AMAZING hotel and staff!!! Highly recommend for anyone interested in a total Costa Rica experience! Hotel San Bada is PHENOMENAL! The entire staff at the hotel were amazing! The concierge (Christian) was outstanding, always answering our many questions! The property was immaculate, they take great pride in their property and it shows from the cleanliness in the rooms, manicured landscaping grounds, pool areas, restaurants, and delicious breakfasts!!
Our rooms were nicely decorated, great views, and extremely comfortable and clean. We have traveled internationally, and we are very impressed by this property! During our stay (end of July-first of August) there were rainstorms, we always had hot water and power, which during some of the intense storms is quite outstanding!

Breakfast was deliciously prepared daily, with many choices and variations during our stay. The amenities were exemplary! The pool area was clean and our children had a grand time playing at the pool and slide!

We cannot say enough great things about Hotel San Bada, we had the trip of a lifetime!

I stayed at the San Bada in early August. There were some good things about the hotel, but also some very bad things:

Pros:
- Most convenient hotel to the main entrance of Manuel Antonio (don't have to worry about finding a spot to park, etc) it borders it
- Pretty short walk to beach (maybe 5-7 min through some short cuts)
- Staff was very friendly and accomodating
- Pool is pretty nice, but I never saw pool swim up bar open and fountains were turned off most of the time (we were there in low season which might have made the difference)

Cons:
- One night during a rain storm we literally had water pouring into our room. We didn't raise a big fuss because most of the water was gone by the morning, but we let the front desk know. The next night it happened again even worse. We showed the front desk a video of the water pouring in and they seemed surprised. They moved us to a new room, but weren't apologetic and didn't offer any type of compensation (We had 1/4-1/2 inch water over 90% of the room, and my toiletry bag had standing water in it from water coming out of the ceiling in the bathroom). Fortunately our suitcases had been off the floor. We found water stains (about 8 feet wide) down two walls so it was obvious it wasn't the first time this happened. As some other reviewers have mentioned the hotel looks very nice, but upon closer inspection most of the finishings are a fascade and I don't think it will stand up over time as the finishings are substandard (We could also see holes in the exterior door framing (not the door itself, but the actual frame). The hotel is new, but appears to be aging pretty rapidly - If you are going to go you should go soon before mold sets in.
- The Pro from being close to MA is also a Con If you plan on leaving the MA area much-this hotel would be the farthest away from anything else (Quepos, Jaco, etc)
- Food/Drinks were overpriced when compared to other restaurants in the area
- Rooms can be overpriced - I would would not consider paying anywhere near full price
- It was fine for us, but if you want something to do after dark besides sitting in a restaurant/bar this area is not the place for you. Not a knock against the hotel, everything within walking distance would be the same way.

Room Tip: 5th floor is best, but not sure that any of the rooms are worth paying to upgrade. 6th floor pool/b...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your recent visit to our Resort! We are grateful for your kind comments regarding that you found our Hotel location as the most convenient in the area, just right next to the most beautiful National Park and beach in Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio!. Also glad to know that you pointed out the very short distance (2 minutes walking not driving) we are to the public beach; once you are here you don’t need to take out your car for visiting the major attractions of Manuel Antonio.

Your comments on the friendly and accommodating service of our staff are very kind and appreciated. However I do need to point out, that your review is contradictory at some point, reviewing first that our staff were very friendly and accommodating and then stating that our frontdesk representative wasn’t apologetic, even though it was the same person who did a great job upgrading your room and satisfying your needs since the check in.

We are very sorry to hear the inconvenience you had with your room during your stay, nevertheless I would like to explain other tripadvisor readers the cause of this particular issue, we had for two consecutive nights heavy rain and rainstorm, product of unstable atmosphere phenomenon called La Niña. Despite the heavy rain unfortunately your room was the only one affected due to an obstructed canoe which caused water filtration. It is important to mention that we proceeded immediately to fix the situation. And in order to compensate you with the inconvenience we rewarded you with an upgrade to a deluxe room on the fifth floor with full ocean view. Even thought the issue with the room was solved and fixed the same day.

Thank you so much for reminding us the finishings details, since the rooms have been occupied, we cannot work disturbing other guests that are in the hotel, that is why we are waiting and preparing to improve those what you called substandard in your review in the low season.

In regards, to the food and drinks prices, for our tripadvisor readers we have an extensively menu, from dishes that start at $10 with beverage included, at this part we don’t unsderstand how it would be overpriced, the Hotel chooses carefully the best ingredients and fresh seafood or meats to prepare each dish. I would like to mention that in Costa Rica by law all the tax contributors in the restaurant area are required to charge an automatic 10% service tax and 13% sales tax to the final price, and we are very strict with this matter.

