What an amazing place. The views are incredible. The staff are top of the line. It feels like you are a part of a family staying here. The late night drinks and free snacks are a great personal touch. I would highly recommend staying here!

Beautiful hotel with views of the Pacific Ocean. Private balconies , large rooms with pillow exchange and even a mattress option. Bathrooms are roomy as well. Best if you have your own vehicle since this hotel is up on the mountainside. Good restaurant and bar on site. Pool bar as well with nice views of the ocean. In the evening the howler monkeys are visible in a tree nearby and also a sloth. The is the option of a do your self laundry and also send out for your sweaty clothes from hikes in the park. Service was exceptional. Front desk staff very helpful and will offer great advice about the area. We really enjoyed our stay here for two days. Would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed for 4 nights the weekend before the 4th of July and it was a dream. We got in late at night and were given a free upgrade on our room which was a nice surprise. We used the hotel as a place to relax and base to explore Manuel Antonio--the beaches, the restaurants, the national park--and it was perfect. The staff were always there to help us, call taxis, make tour reservations, etc. with a smile on their faces. We really couldn't ask for anything more and cannot wait to go back!

We stayed in a deluxe king room for two nights at the recommendation of our travel agent.

After a long drive we arrived at 8:30 in the evening. Words to describe our initial impression of the lobby would include "posh", "sleek", "modern decor", and "boutique-y." Soon those words were replaced with "snobby" and "condescending."

The front desk clerk seemed put off that we arrived late (although at the same time as another couple). We inquired about the included breakfast in the morning and were initially told that, because it was served beginning at 7am and we were scheduled to be picked up at 7:05 we would not be able to eat in the morning. We later returned to the desk and found that we could "pre-order" breakfast and it would be brought to us when we wished (6:30am). I completed an order form and asked the desk clerk to check it. He said it was completed properly. The next morning we called the desk at 0648hrs when our breakfast still had not been delivered. We were then told that we did not complete the form and indicate whether it was to be delivered or if we were picking it up so they just assumed we would pick it up. They should have called the room if they were unsure. Instead, we ended up with a very rushed breakfast of a plate of fruit. We never saw the yogurt which was ordered. We spoke with one of the servers about the mix-up and he did tell us that he would consult with the desk clerk to remedy the situation for future guests.

The first night we were also told that a tour of the hotel would normally be offered but due to the late hour they would do that the next day. That never happened but we also never requested it again so I can't place that all on the staff.

We briefly freshened up and went back to the desk to inquire about dinner options. We were told that it was too late to eat at the hotel restaurant. I inquired about a specific option in town and was told that he could call a taxi for us to get there. When we got there we were told they also were closed. It would have been nice if the desk clerk could have recommended an open restaurant. Thankfully we had a great taxi driver who took us (at no additional cost) to an open restaurant.

Our room (#23) required us to walk through the lobby, up a tight circular stair case (not easy to navigate with luggage), down a long hallway, outside past the pool area, down another circular stairway, and down another hallway with a few more stairs. This is a very inconvenient layout. All of the flooring is a very nice-looking but slick tile. It was easy to slip because it would get wet from shoes and rain coming in through screens. The portion outside could at least be covered. It tends to rain in the rain forest and we got wet a few times.

The room itself was okay but for the money I'd expect a larger television, more than one very small luggage rack, and at least one dresser. We had three bags so we were forced to live out of suitcases on the floor. There was some shelving in the closet but no place to easily work out of a suitcase.

The ceiling-mounted air conditioner did not function properly. We called the desk at 11:30pm and we're told "no English". I took the remote back downstairs and in broken Spanish explained it was not working. I was given new batteries and dismissed (no offer to come to the room. I took it back to the room and it still didn't work. I returned to the desk and spoke with a different employee who immediately offered to come to the room. He was able to figure out that there is a power switch of sorts by the door. It's not labeled as being for the a/c. It has a door on it that apparently had been bumped. There were tissues inside which, with the door fully closed, would hold the power switch down. Once the tissues were readjusted, the power came back and the unit worked ok. At least we knew how to fix it.

