“Absolutely loved Los Altos! Great for a group of friends”
Reviewed August 15, 2011

Los Altos is one of the most beautiful hotels that I have ever stayed at. The apartments are huge and gorgeous! I went with a group of friends and it worked out perfectly. The grounds are beautiful, we saw monkeys almost everyday. The pool is AMAZING. We spent a lot of time lounging poolside with some great pina coladas and gazing at the horizon. The staff were super friendly and helped us coordinate a bunch of activities including white water rafting, zip lining, and a catamaran tour. All in all, this was a great trip and I would definitely come back to stay here.

Service: My title of my review is based on the service, as it was hit or miss. As we checked in, we had a female that wasn't very pleasant during the whole check in process, our group all agreed. Well we ended having to deal with her the entire trip and she never did lighten up. Someone at the front desk should always being bright and cheery, and she made our stay less pleasant because when we would arrive back to the resort, she would never crack a smile.

On another note, Jonathon made our experience at Los Altos wonderful. Always very pleasant, went the extra mile to shuttle us down to the beach even though his time had expired. He always was very accommodating throughout our stay.

Caesar the security guard was always bright and smiley to help us find monkey and sloths for us. He was able to spot things and show us. That's going the extra mile for a security guard.

Room: The room at the resort was amazing. The decor of the room was fantastic, from paintings to furniture, it was top notch. We enjoyed the full kitchen and space that we had within the room. Having a 3 bedroom suite was perfect for our group.

One gripe is when you stay at a nice resort like Los Altos, you would expect decent towels in the rooms. It may be Costa Rica, but the towels felt like they were from a Holiday Inn hotel, nothing fancy.

Location and Amenities: The location was top notch! Right in the middle of town Within minutes you could walk to the store. We ate at Cafe Milagro a couple of times, food was fantastic. We also walked over Barba Roja and the food there was awesome too. The bank was close, so when needed was easy to access.

The pool at the resort was really nice, it over look the jungle and sea! They included a breakfast every morning that was nice to have included in the cost.

Best & Least:
Best - Jonathon, Location, The Room
Least - The female at the front desk, the additional charge for $75 per person.

By the way, we paid $75 per additional person (two included). I don't see how maid service and breakfast made up the cost. We actually skipped a day on maid service so i guess that's were they make out.

I knew how great Los Altos was going to be before we got there (thanks, TA!) For the same price as a top end hotel room, where all of us would be crammed into one room with resultant snoring and sloppiness arguments, we got a luxurious, modern, brand new 3 bedroom apartment with balconies, flat screen tv, good wifi, great rain showerheads, great A/C, and super staff. Jonder and his crew do a great job setting up tours, dinners, answering questions, etc., and are always there with an answer and a smile. And Cesar at the front gate always pointed out the many perezosos (sloths), monos congo (howler monkeys) and monos titis (Squirrel monkeys) that scamper through the trees by the restaurant and pool. Karola's is also a very good restaurant, the complimentary breakfast was also great. All around,a super property with great location and staff.

Room Tip: Higher up, the better view, but they're all good!

My husband & I just came back from staying at this wonderful hotel for 5 days.We had a 3 bedroom, totally contemporary, handsomely furnished apartment on the 6th floor, overlooking the beach and jungle.I can't say enough about how pleased we were. From the moment we checked in,until we checked out,the staff we so friendly and accomodating. We came early,so we had to wait.Had lunch at Karolas(their open air restaurant),where my husband had seared tuna every day, which he said was the freshest he ever had.Breakfast is included, also at Karolas. The pool setting at the bottom of the hill overlooking the ocean is gorgeous. Each apartment has a view, and at night there are some amazing sunsets. The first morning I was on the porch and saw a family of monkeys in the tree.We took a day tour to Manuel Antonio Park, since the last time we were there was 5 years ago.Every day I looked forward to coming back to the apartment,it felt like home.I've been to Costa Rica many times, and this new hotel is my new favorite. The staff knows your name right away, and are always available for any request. The only negative thing that happened was the first day.,We didnt know there was a wedding,we were sitting at the pool(my husband was swimming),and "the wedding planner"told me to leave, that it was reserved. We werent told about it by anyone, but the manager sent us up some nice fruit and cheese plates, and a bottle of wine. That woman wasnt part of the hotel, and after that I still had my great vibe from this wonderful hotel