Once again we are extremely sorry that your vacation was not what you expected so, and we would very much appreciate another chance to host you in Paradise and make your vacations remarkable.

Sincerely,

Your friends at Hotel San Bada

We spent three nights in this beautiful resort, nobody cant beat their location, one step way from the Manuel Antonio park entrance and few steps from the main beach, restaurants, shops.
We had two rooms with full ocean view, where we can hear and see the animals inside the park. The waiters, receptionists and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. We had breakfast and dinner inside the hotel, the food is delicious! Definitely we are going to visit San Bada again and we recommend this place to everyone.

I organized a trip to Costa Rica for a group of friends this July, we had 11 rooms at San Bada for 3 days and I have to say that both as a guest as an organizer (20 years +) have seldom experience an equal level of excellence in customer service. From the General Manager to the housekeeping staff their friendliness and their eagerness to make our stay a pleasant one was a most satisfying experience.
The entire facility was well kept and the location is unquestionably the best in the area - literally 5 steps from the main entrance to Manuel Antonio National Park. I was hesitant to commit to having all of our meals at the hotel but after the first dinner the concern went away and all 21 of us were very pleased with the quality and presentation of our meals.

Dear Guest!

We really appreciate your words and the comments regarding our Hotel. We are honored for your accurate words and we are thankful for letting us the opportunity to serve you.

For our tripadvisor readers, this group consisted of couples and families looking forward for a vacation retreat at the most beautiful beach in Costa Rica, the first night we combined the best fresh ingredients to serve a fusion dinner with many local ingredients, accompanied by the traditional Costa Rica Marimba sound performed in live, the second night we brought the best of the pastas and made a Italian Costa Rica pasta night!, and the last night consisted of a BBQ feast with live music ... We are glad that your group enjoyed all the meals and the flavor.

We truly want to share this experience with others, since we felt that you arrive as a guest and leave us as a friend.

Thanks again for your wonderful review and we are looking forward to host you again at our Resort next year!

Thanks for taking your the time writing a review at T.A.!

We are pleased that the rooms were nice and that you enjoyed your view. Our rooms were designed to provide all the comfort and rest after an invigorating day visiting Manuel Antonio National Park or at the beach, and if that is not enought we offer the most beautiful spa in the area for body, mind and soul relaxation.

For the youngest members of the family looking for fun, we offer the biggest pool in the area with a waterslide, waterfalls and hot jacuzzi heated by renewable energy.

The staff was so wonderful & super helpful! Our driver Marmiso had the best customer service I have ever had! He stopped to show us the crocs, banks, grocery store, & to go pay our taxes! All the staff was eager to please us in every way! On our anniversary they gave us a special treat!
The spa is bran new & just beautiful. Carmen also gives great massages & I needed it after walking over the rocks in the waterfalls on the property. My favorite part was the horseback riding tour I'm not going to write about it because I will cry happy tears again. Anyway I highly recommend this hotel that sits right next to the rainforest. This is the first time writing a review but I am so impressed I took the time. I hope this is helpful.

Dear Jeanne!

Thank you very much for your wonderful review!

Your review is so correct, we have the best location for the area, few steps from the National Park and so close to the public beach, perfect spot to do romantic walks to the beach and watch breathtaking sunsets during your anniversary.

We are proud of our staff and “Mauricio” is not the exception, very proactive, helpful and attentive to our guest, he wants to share all his knowledge about our country with every guest.

Oh... yes! our spa deserves an entire page to write about the wonderful treatments we offer and after a massage treatment you will feel rejuvenated, our spa as you posted is brand new and offers massage rooms overlooking the abundant green vegetation of the National Park, we do also offer a sauna and a steam room after an invigorating day.

We are glad that you could saw by yourself the amazing property we have at the rainforest with exclusive waterfalls and did the horseback riding tour, this tour is very popular among our Hotel guests and it is a great opportunity to see lush vegetation and the traditional part of Costa Rica. MULGURI is sensational! It's an adventure!

Thanks again for your great review and we hope to host you again in the near future!

If you are planning to visit the Manuel Antonio area, definitely is cause you are planning to visit the National Park, so a wise decision will be to stay nearby the Park; San Bada is located just next to the main entrance.
I stayed there with my family we left the car on their private parking of the hotel, Dante, the General Manager, help us with the entrance tickets and give us also some advise of what areas visit.
Great food at their restaurant, helpful and pleasant staff, best location of their property, beautiful and comfortable rooms, made our stay more than I can express in words.

Room Tip: Higher floors have best view, also visit the pool at the 6th floor
