My wife and I just returned from a Costa Rica and spent two nights at La Mariposa. We were there during the off-season so the rooms were about as cheap as the hotel lets them go. We stayed in the Junior Suite with a balcony. The room was WAY over priced (even at the lowest price) for what you get. No TV, Bad Furniture, Bad Bed, dirty and you can hear everything from outside (people talking quietly etc). (Worse than a Motel 6!)
I would still recommend staying at this hotel for AT MOST 2 days. The view truly is amazing and worth the horrible room. The pools are old but nice to sit at and get a tan. The bar by the pool was nice and had a plasma screen TV to watch a game. I did notice that there is a newer set of buildings that must be the step above the Junior Suite that looked significantly better. Thus, if you can afford the extra money and you have a picky wife, like I do, I would recommend you go this route!
The Junior Suite in the Busy Season is over $300 (Defiantly not worth it at this price). Go to another hotel and see the view.
Go to El Avion restaurant just down the road toward Manuel Antonio Beach. It has great views, great food, and great drinks! Go watch the sunset there!