Room Tip: All the apartments are 3 bedrooms

We stayed here with our young children. The flats are amazing! They are as beautiful (if not more) than the pictures online demonstrate. Our flat has an amazing ocean view, three huge bedrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. It's very centrally located to restaurants, the park and more. The pool is average sized. The beach you need to have transportation to, which they provide. We are here in low-season, so having only one pool is fine for us. It's also shallow, which is great for kids/weak swimmers. The staff is extremely helpful - so nice. If you are looking for an all-inclusive hotel, though, where you never have to leave this isn't it. There is one restaurant, Karoloas, which we found to be over-priced and bad food. With a full kitchen, you can easily make breakfast and lunch in your flat and go out for nice dinners within walking distance. It would be nice, though, to have more restaurants and a snack bar at the pool. They will come and bring you food from the restaurant, but it's not what I expected. Lastly, the service is great. They can help (for free) with all tours, advice, call the grocery store for you and have the food delivered. Maid service comes every day. There are so nice and helfpul - big thank you to Jonathan, in particular.

We stayed here the beginning of May for 5 nights. We reserved this through a site called Luxury Link where you can get very deep discounts. We were upgraded to a higher floor with three bedroom and three baths and beautiful views of the pool area and ocean.

The staff is superb, especially Joanathan and Enzo who helped with our excursions and drivers. I highly recommend the sailing through Sunset Sailing... we did it twice....great food and snorkeling.

With our package came a continental breakfast and we were pleasantly surprised to see that included eggs, fruit, rice and beans, cereal, juice, coffee and assorted breads. Our package also included one dinner at Karolas and it was superb. Mariposo is within walking distance and we had caiphirinas and dinner there another night..

My only negative, and it is a small one, is that the air should have been turned on prior to our arrival as the condo was quite hot and stuffy. We were also charged for the included massage, but my husband caught the mistake and it was removed from the bill.

A reminder to all to leave tips for the maids as they work so hard to keep everything immaculate. I have framelss shower doors at home and know how hard they are to keep clean!

I got married at Los Altos and stayed in the condo five nights. If you are considering Los Altos for a wedding venue I would highly recommend it. First I will list some things I wish I knew prior to making the arrangements.

-All the rooms are three bedroom condos. They charge based on occupancy. So for just two people you are getting a whole lot of space.

-The elevator system is very complicated. They give you one key, even if there are six people staying in the condo. The best thing to do is to keep it at the front desk. We ran in to the most problems when we wanted to visit other guests' rooms. That is a very frustrating process because you can't just go to a room and knock on the door. All condos open up from the elevator so you have to go to the main floor and then send the elevator there and hope your guests make it to your room.

-The beach is a VERY steep walk and is a very small area even at low tide. The golfcart wasn't functioning when we were there so we walked and it was a great workout. (we decided the pool area was much easier access for guests to get to ceremony)

-Not much wildlife was seen on the property.

Besides these little issues we had an amazing wedding there. The service is excellent and Karola's was a beautiful and romantic spot for the reception. A huge thanks to the chef, John, and all the super friendly servers. The food was really good...don't miss the ceviche!

The pool area is really nice with a gorgeous view of the ocean...lots of kids playing in the pool. This is definitely a great place for families. If you are looking for a romantic getaway this might not be the best choice but for groups and families it is a wonderful choice. The condos are beautifully designed and have a fully equipped kitchen. The location is good in that it is close to many restaurants and bars, but don't expect to walk to Manuel Antonio Park it is pretty far and there are no sidewalks. Overall it was a dream wedding in paradise.
