have said, the location is superb. Yes get to the nature reserve early, although on balance, I'd say pay for a guide, as they do seem to have a real knack of spotting stuff.

Room Tip: Try and get one overlooking the swimming pool

Rooms were a bit tired but adequate. Lovely pool and nice breakfast included. The property is on a side road off the main street, located very close to the national park entrance. Our room included a kitchenette, which we did not expect. The nearby beach is beautiful for sunsets. Walking distance to many restaurant options but the hills will give you a workout and public buses are an option to get into town. We thought this property was going to be on or nearer the beach since we upgraded from the Cabinas Espadilla, but that sister property is actually closer to the beach. Tip for visiting the reserve - arrive as early as possible and you don't need a guide. We hiked the park alone and made first tracks on the beach. It was magical, and as we hiked out all the crowds and groups were entering. Glad we missed that.

We stayed here for 5 nights having toured some of the country and initially thought we could have stayed somewhere better. However after we had walked around we realised that for the money and area this was probably our best choice. The rooms are very spacious and the resort is tucked away from the main street so very quiet. They have a nice albeit small pool but it is nice to come back to after a days trekking and have a cool dip. The hotel is also fringed by the forest so it not unusual to see the monkeys and lots of birds oh and the mischievous iguanas who climb onto the roof of the bar to steal the bananas from the trees.
The staff are very polite and courteous and when you do sit around the pool area will regularly come and bring you out a cold glass of water (no charge) and check to see if you would like anything else.
There is a happy hour late afternoon and if you partake you will also get free nibbles and salsa which was a nice bonus.
Food at the hotel is okay although we didnt eat there for lunch or evening meals we did have a pizza which we ate in the room and it was very good.
The bed was really comfortable and the room was very clean and more than sufficient for our needs there was also a fridge and a very large tv not that we ever use one on holiday.

The hotel is a few minutes walk to the main beach, shops, bars and also to the national park / reserve which we found very disappointing due to the amount of people trekking through it at any one time!

The beach at Manuel Antonio is a very long bay which is great to walk / jog along and when you pass the busy sun lounger area it is quite peaceful. They have a couple of beach bars which were very run down but still wanted to charge the earth for their food.

The food and service however at Harleys bar on the main strip we couldnt fault. The staff there are extremely polite and helpful and the drinks and food very good value for money although Costa Rica generally is not a cheap place to eat.
We also used the Marlin bar opposite but felt ripped off by the weak drinks served.

Would we go back - yes we would visit this hotel if we ever returned to Manuel Antonio.

Room Tip: There are 16 rooms in total on 2 levels so possibly choose an upstairs room purely to reduce any noi...

This was the second time we visited the hotel. Nothing changed :-). Friendly staff and along the pool they brought us water for free! In the morning we saw whiteface monkeys on the roof of the restaurant. The beach is nearby and the entrance of the national park around the corner. A perfect place to stay.

Very good location just 5 minutes from beach or the National Park. It has a nice patio restaurant with good food, and some lush gardens. But it is way expensive for what it offers. Family-owned (with extended members "monopolizing" the area), the staff seemed uninterested, even unhelpful. Rooms have an odd layout: surrounded by verandas providing limited privacy, and a bathroom added to the inner corner of the room.

Despite pricey, you may feel nickle-and-dimed at every corner (e.g., no shampoo, extra towels charged) - much under the disguise of an "environmental" orientation. If you don't mind paying more this might be a good option, but you can get similar options at a better price nearby.
