“Amazing time”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

This was a fantastic hotel, I loved it to bits. I had one of the bungalows in the rainforest, and had monkeys running around on the roof. It may. It sound it, but it was pretty cool.

Staff were exceptional, very friendly and accommodating.

The food was magnificent. Best fish I have ever had in my life. Of course it depends on when they got their fish. One say it was obviously fresh the same day. Two days later it was obvious our appetizer fish was from a few days ago, but thankfully our main course fish was so fresh a skilled veterinarian could have brought it back to life.

One day my buddy and I went fishing and brought back our catch which for a few dollars cooked it up four different ways and we had a huge feast with some friends we made down there.

The bar was quite busy at night, lots of people having a good time, and we loved it, and I know I would go back in a heart beat

Room Tip: Get a bungalow, they were great!

Dear James,
Thank you for your kinds words. Happy guests make us happy! The menu’s, kitchens and administration of our restaurants have undergone quite a bit of change this summer and we are proud of the result. We wish you the best in all your travels and hope to see you back at Byblos.

We stayed three nights here and had a fantastic and enjoyable time. I felt that my rental vehicle was safe in their parking lot.
The room was comfortable with a fridge and microwave. Very cozy.
Lots of plant-life and tall trees on the property which attracted wildlife. Nice stream that flowed through the resort. This was perfect environment in which to see the frogs and harmless snakes if you wanted to walk about and peer in the plants at night-- lots of nocturnal nightlife in CR.
I loved the breakfast--especially the burritos. Nice pool but cool and no one seemed to be swimming. They were probably at one of the lovely beaches just down the road at manuel Antonio Park until dark. 50 cents will get you close to the entrance in less than 10 minutes.
I liked the fact that they had a bar with free pool tables and entertainment.
Happy hour offered BOGO free mojitos for $7 that were way watered down. Just stick with the beer and you will be happy.
Overall, a very clean safe place to stay.

Room Tip: The higher up you are the more monkeys you will see early in the morning and late afternoon. Or you...

We stayed 4 nights here in a Bungalow with a real sense of being in the Jungle. Monkeys in the trees every day. Great value, excellent service and a good bar. The staff were really helpful arranging trips and travel.

There is an excellent cheap local bus service to the beach and back. Its a great area with loads of restaurants.

We really enjoyed our time here.

Room Tip: Go for a bungalow!

My mom and I stayed here for 3 nights to visit Manuel Antonio and to also experience some of the areas nearby. We stayed in a bungalow - room #5, which was fun. The deck was a cute addition. The bathroom was sufficient - the shower tends to get much of the floor wet, so just be prepared and don't slip! There was air conditioning and a TV with bad reception, so make sure to have other ways to entertain yourself. Also, the beds are super firm - way too hard for my comfort. The hotel had billiards, a bar, restaurant, complimentary breakfast (not buffet style - the burrito was the best on the morning menu). A neat addition to the hotel is that it is surrounded by nature so you can see acouti running around, many insects, frogs, lizards, and even snakes! However, we often found ourselves going to be early - like 10 or so and getting up around 6/6:30 to start our day and activities. Make sure not to lose any towels or handtowels - they almost charged us $20.00 for a handtowel, when we were only given 1 in the first place. Overall, it was a good place, and my mom got a pretty good deal on the bungalow! Also, off season seemed fine. We were in Manuel Antonio August 21-24 and it rained late afternoon or evenings and allowed us to do all the fun activities we wanted to do!! Have fun!

We stayed 2 nights at Byblos, and enjoyed our stay there.

Positive sides :
- We were upgraded because we had originally booked 1 night with Hotels.com, and decided to stay 1 more night, so the room we had initially booked was not available, but they offered us a bungalow instead. And we only payed the rate of the bungalow for the 2nd night, and even less since they gave us a discount (105 $ taxes included).

- Nice surroundings : the view from our bungalow on the pool and tropical garden was really lovely.

- Great location: it is on the road to Manuel Antonio (closer to Manuel Antonio than Quepos) so it's a very short ride to reach the park.

- Friendly staff (especially at the reception), effective service (restaurant).

- The pizza was good (baked in a real pizza oven) and we are really picky about it, since we often go to Italy and don't like thick American pizzas that have nothing in common with "real" original Italian pizzas. But we were pleasantly surprised, they were actually quite good !

- We actually ordered the food, but did not eat it at the poolbar, we enjoyed it from the balcony of our bungalow, much more intimate and romantic !
The next day, we had lunch by the pool, very nice too, the food was not excellent (we tasted a much better ceviche elsewere) but ok.

- The bungalow was nice (decoration) and quite large, although looking a bit old.

Negative sides (not so many really) :

- if you don't get any discount (but look out for them!), the price, for the quality of the bungalow, is a bit expensive although the whole Manuel Antonio area is.

- don't expect a lot of sun in the pool and light in the room (because the resort is set onto a canyon, you actually have to climb down from the reception to reach the main area) so the hotel is rather dark and the walk is perhaps tiring for some people with all the steps. BUT it was not really a problem for us. The darkness was compensated by the beautiful wild environment, and the staff helped us carry our luggage so we did not mind the numerous steps.

- Again, not a negative side as such, but when there are a lot of tourists during the high season, the atmosphere is probably less intimate. At least, don't expect the intimacy and hospitality you would get from a B&B. We enjoyed the service provided by the hotel (ex : the hairdryer in the bathroom) but this was not our favourite place in Costa Rica, because we are fond of quiet and smaller places, we like getting to meet and know people by talking to them. At Byblos, the service is effective but obviously more impersonal.

On the whole though, we were really happy with our stay, and had not really anything to complain about.

We found this hotel very expensive (150 USD) for the quality it delivered. The hotel is very old and the quality of the bathrooms inside the rooms is very poor. It does not provide the quality expected for a 150USD / night hotel. Also the quality of the beds was poor.

Dear Bego G,
We sincerely regret that our hotel was not to your liking, we certainly understand that Byblos is not the perfect hotel for every traveler. However, our room rates are very competitive for the area where our hotel is located, especially when you take into account the numerous amenities our rooms and property offers, including orthopedic mattresses and high quality bed linens.
We wish you happy exploring on your future travels! Sincerely, Davis Henley

This resort has a restaurant that makes great pizza...or try the Calzones! WOW! So delicious. Waiters are friendly and attentive. Food is great. Prices are reasonable. Going back tonight! (again)

The restaurant is by the pool area, and restaurant customers are welcome to stay for a swim. We opted for an espresso and dessert by the pool. Lovely.
