“Spring for the 747!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights in February 2012. We originally booked the 747 airplane suite for 1 night and a different room for the other 2 nights. Upon arriving at the airplane, we immediately asked if the next 2 nights were booked and requested to change our reservation. ITS SO COOL!!!!! We were able to stay 2 nights in the 747 suite and it was an unforgettable experience. You can take a shower in the cockpit and even sit in the pilot's chair! Waking up to the sun coming through the mini windows was awesome. If its in your budget, do it!
Our experience at the hotel overall was really great. The check-in was quick and the staff was friendly and helpful. The FREE wi-fi worked great! When it was time for us to move out of the airplane and into a standard room, the staff did all the work for us. They were GREAT!
We chose not to stay in the adult only building because there's no air conditioning and only screens separating you from the outdoors. I can't imagine trying to sleep in that heat, with mosquitos buzzing your ears every 2 minutes. It just wasn't for me. Our room in the other area was really nice. It had a gorgeous view of the ocean, big lanai with nice chairs to sit and watch the sunset, and the bathroom was clean and tidy.
We too were disappointed that the monkeys never came down to the restaurant. Apparently its a nightly tradition, but in our 3 nights, we never saw them. Can't blame the hotel, though!
We ate several meals at the hotel restaurant and they were always tasty.
I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Stay in the 747 suite! What an incredible experience!

Stayed here for a few nights in late June. We had a studio room with ocean view. The room was spectacular- huge balcony with rocking chairs and views straight at the ocean on three sides. The room was huge with tile floors throughout and massive screen doors and windows to give an unobstructed view. Knowing you are in the great outdoors, it did take some getting used to the big bugs that crept in under the screens, but we coated it with OFF and managed to keep them from coming back. There was no AC but ceiling fans did the job well. Bathroom was pretty standard with a huge shower.

The front desk was helpful with setting up tours. Don't expect to change rooms through- because you pay upfront, they will not let you make changes to the reservation once you arrive. The resort is rather spread out so expect some walking between your room and the pool, lobby, restaurants, etc.

There were monkeys right outside our hotel room windows one morning, which made the place one of the most amazing I've ever stayed. Watching a huge thunderstorm roll through and then the lightning out at sea late a night made the balcony even more special.

Room Tip: Costa Verde II is 18+ and well worth it if you're not traveling with children

We stayed here for 3 days at the end of our trip to Costa Rica. We had a Studio Plus, with view of the other. It was spectacular - amazing to be able to look over the beaches of Manuel Antonio from our balcony. Room was big - one king, one queen, air-conditioned, well-lit, clean. A little dated in its layout, but very nice nonetheless. We would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly except for the front desk service: a large fraction of the front desk staff were remarkably unhelpful with questions about the hotel, and what to see in the area. The deals they offered for tours were inferior to what we can easily find looking through TripAdvisor. Too bad. They should really shape up the front desk staff.

Room Tip: We were happy with the Studio Plus room with a view of the ocean. Great view at $150/night.

Thanks so much for your review of our hotel and services. We regret to hear that you received poor service and will be sure to share your feedback with the entire front desk team. Our team is quite knowledgeable and has received several accolades for their attentive service in the past. However, while a variety of factors could contribute to an "off day" there really is never an excuse for being less than 100% helpful and attentive to our guests. Please do visit us again one day in the future so we can share a little extra Pura Vida with you.

My husband, 5 year old and I stayed here for one evening in July 2012. We spent two nights at the Hotel Parador, but I wanted to stay here for one night to ensure some monkey viewing, so transferred here for the last night in MA. Wish we hadn't. Firstly, no monkeys. I'm not going to blame the hotel for this, though. But I am going to blame them for closing their 'famous for monkey viewing at sunset' restaurant, Anaconda. One of the other reasons we stayed here was that they had a highly rated restaurant on premises (always easier with a 5 year old.) The website, to my knowledge, did not bother to mention that Anaconda has been closed for months because it's the low season.

