We really enjoyed our tour with Roy. He took extra time to make sure we saw everything we wanted to see. He even lead us to a troup of Cappuchi monkies after the tour was supposed to be over. It is clear that he loves his work, his family, and life in Costa Rica. We took him for lunch at his favourite local restaurant Marlins and it was delicious. We saw pictures on his phone of his artwork and he is very tallented!

We have just returned to New Zealand after a three week trip to Costa Rica. The attractions were many but the incredible biodiversity had to be at the top of our list. Having so little time and lacking any real experience of the neo tropics a guide was an absolute essential. We were very fortunate to have chosen Roy Orozco for our eight day birding trip.
We quickly realised that, for Roy, birding is so much more than a job, it is a passion. What does he do in his spare time? You've guessed it. He goes birding and travels widely throughout Costa Rica to do so. As a client you do get the benefit of this wide experience, gathered over a period of fourteen plus years.Roy has an impressive array of skills. With so many species to know, each with their own set of calls and sometimes quite minor differences in appearance, Knowing the avifauna is a major task. No problem for Roy, he recognises them all, and is able to locate them for you. In just a few seconds his scope is deployed and locked on. You begin to suspect that he has "special powers"! Technologically Roy is very savvy. We have some wonderful digiscope imagery of some rather special birds. His bird mimicry proved very useful in enticing birds out from the shadows and into the light so that we could see them. This skill was ably backed up by his extensive sound library of bird calls. Those elusive wrens proved particularly susceptible! We were additionally impressed by his ability to explain the significant identification points for each species.
Roy has the complete skill set when it comes to birding. He arranged a great itinerary and we stayed in some incredible locations. Our enduring memory however is of Roy's delightful sense of humour. He is a thoughtful and considerate companion, dedicated to his task and has total integrity. We based our entire visit to Costa Rica around this birding expedition and Roy even helped us to locate a place to stay at either end of the trip. That is a lot of faith to place in one man but it was not misdirected. Everything exceeded our expectations. We chose wisely and, as a special bonus, we have gained a new friend!

We are a family of 5 with children ages 8 to 17. Our first trip to Costa Rica we wanted to discover the natural beauty of this country. Roy was amazing and certainly helped us gain an appreciation of Manual Antonio State Park!!! The monkeys, snakes, lizards, deer, birds, spiders, plants to eat, smell and enjoy from a distance. A lovely snack at the beautiful beach. Roy is a wonderful and very talented individual!! We even bought one of his paintings to remind us of our lovely experience with him and Costa Rica!!