Other issues....no refrigerator in the room. Apparently we could request one be brought to us. For two nights we decided it wasn't worth the hassle. Oh, make sure you don't dirty the white towels. Don't worry - you'll be reminded with a sign in the bathroom. The white towels should have been replaced some time ago. They were very scratchy. One of the sheets on the bed had a rip in it. Housekeeping should have caught this. There were no hooks in the bathroom to hang clothes or towels. Clothes stay damp in the humidity and somewhere to hang things would be helpful. They apparently have laundry facilities. There was a sign on the door indicating it cost $10.00 to wash and $10.00 to dry a load. One of the tiles in the bathtub surround was completely missing grout.

The owner thinks quite highly of himself with a biography indicating how much of a "world citizen" he is hanging on the hallway wall. Don't miss the photos of him with their famous guests.

Overall, we had the impression that we were supposed to feel lucky that we were guests of theirs. Every other place we went in Costa Rica we felt much more welcome. Had they billed themselves as a 3-star hotel I wouldn't have been so critical. Give me a Hampton any day over La Mansion.

CONGRATULATIONS on your FIRST Tripadvisor report! As owner I appreciate you taking the time to let the world know about our little deficiencies what happens when a guest checks in after the usual"normal" check in time (you checked in at 8:30PM+).

As you can see by the great majority of the other guest comments, we are usually rated "excellent or good". That does not mean we do not err at times. For that reason I, as the "world citizen who thinks too much of himself" have our receptionists hand out a personal Welcome Letter in case we slip.

The Welcome Letter states to contact me direct should something be amiss no matter what the issue. I would be willing to come down from my "High Perch in the
Sky" to solve your problems (this is a joke - I live on property just below your room down the "yellow brick road" so I can take tend to our guests personally should there be a need). Unfortunately, not at midnight when most of us are asleep and for a remote control. I NEVER HEARD FROM YOU during you entire stay.

Unfortunately (or rather fortunately), we operate a small 24 room "Boutique" style family-run hotel with one of the most beautiful views in the country with has an awesome staff that (as you can read elsewhere) provides as a rule, excellent and personalized service.

We are not a 24 room HAMPTON INN and for that you should have gone to the airport in San Jose should you have wanted this. We do not assign a rating to our hotel. That is left to others. As you will notice TripAdvisors users rate us 4 1/2 stars. Only GOD is 5 (or some cheaters) rate themselves 5 all the time. We are mortal and accept that sometimes we slip. However we do our darnest to resolve these issues but only IF YOU GIVE US THE CHANCE. If we can't we find other ways. We are here to please our guests.

Unfortunately, as a small family run hotel we have certain hours for breakfast (7am -10:30am), lunch (11:30am - 3PM and dinner (6pm - 9:30pm). The same goes for the Reception which, while open 24/7 is staffed by reception staff from 6am to 10am.

During the hours of 10pm to 6am we have in-house and an external security guard to tend to guest issues. I apologize that English is not their native language but rest assured that they try. You might have noticed that Spanish is the native language here.

In closing, I do apologize for your mishaps and will contact our outside linen-service about the "scratchy towels". I hope you had a chance to enjoy our "bright side" and enjoy some of our spectacular views and our abundant wild life.

Great hotel. The room was very large and clean. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and Manual Antonio Park. The service was excellent throughout the hotel. The staff was a tad formal and would have preferred they be more relaxed as we experienced in other areas of Costa Rica. The hotel is on a typical windy Costa Rican road. While you can walk to restaurants and shops I personally wouldn't walk this road. However, taxis were very abundant and not expensive. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Dear smcdaniel221,

We want to say thanks for your description about your days with us!

For us is so important to have comments from our recently guest so the rest of the world know how is our property in words of our new friends. This also helps others to make the right choice on their next trips.

In case of your comment about your feelings with our personal so formal, it is the first time we have this impression in one of our guest. One of our staff characteristics in T.A. reviewers has been how friendly and unique they are. Of course, your observation is welcome and we will find out about it.
