Well honestly, I tried to get Johan Caves, but failed. He was unavailable. Jade tours was a close 2nd. Mario was great! Yes, he has to deal with large tours, but he does a great job!!!!! We were part of 14, and it was fine. The walk into the park was awesome with lots of stops to see critters. / wildlife. My only complaint was the walk out. Nothing interesting. Nothing but walking 1 1/2 miles out of the park. It sounds nice now, BUT when you're there, you just want to die. It's sooooooo HOT. Check out the exact location in relationship to the equator on a good globe, or map. Mario set a fast pace that I could NOT keep up with. I'm sorry, but I have to mention this. I came out of the park like 3 mins after Mario. To My Amazement, no less than 4 people came up after me. Just an FYI. Do not feel defective if you're not 18 years old!!!!! Overall, great tour Mario!!!!!

Having been in Costa Rica for almost a week and a half and we were skeptical about whether or not we wanted to do more nature tours. We ended up booking the night Rainmaker and the night mangrove tour and boy are we glad we did! The price for the tours included pick-up and drop-off at where you are staying and a traditional Costa Rican meal at his friend's restaurant (one of the best Costa Rican meals we had, though we didn't have many to compare it to).

Mario is not only extremely knowledgeable, professional and able to spot EVERYTHING (side note about this, we had done the MA National Park tour with someone else and we didn't know it was him at the time, but we remember Mario spotting so many things before anyone else), but so passionate and absolutely loves not just animals, but all of nature. We have been on many tours where the guides were very knowledgeable, but the really great experiences are when they as passionate as Mario is.

Night Rainmaker: It was a very personal tour for us as we were the only ones. What an experience to walk around in darkness and hear the sounds of nature and the rush of water around you. Every time Mario would spot something, we would exclaim as if it was his first time seeing it. We saw many of the snakes, lizards, frogs, spiders, etc that others have mentioned, but the real thrill was walking the suspension bridges. What an experience!

Night Mangrove: Again, we were the only ones on this tour and this was the real highlight for us. When we got to the boat with Mario, we were met by Macha, the crocodile hunter, and his wife (sorry, can't remember her name!) who drove the boat. In the beginning, Mario was telling us about Macha wrestling full grown crocodiles and bringing them on board. The next thing we know, Macha leans over the boat and comes up holding an 18 inch baby crocodile! It was squeaking and squirming, but Mario and Macha will very careful and gentle with it. After we got to hold it and take pictures with it, Macha put the crocodile back where he had found it. Though Macha wasn't able to find any larger crocodiles, we did see a handful of other babies. Throughout the ride we also saw different snakes (boas and vipers), birds, bats, sloths and others. Mario got REALLY excited when he saw a certain poisonous snake (the type is escaping me) that he said he rarely sees. Towards the end of the tour, Mario had Macha's wife turn the boat off and we just sat and took all the sounds of nature in. What a pleasure it was.

We hired Jade Tours for a walk throughManuel Antonio. Mario was informative and helpful. He was especially kind to our two-year-old daughter. He is very knowledgable. The hike was perfect length for our kids and 70 year old grandpa. We all enjoyed the swim at the beach. There are clean changing rooms and showers.
One small detail. The hotel had told is the guide would bring water and there would be snacks half way through. However, the guide asked us to buy our own water and the snack was at the end-- no big deal, but just be aware if you have small kids with you.
The snack was lovely at the end. We sat at a cafe and had juice, fruit, and cookies.
Mario was prompt and professional.

We had a great time visiting the park and Mario from Costa Rica Jade tours was the best. Mario has a wealth of knowledge that added a lot of educational information about what we're seeing.
Saw a bunch of monkeys, sloths, stick bird, insects, frog and many other animals. Best time to visit is in the early morning, with Monday morning being the least crowded.

Mario, is a hidden gem in Costa Rica. He is extremely knowledgeable and so passionate about what he does. We did a mangrove tour with our two kids (12 and 8) and loved it. If we had gone on our own or with a different guide, it would have been like a drive through. In fact we saw some other boats zipping though, completely missing all the cool and rare things Mario was pointing out to us. Mario's keen knowledge of the area and the animals and plants makes it a unique experience. We highly recommend him.
