“Amazing Stay in the Penthouse.”
Reviewed August 16, 2008

Costa Verde is a wonderful rustic jungle lodge

nestled in a rain forest bluff over looking MA

but built in stories so the views

are the most awesome for price in MA.

The very best are in CVII

The Penthouse where we stayed had 270 degree panoramic views over the ocean beach and park with iguanas and monkeys frolicking in the treetops below.Very romantic large 2000 sq. ft suite of rooms with kitchen large bathrooms and wrap around patio with wonderful rustic wooden furniture naturally matching the rain forest. Very nice private pool short down hill walk to beach MA park.

We paid $150/nt great value.

We will be back.

This hotel was 5 star! Loved the room, the view, the pools, the pool bar, the restaurants, how close it is to the park/beach/town.
Perfect location. Ask to stay in Costa Verde 2...ocean view. That is where we were and it was an unforgettable 3 nights.

Our room was beautifully glassed-in on two sides with a view to the jungle. We ate supper every night on our private porch. The staff was very nice and helpful.

But the sliding six-foot-wide glass paneled door was hard to open and close. The was a good-sized refrigerator, but no microwave. And there was no hot water in the bathroom sink--there was only a single cold water line out of the wall splitting into a line for the "hot" and cold taps! And while the room was beautiful, there were eighteen steps to negotiate up to it, and we had to park the car down a steep hill.

Still, though, the hotel and Costa Rica were a really good experience.

We've just returned home from vacation and are going thru withdrawal.
The staff- everyone from the main desk to the guys sweeping the paths- were so friendly and helpful. They all went out of their way to help us with anything needed.
We had gone with extended family (15+ people), some handicapped and fared well.

My immediate family stayed in A-9. Located at the highest level. Be prepared for the steps. Worked out great- size wise. Had a pool outside the front door and down a flight of steps. If you have a car easier to access.

The Costa Verde II is by far the winner, with it's own adult only pool and great views, cool breezes. But ADULT only.

We had other family members stay closer to the front desk due to handicapped needs(using cane, limited walking ability), worked out well.

The thing to remember if booking special services. They want CASH.

Can't wait to return.

The food was fabulous, and well priced.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hotel Costa Verde last January. We had a Studio Plus room which is located in the area of the property where they do not allow children. The room had everything including an amazing balcony with a panoramic view of the ocean, a full kitchenette with stove and dishes, a dining table, two beds, and a large bathroom. The kitchenette was super helpful because we went to the grocery store and bought sandwich stuff, pan dulce, drinks, etc. This is helpful if you want to be frugal or not have to go to a restaurant to eat all the time.

As soon as we walked into the room our jaws dropped. The property was awesome and so was the staff. We had absolutely no complaints whatsoever. They even sell internet connect cards in their gift shop.

The only one of the restaurants we tried on the property was the Anaconda. We ate breakfast there twice - just delicious!

It's a little tricky walk down to the beach of Manuel Antonio since it's down a hill with no sidewalk and cars zooming by, but there's a bus that runs up and down the main road in front of the hotel and that's easy to catch. I think it only costs like 50 cents or something.

We ended up lying at the beach at 8AM and had a declicious breakfast served to us while lying on our beach chairs. Awesome! We plan on going back this next January.

Costa Verde is a great "little" hotel (not run by a huge corporation) but it is a large property. My family and I stayed in the "condo" portion of the hotel which was a generous sized room with an AWESOME view. In fact, I think we stayed in the room from which the hotel's website pictures were taken. The kitchenette wasn't much; just a sink, a refrigerator and a small electric range, but we weren't on vacation to cook our own meals anyway. The biggest "problem" we had with this hotel is that there were no phones in the room, so we had to walk (sometimes in the pouring rain) to the gift shop to use their phones, and you have to buy a phone card to do that. Because of storms, their Internet connection was sparse and cell phone connection was non-existent. The bus to Quepos or Manuel Antonio Beach stops right outside the hotel (cost was about 23 cents) or of course the reception desk can call you a taxi that will cost you about $6. The hotel has 3 restaurants which are all reasonably priced, however, the BBQ Grill does not have as much selection as the other 2. (the Anaconda and the Airplane) There are plenty of iguana on the property, as well as monkeys and a resident sloth. My husband and children witnessed an argument between 2 monkeys from our verdanda while I was trying to place a phone call. We totally and completely enjoyed our stay at Costa Verde and would definitely consider staying there again. Very reasonably priced for the area and the hotel is well maintained.

We had a fantastic time at Hotel Costa Verde. The hotel was well situated into the lush, tropical environment. We stayed in a studio plus room in the B complex (with a/c) and had the most amazing view. Of the three restaurants at the hotel, we most enjoyed Anaconda, which had great views and a nice atmosphere for our daily breakfast. We did wish that breakfast would have been included. The rooms were rustic, but clean and spacious. We did not encounter any major bug problem, although we did see a few small ants. The reception was friendly and helpful in setting up tours. We were extremely happy with the ATV tour and the Canopy Tour. I would not, however, recommend a snorkeling/dolphin watching tour if you go during the months of June/July. Although we should have done more research on our own before booking, we felt that that front desk staff member who helped us set up the tour should have informed us that the conditions for both of these activities was not good due to merky water from the rain run off and strong currents (which the dolphins do not like). This seemed to be a well known fact amongst other locals that we spoke to. The reception attendant strongly recommended a particular company, which in hindsight, he may have been looking out for a friend or relative who ran that tour. Overall the Manuel Antonio area was great--very beautiful and filled with wildlife. We found the Ticos to be very friendly and helpful, however, on a few occassions we unfortunately aware of the fact that they were looking to make as much money off of the tourists as possible. The weather was consistent--sun in the morning, rain in the late afternoon, and clear, humid nights. We found that the rain often added to the excitment of the activities we were doing. Considering we were in the rainforest, we did not mind the rain. We saw monkeys from our balcony on 2 occassions. Hearing/seeing the howler monkeys from the room was a great time. We would definitely recommend this hotel.
