The hotel is right next to the Manuel Antonio Park and short walk to the beach. That was good...but the bug bites made the stay rough. Constant buzzing around our heads at night and couldn't swat fast enough. Staff was friendly, especially Michael at breakfast. Room was a little dark and couldn't stay on first floor balcony for the swarms of Mosquitos. Glad it was only 2 nights. Stayed in other hotels to check them out in the area with no bug issues.

Dear Bruce B,

We are sorry to hear that you had some bug issues; however we are skeptic about your review. All our rooms are revised by our housekeeping staff before check in, also we turn on the air conditioning before check in, we use screen doors at the balcony, and the principal room door has draught excluder, so it sounds almost incredible how the bugs did manage to enter your room, at this point we respectfully think that your comment is not from a guest that experienced our services or stayed in our rooms.

In the other hand, if you stayed at the Resort why you did not reported this issue to us, we did not received any word from you during the time you supposedly stayed at our Hotel. We think this is one of the issues that must be addressed immediately to sleep well.

One last thing is the picture you posted of your arms bitten, for all our respectful tripadvisor readers, note that the setting of the picture this reviewer took was in a restaurant that belongs to another Hotel in the area, in which I see this reviewer also posted a review of 5 points.

We think reviews like this, are not the idea of what tripadvisor is really about, real travelers experience, this one particular is suspicious and the evidence is that the content is not consistent from a real guest experience, also with the picture which was taken in another Hotel.

For all our tripadvisor readers at Hotel San Bada all our staff strives to give the best customer service and to help you to enjoy a remarkable experience during your vacations at this piece of Paradise, so during your stay you are more than welcome to approach to our representatives to assist you and make your experience better.

Warm regards,

Your friends at Hotel San Bada

Was here 4 nights. This place is great. New hotel, built up over a few years level by level, now the 6th floor is open with a pool on top and a bar and great views of the canopy and Manuel Antonio Nat Park. Kids can't go in this 6th floor pool or be in this area. The main pool on the ground level is big, and great for the kids, it has a swim up bar, a water slide and there is a hot tub. Rooms are big enough, decked out in dark wood, nice look. The hotel gate is right next to the main entrance of MA park, where the beaches are better (than the public beach) and where you can stroll and see wild-life (monkeys everywhere). Park fee is $10 for adult tourists, kids are free up to at least 11. Breakfast was really good (included) I did not eat dinner there. Easy walk to a few restaurants in the town but most stuff in the town is 20-30 minutes away, this is on the far end of Manuel Antonio.

Last year my wife and I stayed in Jaco and we loved Costa Rica so we decided to take our two kids (10 and 7) this year, closer to Manuel Antonio so the kids could enjoy the rainforest as well as the beach. Our stay was from June 24-July 1. We picked Hotel San Bada due to its proximity to the beach and rainforest. You literally can't get any closer to the rainforest than this hotel. Our driver, Mauricio, picked us up from the airport. He was great! Very professional, yet laid back. He stopped for us to get some mangos, Cacique and see some crocodiles. The Hotel was stunning with a great pool that never gets too deep for the kids and they also loved the water slide. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet. Service was excellent. Christian took us to the waterfalls and a real home cooked meal on a Polaris ATV and horseback. Christian was great fun and down-to-earth. We also had fun going on the snorkeling tour as well. The spa was very relaxing too. The rooms were very nice too. This is how responsive the hotel is to keep its clientele happy. I spoke with the owner Dante who, not only knew my name, but when I told him that it would be a great idea to get recycle bins on the floors of the hotel, several days later he sent me pictures of beautiful recycle bins right where I suggested he place them to help encourage guests to recycle. It made me feel wonderful that I picked such a great place to share with my kids and give them the best experience possible.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the greater the view.

Myself, my husband and son stayed here - couldn't fault the staff or the location - really excellent. Hotel itself is clean, with wonderful views. Its located right beside the National Park entrance and we had great views of wild-life without having to even enter the park. Its a 5 minute walk through a somewhat dirty alley to a busy part of the beach - but if you want quiet, you just have to walk 5 minutes up the beach. Mediocre (and relatively high priced) restaurants are close by - however the food and service in their own restaurant is excellent (as is the wine list!). The rooms are basic and small for families with older children which is the main criticism and the front desk were not too helpful in sorting any other options out - which meant a very cramped stay! Ideal for younger families cos of the pool and slide etc..... For couples and older families - if you want to be close to the park - this is the hotel to choose. Overall the hotel is fine if you are there for a couple of nights but not great for extended stays......

Dear Caroline,

Thank you for staying at Hotel San Bada and for sharing your opinion!

