“Had Our Own Iguana”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

Well, actually the iguana was on a tree just off our balcony. We stayed at the San Bada as part of a Caravan tour. I love the hotel, it was beautiful. It put me in mind of something I might see in Morocco ( not that I have ever been there! ) Our room was very nice and the balcony looked out over the edge of the Manuel Antonio National Park. Watch out for aggressive monkeys!
I would like to have had a bath tub but there was only a shower. Super A.C, a room safe, free wi-fi, a fridge, a king bed and high wood panelled ceilings rounded out our room. Housekeeping folds the towels into origami animal shapes.
Others had complained of buggy rooms but we saw no bugs. In fact the whole time I was in Costa Rica I got only one bug bite. There was only one elevator but did not present a problem. I think maybe during the high season it might make a difference.
Our stay a San Bada was only one day. I would have loved to have stayed longer. The hotel sits at the gate to the Manuel Antonio NP with its rainforest and lovely beaches. There were lots of shops, hotels and restaurants in the immediate area. Definitely worth a visit.

We spent a couple nights at the San Bada. It was a lovely hotel, lovely room, great view, giant bathroom and IT'S RIGHT NEXT TO THE ENTRANCE TO THE MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK! For that reason alone I would highly recommend it. The fact that it is a very nice place is icing on the cake. I notice someone mentioned a peculiar odor and I did too, but once the patio door was opened it went away. There was a nice pool although we didn't visit it, it would be great for kids, complete with a nice big slide. There is also a bar on the roof where you have an amazing view of the sunset.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a view so don't fret.

Our Caravan guide refused to tell us the color of the San bada, only saying before arrival that it was a unique color. For sure. A majestic mustard color palace rising up to overlook the Manuel Antonio Park nearby, and the Pacific in the distance.
Each room has a balcony with comfortable chairs . was a bit too hot for us to sit out but would be nice in the evening. We only stayed one night.
There is everything you need in each room, except a coffee pot. BUT, take the elevator to the 6th floor and coffee brewing for you! Breakfast at the Congo next door was great.
There was bit of a bug spray smell when we entered the room, but it is not surprising that they need to control insects . It is the jungle after all. Clearly , from some of the previous reviews, it appears that guests are freaked out by little bugs, so the management no doubt feels compelled to treat the rooms.
If going to Manuel Antonio park, recommend going out at 7 am as there are lots more people starting around 9. Although we did not have a naturalist guide, we passed several with groups, and they did appear to see things we did not spot. Might be a good idea to hire a guide. We saw white-faced monkeys, agoutis, lizards and a cacomistle, similar to the raccoon. Howler monkeys heard in the distance but not seen. Walk out to Cathedral Point, beautiful view over Pacific.

Room Tip: We were in 408. No howler monkeys to wake is up at 4 am, much to my chagrin. The room was great!

We spent 4 days a San Bada the last week of April. We had our own car and parking was plentiful at the hotel (and free!). What made our stay the most enjoyable was Jorge the food and beverage manager! He went out of his way to make our trip very enjoyable (even pointed out a sloth in the trees for us) . We enjoyed a beautiful dinner on night complete with a perfect bottle of wine that he selected. Breakfast was a good and included in our stay. The rooftop bar and pool had a nice view and Sylvia our bartender/server was lovely. The shower was nice and strong. In general, the location is best for people planning on visiting the rainforest park.

Hotel convenient to Manuel Antonio. Nice Caravan Tour welcome on the roof! Good service for problem with in-room safe. Hotel needs updated, peculiar odor in room. Problem with A/C, but taken care of right away. No in-room coffee. Outdoor format for restaurant & lots of aggravating bugs present at breakfast. Only one night here, left on a rainy, rainy day. Manager was most attentive to the group.

Very friendly staff and management. Good food, we had some of the best beef on this trip in their restaurant. Spectacular roof top pool and bar with a nice sunset view of the Pacific. Nice beach as well. As you exit the hotel driveway you will see the park entrance on the right. About a kilometer through the jungle to the park"s beach. On the way to the beach you will see Howler monkeys, sloths, a large variety of birds and plants.

Went with my family for a three day vacation to Manuel Antonio, the frontdesk staff was so courteous and helpful. The pool was clean and our kids had a blast on the slide. The location is a big hit for San Bada, next to the beautiful park and close to everything. We didnt use the spa but we had dinner one night and we loved the fresh mahi mahi ceviche and the fruti di mare pasta. Overall it was a nice vacation in this amazing resort! Thumbs up for the hotel and staff
