This hotel has amazing views over the Pacific. Rooms are quite basic but excellent value for money, when compared with others in the area. Close to the park beaches and restaurants.

We stayed here in low season and had the place to ourselves. The manager couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.

A basic understanding of Spanish would help if staying here during low season.

We arrived and were greeted by a very gracious inn keeper. The views are amazing. The grounds well kept. The pool is clean and cool. The rooms vary in size but all have fabulous decks that overlook the ocean. The rooms have kitchenettes that make breakfast and lunch simple. The rooms are clean but a little rustic if you are an "everything should be brand new" kind of person. There are steps between levels but not a problem for us. We've seen monkeys, all sorts of birds, pacas, lots of butterflies and bats just from the deck. Plenty of restaurants nearby. We walked to the park-just down the hill. Fabulous price. We paid $60 a night in off season. You can hardly stay in a hotel on the freeway in the states for that! I would definitely stay here again!

This place is about 1km or so from the park entrance. Note that there is no sidewalk from time to time. Bus/taxi is the alternative. The villa is about 150m to the beach below, if you trespass through the ground of the other hotel below. It is a steep walk. There are a few restaurants up the hill that is within walking distance.

Similar to Heather's review below, we rang the bell when we arrived by the main road and the Spanish-speaking employee came up. With our limited Spanish and his limited English, he managed to show us where the hotel parking is by getting into the car with us.

He then showed us Room 5 first, the room with a great view, slightly larger, I think, and is the closest to the parking but it is more costly. He then showed us Room 3, the room that we booked. The view was still great, but it was higher up with more stairs to climb - which was fine for travelers going by bus/taxi. But for those with their own car and has heavy wheeled luggage, it can be difficult. We took Room 3 at the end. The interesting part was that our credit card was already charged based on the price of the more expensive Room 5, and we were refunded of the difference in cash.

The room itself is fine with a double and a single bed and has a functional kitchenette with utensils and a covered pan. You can get limited and more expensive grocery from the mini-supermarket in Manuel Antonio "town" higher up the hill, or head down to Maxi Pali just outside of Quepos for the larger department store-like supermarket.

The front porch is the best part of the room as it is facing the sea and has a hammock and a swinging chair, and a couple of chairs and a table which is perfect for breakfast! The bathroom is ok. The shower has hot water. If it doesn't, play with the switches on the shower head. It has 3 settings: off, warm and hot.

We saw some monkeys and birds from the porch. The view was great although we didn't see the sunset as it seemed to set behind the hill from our viewpoint. The swimming pool is a real gem in this kind of weather!

I think this is a nice little place to stay in, although I wish it is closer to the beach and more restaurants. I guess the pool and the seaview make up for it.

Pros
- Amazing view of the ocean from a large patio
- Clean room which was nicely decorated - not lavish but nice
- Small kitchen
- Swimming pool
- Staff was very helpful and attentive
- Felt very safe
- Lots of wildlife - birds, monkeys all around
- Excellent location - midway on the Manuel Antonio hill so close to both the beach and the restaurants - local bus goes up and down the hill on a very frequent basis so it's easy to get around
Cons
- It's not a traditional hotel with a front desk, etc. so you have to be okay mostly on your own
- Shower did have hot water, but it didn't function that well

Room Tip: Ensure your room is one of the ones that's higher up and located on the hill so that you are gua...

We arrived at the Villas De La Selva, rang the bell for some assistance and could not understand the person over the intercom. Two hotel employees finally came up to greet us, and they did not speak any English - so we could not communicate. We were off to a rocky start.

We soon learned that you must take the car down a small private road to the hotel parking lot and office to check in. To make finding the office easier, this info should be on the driving instructions on the hotels web-site.

We checked into our room: the Casa. It is a two room unit with a kitchen area and a patio with a view. What an AMAZING VIEW!!!! The kitchen was adequate. Guests are required to clean up the kitchen after themselves. The balcony was a amazing - hammocks included. The bedrooms were adequate and simple. Although, the web-site says that the main room has 1 king and 1 single bed in it - this was not the case - there was only a king size bed in it. The bathroom was very small and very old. You must go thru the master bedroom to get to the bathrom. There was A/C in both bedrooms, but no A/C in the kitchen area. We discovered that the hot water in the shower did not work and the owner, Irene, got right on it.

There were two restaurants within walking distance: La Cantina and Raphael's Terraza. Both were good for dinner. There is not much else within walking distance.

The jacuzzi was lukewarm.

And you are given one towel per person per day - this towel is for the beach, pool and showering. More towels would be helpful - so you are not using a sandy towel to dry off after you shower.

We have been lucky enough to find this hidden gem 3 years ago & have been back every year since. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Manuel Antonio. Irene was fantastic helping us out with fishing trips & day trips or anything else we needed. Beach at the end of the canopy tree line or a refreshing dip in the crystal clear pool with hot tub. Can't wait to see the monkey visits, the sun, & the relaxation at VILLA DE LA SELVA!

Room Tip: All the rooms have a fantastic view!
