We enjoyed our recent stay at the Parador Resort & Spa travelling with two adults and two teens (ages 13 & 16). The service was good and the greeting you receive when you arrive (a cool drink and towel) is very welcoming. We stayed in a Premium Guest Room (#413) with 2 queen beds (seemed more like doubles). The room itself was small, very basic and outdated. It was really too cramped for two adults and two teenagers. Less than I would expect at a resort. it did have a mini fridge which was nice. The water pressure in the shower was great. The balcony and grassy area off the balcony had amazing views of the ocean, pool and surrounding forest. The outdoor incline elevator to the room was charming and fun. Look for the black iguanas on the rock hill around the elevator.
The free breakfast buffet is excellent with a wide assortment of choices. Nobody should be hungry after breakfast. We had the dinner buffet as well which was very good but pricey. Meals in general in this area of Costa Rica are pricey so expect it.
The grounds were well maintained and beautiful. The on-site nature trails through the lush rainforest offer spectacular views and plentiful wildlife. Definitely wear your hiking shoes and bring your camera. Some of the trails are demanding (which we loved). We only used one pool as the other two are adults only. The family pool was refreshing with great views but no hot tub.
We felt a highlight of staying at this resort is the nearby beach a short distance from the hotel. The hotel provides towels for the beach at the front desk. You walk down the road from the hotel entrance and then take a dirt path through the forest to a beautiful secluded beach. It is breathtaking. Very natural, peaceful and wild. It’s in a cove and great for swimming & exploring. My teens loved it. Wear good shoes for the walk.
Wildlife at and around the hotel is abundant. We saw various types of birds, reptiles and monkeys (including a group of endangered squirrel monkeys). The highlight was a large boa constrictor eating a large iguana.
We used the tour desk next to the family pool to book a catamaran tour. It was one of the best tours we took in Costa Rica and very affordable ($55/person including dinner) .
The hotel has free WiFi. However, it was a bit sporadic in our room and worked best in the bathroom.
Overall, I would give this resort 4-1/2 stars and not 5 only because the room interior was small and basic.
The Manuel Antonio area of Costa Rica is a magical place and the Parador is a great place to enjoy the magic. We would love to come back.
