“Beautiful Location, Excellent Staff, Wonderful Vacation”
Reviewed December 16, 2013

My sisters and I spent a wonderful week at the Villa and for anyone who wants to experience Costa Rica first-hand and first-class, this is the place to stay. Not only is it a visual feast for the eyes (the décor is exquisite), the property overall is beautiful. The Staff is great and so accommodating -- it's the quintessential luxury experience. Well worth the time. There's nothing like waking up to that Costa Rican sunrise, seeing the little monkeys running across the porch outside your bedroom window. There's plenty to do during the day and night, so make sure to put the Villa Perezoso on your list of places to experience!

We stayed in Villa Perezoso with a group of 11 (4 families) in November 2013, and it was an awesome experience. Here's why:

1 - The house was gorgeous, with sweeping views of the ocean and jungle
2 - Victor, Randall, Over and Cecilia - They were outstanding, always friendly and seeking to make our stay more enjoyable. They recommended tours that were high quality and were eager to adjust things based on our interests.
3 - The food - Over and Randall did a marvelous job preparing and serving delicious meals and snacks. They adjusted to our needs (we had a vegan in our group) and were eager to please. The food was always fresh and delicious. I can still taste the bbq ribs and the seafood paella in my mind. After the first meal when we arrived, we made sure to plan our excursions so that our meals would always be at the house!!!
4 - The wildlife - We saw a multitude of monkeys twice every day passing thru and stopping by the villa to say hello to us.

We would highly recommend anyone visiting Manuel Antonio to stay at Villa Perezoso. Pura Vida!!

Room Tip: All the rooms were great. Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets from the loft!

6 of us just returned from the villa. We consisted of 3 couples that needed a break from the hustle and bustle of city life with young children at home in Atlanta. The house is great and the comfort and luxury was expected and met based on past reviews. The wildlife being so close was also a good bit of fun and I can’t wait to show my young children a video of the monkeys just feet away from us. The only thing I wish is that the tree blocking the view of the pacific from the pool could be trimmed.
As others have stated the real benefit of the villa is the exceptional service you will receive from the staff. Being a smaller group we only dealt with Victor and Over each day. Victor runs a tight ship and will make sure everything you may want or need is attended to promptly and professionally. We did quite a lot in our 5 days at the villa. One beach day with Mary who was a ton of fun, Zip lining in the rain, Catamaran booze cruise, and White Water rafting our final free day. Each of the companies Victor will reserve for you all provided safe and fun adventures. Each of these providers seemed to be the most reliable and seasoned at what they do in the area. Now on to Chef Over who btw learned to cook in Spain. Over did a great job at every meal. Many different dishes are available for each meal and they will source the fresh supplies each day for you. Whatever you want just ask and Over will accommodate you. We thought we would be going out to eat quite a bit but the food was so good it really was just more relaxing to eat at the villa. Over has a laid back personality and was fun to joke around with our entire trip.
Ok a few general things. Internet is very spotty at the house and if you depend on having access be aware you may have to head up to the coffee shop which is very close by for it. Not sure if it is always like that but during our stay the entire street the villa was on had no access. To Seda’s credit she did very graciously take care of us for the inconvenience without us even asking. Alcohol is very expensive in general so make sure you get as much as you may wish for your stay at duty free. We did buy beer and took advantage of the wine list provided before we arrived. The wine was quite good and affordable. We did not take the flight from San Jose to Manual Antonio but would consider it next time. ATM is very close to Villa and the charge was only $3 US for a $500 withdrawal. You will need a good bit of cash especially when you arrive to cover transport from airport, initial supplies at house and deposit of future dinners etc. I would estimate $250 a head initially. I’d say if you are thinking of renting a car-don’t. Transportation was included with all tours and taxis were easy enough to get around.

All in all it was a great vacation at a great place and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a place in Manual Antonio to stay.

PURA VIDA!

This is why:

1. Beautiful well kept house
2. Breath taking views
3. Monkey friends
4. The epitome of comfort and relaxation
5. Costa Rican Culture and Hospitality
6. But most importantly: Victor, Randall, Over and Cecilia. The service was out of this world AMAZING! Any and everything the four of them could offer us they did. Friendly, kind hearted, and hard working to say the least. Seda (house owner) you really do have the best staff on earth!

p.s-Over (chef) will create dishes that will make you wanna SLAP YOUR MOMMA!

This stunning villa is well worth the price. The location is breathtaking, the villa itself is just beautiful with upscale furnishings and comforts. Each bedroom is beautiful and the service is outstanding. Victor made sure that everyone had all that they needed, Over and Randall created some amazing meals and Cecelia made sure the place was immaculate. My daughter and her friends had an incredible time. Not much one can ask for. Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to be near a beautiful beach, the rain forrest with all its wonders and an amazing villa with all the comforts one can need.

Our family of 7 - three sisters with husbands and my 18 year old son who had to be dragged - had a remarkable stay at this exquisite home on the cliffs of Manuel Antonio. I had found the listing here on TripAdvisor, and we worked directly with the owner, Seda, to arrange our stay. We briefly met Seda and her husband, Paul, while there, and they were delightful.

The villa was jaw-droppingly beautiful, situated as it is on a high bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Spacious, modern, beautifully furnished, and immaculate, it is overseen by a main staff of four (Victor, the concierge; Over, the chef; Randall, the bartender and server; and Cecelia, the housekeeper). These friendly individuals were helpful and gracious throughout our stay; it was truly a vacation, and we never lifted a finger! Over in particular is an outstanding chef, providing fine dining dinners every night. Although we had some very high expectation eaters in our group, and toyed with going out for dinner once, we never bothered.

