Avoid this hotel if you possibly can. We had originally booked to stay at the Plenio but had to move out due to lack of air conditioning (we had arrived on an unusually humid day and we ended up enjoying our short stay at the Plenio but by then our group had decided to check out).

We decided to check out the Parador for vacancies and enquired at the front desk. We had time to observe the staff while waiting to be shown available rooms. At best their attitude can be described as diffident and surly. There was a long queue of unhappy residents waiting at reception while members of staff promenaded round the lobby doing little but chat to their colleagues - one was kicking a crab round the lobby area towards the door - which sums up this hotel's attidude to its surrounding environment which affords it such healthy profits.

We were taken to view the rooms on a golf buggy round narrow steep passageways, something to consider if you are elderly or infirm. The resort was deserted and reminded me of the set from the TV series "The Prisoner". The rooms were clean and well appointed but nothing special, given the price.

We were told that there were premier and superior rooms available and, when we agreed to take these rooms, were then told that now only junior suites were available, at a much greater cost. When we phoned the reservations line we found that cheaper superior rooms were available in abundance. Surely some mistake?! Obviously they were trying to screw us for as much money as possible. We left disgusted at our treatment and booked into the Isimo Suites further down the road.

Incidentally, the poorly treated crab was devoured by a hungry igunana waiting in the bushes outside reception. Well at least we got to see some wildlife if nothing else. Seriously, if you don't want to be ripped off then avoid this place like the plague

Do not book the "garden rooms" - we were booked there by a travel agent and felt the room was similar to a "motel 6" and not on par with the rest of the resort. I was told by other guests that the better rooms were nicer but would not stay there again. Food mediocre. Not enough chairs by the pool.

After reading the last few reviews of this hotel, you would think it's awful. My family of four (2 girls ages 10 and 12) had a marvelous time during the Christmas holidays for four nights. We had a premium room, which had an amazing view. The room was very clean and spacious. We saw loads of wildlife from our balcony - squirrel monkeys, sloths, toucans, turkey vultures, etc. every day. The grounds of the hotel were also nice, my husband and I took a stroll and came across a group of capuchin monkeys. It was all very nice. My girls really enjoyed the pool area, we did not have any problems with our food orders. We had two dinners at the hotel and they were both very nice. I thought the staff were very professional, accomodating and friendly. They arranged a tour for us every day and we had an amazing time. Absolutely had a blast on the Safari Canopy tour. Granted the road going to the hotel is truly awful, but to us it just added a new dimension to our trip. We loved our stay.

This hotel and room were clean and the staff were friendly, and they greeted us with hot towels and cold drinks when we ckeched in. However, the problem with this hotel is its location. It is located at the end (1.2 mi) from the main road, and in the humidity, it is too far to walk. There was also a tremendous amount of construction on the road, which made walking dangerous. The hotel offered a free shuttle to the beach but would not stop at the top of the hill until we begged them. And the shuttle did not run very frequently. So this meant that we had to take a $5 cab ride to the everytime we left the hotel. Other hotels in Manuel Antonio are on the main road so you could walk or take a bus. The restaurant at the hotel was extremely overpriced and the food was not very good. If we wanted to eat somewhere else, yep, you guessed it, another $5 cab ride. On a positive note, the grounds were lovely, and there is a private beach a short walk down the road. The pool bar was really nice and we enjoyed the bullfrogs and crabs covered the grounds at night.
