“HERE WE COME AGAIN!!”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

We have been lucky enough to find this hidden gem 3 years ago & have been back every year since. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Manuel Antonio. Irene was fantastic helping us out with fishing trips & day trips or anything else we needed. Beach at the end of the canopy tree line or a refreshing dip in the crystal clear pool with hot tub. Can't wait to see the monkey visits, the sun, & the relaxation at VILLA DE LA SELVA!

Room Tip: All the rooms have a fantastic view!

This 7 room hotel is beautifully situated overlooking the beautiful Pacific just south of Quepos. Rooms are well done and the view is spectacular! I think a bit pricey for the area but it's worth it. No breakfast but the rooms have small kitchenettes in them so it's easy to make do.
Pool is large, deep and nicely done...beautiful tropical paintings on the walls, nice water fall from jacuzzi to pool giving a wonderful ambiance.

Great restaurant withing walking distance. Nothing else close by but the hotel is on the main road so I would guess a taxi would be available. We had a car so it made things a bit easier. Without a car the lower rooms and pool could be a problem for those with walking difficulties...lots of steps.

The only concern we have is that they accept ONLY cash and NO receipt is given. There is very little service but the tranquility makes up for the inconveniences. Will definately stay again when in this area.

Pura vida from Thumbsup

Room Tip: # 5 is a great room for 2 people

We enjoyed every second of our stay in villas de la selva! The hotel consists of several beautiful cabins in different sizes. All of them have terraces with a magnificient view (the sunset is absolutely magic). Troups of spider monkeys come to visit you once our twice on your terrace if you feed them banana. The pool is nice and clean and the beach is fantastic. Doña Irene who owns the place is fluent in Spanish, German and English and helped us tremendously by booking great trips to other parts of Costa Rica for us. We spend a lot more days there than we had planned because we liked it so much and we will definetely return to villas de la selva one day.

We had a wonderful and unforgettable time at the VILLAS DE LA SELVA!!!
The hotel with its tropical garden, a swimming pool and close to the beach (3 minutes walkway) was perfect for us to relax and escape the everyday.

The location of the hotel is great , we had a SPECTACULAR, BREATHTAKING VIEW !!! from our terrace down to the beach (see foto).
Our cabin (with kitchenette, big terråace, air-condition and a safe) was very clean and well maintained. The service-team was very friendly and attentive.

The owner, Mrs. Irene, was adorable and always at our disposal; she helped us organizing our tours in the surroundings and gave us valuable tips. She booked the bus-transfers and helped us finding the right locations.

We ´ll come back next year (si dios quiere!)

Room Tip: As far as we saw, all rooms have a wonderful view to the beach.

We absolutely loved this place. Our wooden door opened on to a balcony with a view of what seemed like the entire Pacific Ocean. The room was spare but the beds were comfortable. The pool was great and we found the path down to the full length of Espadilla beach. Alfredo who is there for you every moment turned out to be a great person. Every day he brought out bananas for the monkeys and we were thrilled as troops of both white faced capucins and the rare squirrel monkeys visited us. We also saw agoutis and leaf cutter ants on the property. Maybe the only drawback was the owner who was there part of the time we were there and continually tried to push tours on us. She is well meaning though but we were happier when she went back to San Jose.

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed good. We had one of the cheaper rooms and still had a balcony overlooking the o...

We stopped along the road to Manuel Antonio at this unassuming property to inquire about a room after finding out that the property we had reserved was inaccessible by two wheel drive vehicles ( which we were driving) . We looked at a room that was satisfactory and had a spectacular view of the ocean. We stayed for four days and found the place to be fine for our needs. It was inexpensive, had a refrigerator, fry pan, sink, dishes for two. With a food store close by we had no problem. Breakfast on our little porch one mornig was interrupted by a troop of monkeys. Owner and staff were very accommodating.

I almost passed up this great place because of some questionable reviews I'd read but it was the highlight of our trip. If you're looking for a standard luxury hotel room, this isn't it. But if you enjoy a smaller place with a great feel for the outdoors, this is perfect. Rooms come with a large fridge, blender, toaster oven, and electric frying pan. Unlike many hotels in Costa Rica, there is no breakfast included. But we were able to prepare great meals - and eat them on the gorgeous balcony. A very comfortable lounge chair and hammock complemented the incomparable view of the ocean. Stairs are steep and balcony railings have wide open spaces - so it's probably not for little kids or those with physical limitations. A gorgeous warm pool and jacuzzi which we had all to ourselves. Monkeys passed through the property every day - on cables right in front of our balcony. Big iguanas add some local color. Plenty of birds to see as you're above many of the trees. The gorgeous beach is a short walk down a rather steep hill. We never went to the national park - we had plenty of wildlife and beach right at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The woman who runs the place is tremendous - even took my wife to a great out-of-the-way place to get her hair done. There's only about 8 rooms, so it's a very managable size. If you like morning sun, I'd suggest room 4, but all the rooms have great views. There are tons of great restaurants nearby and plenty of opportunities to walk. AC in the room, too, if it gets too hot. We will definitely be back in the future!