The highlight of our days was the late afternoon when, weather permitting - we were there during rainy season, which meant PM downpours most days at some point - the monkeys came out to play. Adorable Capuchins came right up onto the decks and occasionally, a bold one would actually dash into the house for a few seconds looking to grab a banana. The howlers and squirrel monkeys stayed in the surrounding trees, but were also great to watch. We never did spot the sloth ("perezoso" means sloth), but it hardly mattered. Bring your camera! Also, be warned: the howlers got very loud in the wee hours of the morning, and usually woke us up!

The rooms were all well-appointed, and each had its charm. There was a selection of five bedroom options; three downstairs on the first floor, and two upstairs on the third floor. The second floor is the main. The master incorporated a sunken room design, and one room had two queens. The beds are very firm. The bathrooms were my favorite, with gorgeous open showers, and raised sinks. The bedrooms were each air conditioned, as was the enclosed family room. Otherwise, the villa is open to the decks on the third floor, which has a spiral staircase to a fourth floor, with the uppermost view and a hot tub (that we never used). The main floor had a full width of sliders to the deck with chairs, loungers, and a small incorporated long skinny pool.

A week at VP can accommodate a wide variety of vacation styles and fitness levels, although you do have to be able to navigate stairs. We were all adults. As an aside, I would be very uncomfortable with small children at VP; far too many open railings in the house and on the decks. Relaxers can hang out and read. Action adventure lovers have access to parasailing, ziplining and white water rafting, all of which some of us did, and all of which were memorable. Nature lovers can hike in Manuel Antonio Park. Beach lovers can hit the beach. Our last day, our entire group took a catamaran cruise ("a threeee hour tourrrr") for fantastic whale watching, snorkeling, and - yes - imbibing.

About getting around. We were dependent on vans and cabs to get anywhere we couldn't walk, and other than the beach and the excellent pizza place at the top of the villa's road, that was everywhere. The transportation was quite reasonable and very efficient, but required that Victor arrange most everything, which meant that it all took some advance planning. Frankly, unless you are an intrepid driver with lots of off-road experience in hill country, I don't recommend a rental car. The most efficient route to the beach, which seems close when viewed from the deck, is actually a good half hour's walk a little up but mostly down steep hills on unpaved roads shared with vehicles. Getting there is one thing; getting back is another. The return trip is an extremely steep climb. My 18 year old son (a D-1 athlete) and I (his 50-something 3 mile a day walker of a mother) did it once, and to his annoyance, I nearly didn't make it. Thereafter, most of those in our group walked down and hailed a cab to get back along the less efficient but paved route. Manuel Antonio Park is less than a mile from the end of the beach area, so it was also accessible on foot for those of us who were able to handle the walk.

About money. In sum, a week at VP will require far more cash than most of us travel with anymore, and a credit card - Master/Visa. There are room safes and a master safe in Victor's office. Our experience was that credit cards were good for the excursion fees ($50-$100/adult range) and our front end wine and liquor purchases at the airport duty free store (yes you can buy it and drink in country, and the prices are better than available locally), but cash was required for the villa and everything else, including incidentals. There was a cash machine in nearby Quepos (I think it was Banco Nacional) that dispensed US dollars ($3 fee) along with the local currency, a fact I wish we'd known before we left. We ended up having to work to get rid of the small amount of local currency we bothered to get at the airport cash machine; dollars seem to be preferred everywhere.

The practice at the villa is to give Victor a sum in dollars each day for food, beverage, and supply purchases, with an end-of-stay settlement which includes the bill for the front end expenses. Because we were three separate economic units who hadn't planned well enough in advance to have sufficient cash, we found this system somewhat awkward. As a result, there was frequent shuffling for money among us as meal plans were decided and the prior day's very general invoice was presented with over/under amounts. We ended up needing a spreadsheet at the end to figure out who owed what to whom. If we had it to do over again, we would have planned for each family unit to contribute a fixed amount to a cash pool for the entire stay that would be administered by one person who would deal with Victor, and then rebate whatever was left over from the pool.

If you choose to do this, I'd say as of this writing, a realistic budget erring slightly on the generous side would include $40 per person per day for the daily market shopping; 10-15% of your total rent for the staff gratuity; about $70 per person for the upfront and day one food supply costs; $35-50 per person for airport transportation each way depending on the vehicle, the number of people, and the number of trips; and just under $30 per person for the departure tax. You might have a little left over at the end but better that than worrying about having enough as we did. (Again, we did not realize that dollars were available in the local ATM, which would have helped ease things.) All cash transactions at the villa go through Victor (including for airport transportation!) except the gratuity at the end, which goes to each of the staff individually. Be sure to have enough additional cash to handle incidentals, small admissions, cab rides back to the villa, guide tips, pictures from your action/adventure outings, and so forth. Bring singles and fives with you; the cash machine deals in twenties.

All in all, we all agreed - including the lone 18 year old - that this was a breathtakingly terrific vacation: invigorating, luxurious, and restful all at once. We're very glad that we chose to go, and would recommend it highly.

"Luxury Villa" barely describes this amazing place. Upon arrival we were greeted by the full staff with a tray of our favorite drinks, the delicious aroma of dinner cooking in the kitchen and a view that literally takes your breath away. Our party of 11 were treated to tastefully decorated rooms, each with it's own private balcony. You are right in the middle of the rainforest and each level of the villa gives a different perspective and view. Each morning we were greeted with monkey's antic's and the sounds of the forest waking up. We saw monkeys, sloths, toucans and much, much more. But the most spectacular thing about this spectacular villa is its outstanding staff. Victor, Over, Randall and Cecilia. They are the heart and soul of Villa Perezoso. We had a fantastic and magical vacation and are already planning our next trip back.