Yes indeed as mentioned in your review we pride ourselves by our location, for the nice and clean rooms, good priced and delicious food served at our restaurants and more important by our service. All our staff are well trained and striving to help and give the best service possible. For that reason, we passed your review to our daily operations meeting in order to comment it and share your words to everyone, because guest satisfaction is something we want to achieve with each person that stays at our beautiful resort.

For other tripadvisor readers, our Hotel is located at the end of the road to Manuel Antonio National Park, just right next to it, that makes our Resort as mentioned by Caroline, a very quiet and convenient place for families, couples and seniors. The sounds of the waves and the wildlife jungle can be heard from your rooms.

The standard room accommodations includes a private balcony with garden or jungle view, 2 double beds, comfortable bed fitted with 300 thread count linens, air conditioning, 32inch lcd cable tv, mini fridge (mini bar upon request), complimentary in room coffee, free WiFi, radio alarm clock, telephone, safety deposit box, laundry service and iron or iron board are available on request. Guest rooms also have private spacious bathrooms with rainy shower and hairdryer. Each room can host 4 people maximum. Maybe at your case the best solution was to use this room or blocked 2 rooms, one for the parents and another for the older children for more comfort.

Thanks again for choosing our Hotel and we hope to welcome you back in the near future!

Pura vida!

Location is excellent! The proximity to the park and public beach are great! Pools are nice, food is good, staff is pleasant. We did not end up taking any tours-just relaxing on this leg of our trip.

We heard that the villa vainilla your was awesome but they did not have spots open when we tried to book. So book ASAP.

Beware that the Park is closed Mondays so you may want to plan your stay accordingly.

We did see a lot of wildlife at the hotel. Our balcony looked out on a gross looking wetland, but we spent a few hours watching the unusual wildlife there. Snakes in the trees, snakes in the water eating frogs, huge crabs crawling around, massive iguanas in the trees, lizards everywhere. Birds killing snakes... Other guests told us they had seen 4 different species of monkeys from the pool.

I would come back for sure!

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your great review and for sharing your experience with others at this forum!

We are all happy here to know that our Hotel was part of your vacations, and more excited to read all the wildlife you saw from your balcony... Wow Incredible!

The Hotel is located door to door to Manuel Antonio National Park, because of this our guest can spot many animals from their balconies or even from the pool. The Hotel is very safe and we have nice environments designed for families (family pool with waterslide, cascades, wetbar), couples (exclusive pool & Bar at the rooftop with ocean view) and friends.

We want to thank again and we can't wait for your return.

Pura vida!

This hotel is the perfect place to explore Manuel Antonio! It is literally 10 feet from the entrance of the national park. We explored Quepos a bit, but staying in Manuel Antonio seemed like the perfect choice. There are some good restaurants within a mile or so of the hotel. The "path" to the beach seems shady, but it wasn't. Tip - just spend your time on the national park beaches instead, they are WAY better!

We stayed there during the offseason and got to know the staff very well. Everyone in the restaurant knew us and definitely spoiled us. The food in the restaurant is amazing if you don't feel like getting out. The front desk people ran down the street to get us tickets to the national park. Everyone was just so friendly and we enjoyed getting to know everyone on staff!

Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room on the side facing the beach - you will see iguanas and all sorts of wildlife

Dear Travel_addict_1987,

Greetings from the most beautiful beach in Costa Rica! Thank you very much for your nice review and for recent visit at our Hotel!

Your review is a complete real description of what most of the guest that stays at the Hotel experiences. Yes indeed our Hotel is located door to door to the National Park, or adjacent to it... many guest seems to have certain doubts about it before reserving, but once they arrive their doubt are cleared and they can enjoy the rest of their vacations walking to the Park, the public beach, souvenir shops and many other shops and attractions nearby without worrying about driving, taking a cab, bus, shuttles, etc...

We are working together with the shops along the path to the beach to make it beauty, as for safety reasons we reccommend to use this path from 6:00am to 6:00pm, since most of the shops close at that time and there are no lights after.

The beaches inside the National Park are world wide recognized and they were mentioned in the Forbes Magazine as one of the 12 most beautiful national parks in the world. And they are just few steps from the Hotel door.

Thank you for your kind words in regards to our staff, the service we strive to provide to each one of our guests and the food of the restaurant described as "amazing". We want to invite other tripadvisor readers to try out our seafood specials (seafood platter, surf and turf, lobster) or the biggest burger in town the Congo Burger.

Also for green season until Nov. 15, we are selling bonus tickets for the restaurant only during check in time, if you buy a $50 dolar bonus you get an extra of $25; or if you buy a $100 bonus you get an extra of $50.

We feel proud and motivated after we read your review and we definitely welcome you back here at our Paradise!

Warm regards,

Your friends at Hotel San Bada
