“Great staff, Nice views of Jungle & Monkeys”
Reviewed March 14, 2008

Stayed in one of the bunglelows in the Jungle portion of the property and it was great. Had great views of monkeys at least a couple of times while we stayed there. The casino is a little small but people are nice. Nice sports bar area and the staff is great. The staff at the hotel was great. They treated us very well the entire time and booked us on some great tours. Make sure to do the park tour with the guide they use. He was great! There is ALOT of stairs to the bunglelows so be mindful of that for people that may have disabilities.

  • Liked — The room location
  • Disliked — The A/C remote was broken so it was like a meat locker in our room.

My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to book a few nights at the Byblos during the high season only two weeks before our trip. While the hotel didn't have enough room to host us during our entire week in Quepos, we loved our three nights in Bungelow #1. The spacious room and huge balcony above a lush garden were wonderful. We'd wake up to the sound of monkeys and birds just outside of our room. Each evening a family of monkeys would make their way across the treetops of the property - so cool!

The staff was very nice - Paul, one of the fellows at the desk, was our favorite - he arranged a number of tours for us and had a fantastic attitude.

Breakfast by the pool was nice each morning- food was fine which it certainly should have been for the price, but nothing spectacular. With all due respect to the Byblos, just about every hotel and restaurant in the area felt a bit overpriced.

The bar provided low-key entertainment in the way of billiards. The casino was small and took our money. :(

I really liked the Byblos and I'd certainly recommend it.

  • Liked — The bungelow's view of the jungle
  • Disliked — The schmuck that was staying next door.

After a problem with another hotel we came to Byblos and we were thrilled to stay.

The positive reviews below say most everything right as far as we experienced. The rooms were clean, spacious and had a peek at the Pacific. We found absolutely no problem with noise from the road or casino.

The grounds are beautiful and the monkey show is really something else and well worth the visit.

The only negative which is no fault of the hotel is that the creek that runs behind the property ( and all the properties on the inland side of the road) is polluted and on occasion you caught a bad sewery whiff. Shame on the authorities for this. But this was not bad enough often enough to prevent me from recommending this hotel.

Deluxe rooms face the main highway going to the beach (Manuel Antonio State Park) and as a result I had a lot of difficulty sleeping and was not at all happy - that was the main problem. In all fairness I am somewhat noise sensitive. Rooms are old but held together by an attentive staff that is trying to please. In our room the cold water faucet of the shower came off and the air conditioner started leaking a flood of water down the side of the wall (including over an electrical outlet). Staff did relocate us to another room but it also was facing the street.

If it had not been for the street - and many hotels do face the street - I would have been fine. The pool was nice and there were kids their for my kids to play with.

The Manual Antonio State Park is quite small by Costa Rican standards - if you want to see jungle I suggest you head inland. The beaches in the park were nice but nothing incredible - and there was a wait of about an hour when we went to get in (around 11:30 am). As an alternative, the beach in town is a bit wavy but fine and you can rent beach lounges for about $18/day for three.

Traveling from San Jose after staying in an American Business hotel, this was simply the paradise we had been hoping to find in Costa Rica. We were warmly greeted at check in and given a map and information to make our stay pleasant. As we were walked to our bungalow we found ourselves embraced by the rainforest, with a view of the pool, and a quiet stream below. Stay in the bungalows...I cannot imagine not! The room was complete with a safe, mini-fridge, microwave, and a lovely veranda overlooking natural beauty. The monkeys do visit here, and we saw Howler monkeys on several occasions from the pool area.
The restaurant by the pool is very nice, with great food! The breakfasts are a wonderful way to start your day's adventures to the gorgeous nearby Manuel Antonio National Park.
The owners were very friendly, informative, and overly accomodating as our flight wasn't until later in the evening, and we were allowed a late check-out. This allowed us to fully enjoy our last day here. We simply hated leaving Byblos. We hope to return, and will continue recommending it to our friends!

This is an excellent hotel with great facilities in a good location in this resort.

Rooms are a good size without being enormous, incorporating a good sized balcony. The inclusion of a fridge and a microwave in the rooms is a real bonus.

The swimming pool area is excellent with a good pool bar with drinks and standard poolside food (pizzas, burgers etc.) which are prepared to a very high standard.

Located on the steep hillside road about 20 minutes difficult walk from the main beach in the resort, anyone staying here should use the reliable public bus service to get to and from the hotel wich costs just 110 colones (20 cent euros) each way. The majority of hotels in the resort are up this hill, so this hilly location can not really be avoided

There is a lively sports bar / casino at the hotel which is great fun for a drink and / or a game of cards / pool. However, if you do like to get an early night the music from the bar could be an annoyance.

Please be aware that due to the setting of the hotel rooms i.e. within the forest surrounding the hotel, that a signifcant number of insects can be found in your hotel room.

  • Liked — Facilities, value for money
  • Disliked — Nothing - unless you have an insect phobia

“Tropical Wonderland”

My first visit to Quepos, Costa Rica and the Byblos Hotel was nothing short of fabulous!! The hotel staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They welcomed me with opened arms and I’ve never felt more like family at any vacation destination. The hotel itself is clean, modern and offered many fun amenities. Whether we gambled, played pool, enjoyed the live entertainment, relaxed by the pool or dined on the wonderful cuisine....a great time was had by all.
I stayed in one of the private bungalows and was enamored by the beautiful plant life and sounds of the wildlife outside my door. The monkeys swinging from the palm trees were very entertaining. I couldn’t have found a better sanctuary or getaway from the stresses of everyday life.
If relaxation wasn’t enough there were plenty of things to do and the staff was very helpful in recommending activities within minutes of the hotel. Horseback riding on the beach, nature tours, canopy tours, shopping, hiking and visiting the butterfly garden were just a few of the fun adventures available in and around Quepos.
The only way I could have improved this vacation was to stay longer! After five days I was very sad to leave. I would highly recommend Quepos and the Byblos Hotel to anyone who is looking for a fun, relaxing and memorable adventure at a very reasonable price.