PROS:
• Lovely view of ocean - huge windows in our "studio plus" and although we were on wrong side for sunset, we got a pretty cool thunderstorm in the distance
• Pretty grounds
• spacious room
• theoretically good for wildlife, but no first-hand experience, other than a line of ants marching across my hubby when he woke up!
• Pretty yummy breakfast, but not included. And when I tried to sign it to my room, I was told that I needed to set that up on my account. Huh? Why wouldn't they mention that at check in.

CONS:
• Lots of steps, which isn't a con unless the bellman doesn't show up to help you with your bags, which ours didn't
• Not very friendly service. Not unfriendly, but we were so used to friendly people at other hotels, that we were a little letdown.
• Hard beds, and sparse bedding. Thin sheet and thin blanket/bed.
• Anaconda closed for the season.
• so-so pool at area aB

Thank you for your review of our hotel. We appreciate your PROs list very much and are glad that you pointed out some of the great things about Costa Verde in lieu of not-so-great night. We can assure you that with a few more nights here you would have definitely seen some wildlife. It's true, sometimes the animals can make themselves scarce (maybe it was the thunderstorm:), but almost daily we are greeted by sloths, monkeys, iguanas, porcupines, a variety of birds and other species.

We apologize for the inconvenience when Restaurant Anaconda was not open. We will take your suggestion and add a note about low season hours on our website. Although a few more steps away just across the street our BBQ restaurant La Cantina remains open year round. We hope you were able to enjoy a meal there.

"Underwhelming service" is never a comment we like to hear. But, we'll surely take it back to the team and hope to provide top-notch service going forward. We always want our guests to feel welcome and safe with a friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff.

Thanks again for your review.

We stayed in the Adult Only building. One night in a forest view room and one night with the pool, ocean view. Beautiful setting, able to hear the sounds of the forest as the room only has screens (no windows) to the outside. No A/C but the fans were fine. Few insects, lizards but nothing to worry about...very clean and wonderful. You feel as if you are in the jungle.

Plus, we went for a short "hike" on one of the hotel's trails and saw numerous lizards, a snake eating a lizard, butterflies, etc.

No breakfast included but you do have a kitchenette with range, refridgerator, etc.
Good location.

Room Tip: The extra $ for the ocean view rooms are worth it.

We stayed at Costa Verde II for 3 nights in March and it exceeded our expectations. It was the most expensive place we stayed in Costa Rica, but I understand why. The room was nice enough, the balcony was amazing with a partial ocean view, and monkeys right outside each morning! The pool- the view from the pool- was stunning! We avoided the restaurants associated with the hotel due to their higher prices.

Fabulous setting on the edge of Manuel Antonio National Park. Their theme is "Still more monkeys than people", which seems true. The small monkeys put on a show at evening feeding time jumping from tree to tree. Sometimes the larger howler monkeys made their characteristic call from time to time and it was interesting to listen to them, even one night late into the night. Never saw them here, but did later in the park itself. Rooms are cleverly built into the beautiful hillsides and there is folliage all around. Goof views of the water from the restaurant and some rooms.

We had two rooms. The first was a very large room right next to the office. It was beautiful, made of finely polished, gorgeous wood planks. Nice, large bath and a kitchenette. Large windows to let in the breeze during the day. We used a/c at nite, and had a very good nite's sleep the first night. However, someone occupied the room above us the second nite. Did I mention the whole building was constructed of wood? No insulation at all, not even carpet upstairs. One occupant walked like a bull elephant. The dainty one was barefoot and walked on tiptoes, but we could still hear and it kept us up late, even after I banged on the wooden ceiling and I know they must have heard our banging. Then the two units that made up our four-plex arrived and kept us up even later.

The staff was very accomodating and moved us to a cabin where no one was above us. It was great, with two tiny bedrooms. Kitchenette was on the spacious balcony overlooking the forest/jungle with a distant view of the ocean. This was wonderful except our last night when the room was already reserved. Rather than go back to our other room, we opted to head back toward the airport and get another hotel and better nite's sleep.

I must say the bellmen were very helpful, as were everyone at the restaurant onsite, but the office was closed by the time I tried to complain about noise our second nite.

Room Tip: do not get a room with someone over you. All rooms I saw were in duplexes or quads.
