We booked through our hotel the night prior and did on our last day - the only day we didn't have anything booked and debated about just relaxing, but heard from other tourists how much fun the ATV tour was - so glad we booked. We were picked up at our hotel with a family from Costa Rica (same as us with 2 kids, boy and girl similar ages, 15 and 12) - they went first and were a little slow, but we still had a great time! Jorge was a great guide - we actually got caught in the rain which was kinda cool on our last day in Costa Rica. Drove through rivers and fun trails and stopped and walked to a waterfall where my husband and kids went swimming. The lunch was incredible! We don't expect much for the food on tours, but this was one of the best meals in Costa Rica - very small, remote place with 2 picnic tables and a table covered - they grow all their own veggies organic - the fish, chicken, rice and bean, salad and a piccadily? (they said like yellow zucchini) was just delicious! The mom and daughter are wonderful cooks and everyone very friendly.

We loved our mangrove tour! We were looking for a nice relaxing morning, with some wildlife viewing. This is exactly what we got. We absolutely loved our guide Roy. Very nice guy, who knew a ton about the diversity of the mangrove's ecosystem. We were pleased to be in his company. We saw many lizards, birds, a baby cocodrilo, and a ton of capuchin monkeys (that we didn't have to feed to attract - unlike other tour companies). We had brunch at a forest preserve that was absolutely gorgeous. On our way out Roy grabbed us quickly to show us a family of howler monkeys he had spotted. Awesome unexpected ending to a great morning!

We had a very good experience on our mangrove boat tour with Safari Adventures. Chino was a great guide, seemed very knowledgeable and was a lot of fun. Best of all, Safari Adventures has a policy of not feeding the monkeys to attract them to the boat, unlike other companies we saw. In fact, they intentionally avoided staying to watch the feeding frenzy we came upon and we ended up at another spot where we saw a troop of probably 20 capuchin monkeys jumping around in the trees - so much better to see them in their natural environment than standing on someone's head begging for a cookie. Our guide and boat driver were also good at spotting other wildlife and pointing it out - we saw iguanas, Jesus Christ lizards, a boa constrictor, many types of egrets and herons, and other birds. Chino also explained a lot about the history of the area, the daily life of the people who live on Damas Island, and the natural environment.

My son (8 yrs) and I did the ATV tour. He rode behind me. He said he had fun, but I really only enjoyed the waterfall. I thought we went too slow, but there was someone in our group who did not seem very comfortable driving over the rough terrain, so I think our guide was trying to be careful with her. We probably would not do it again until my son is older and can drive the ATV on his own though.

We did an early morning boat trip and it was great. We had done a similar trip in Belize and didn't see anything nearly as good as the wildlife we saw here. We saw monkeys, lizards, and hundreds of birds. The guide was excellent and the trip was very relaxing. The food at the end was pretty blah, but we weren't there for the food.
