We stayed in Casa Chameleon for 3 days during our honeymoon in Costa Rica. The staff was amazing - they were extremly welcoming, friendly and alwas had nice tips for daytrips in the area. The villas are very spacious and cozy. The area itself is rather quiet and perfect if you want to spend some time to relax and wind down. The resort is located a bit up the hill, which provides for a nice view. With a quad or 4WD it takes approx. 5 - 10minutes to the beaches. The highlight of our stay was definitely the dinner. It is a 3 course dinner with 2 choices for starters and main course. All dishes tasted absolutely perfect, were presented very nicely on the plate and we even got a personal introduction of every course by the wondeful chef. This was by far the best food we got throughout our whole journey across costa rica.
We would definetly recommend casa chameleon and hope to have the possibility come back in the future!

Hola Lukas W,

I am glad you get to know our staff, they love to share a little piece of Costa Rica to our guest .

Casa Chameleon Mal Pais is located in a very beautiful place where AtVs are a great tool to explore the big space of rain forest that surround us.

We hope to see you again and try our new menu. Im sure we will overcome your expectations again.

¡Pura vida!

This was our second trip to Costa Rica and our first to Mal Pais. To begin, the hotel grounds are amazing. Extremely well kept and absolutely what you'd want in a tropical retreat. The views are incredible, the trees, plants and wildlife are beyond comprehension. We awoke to the most incredible views each day with a soundtrack of endless birds, monkeys and the distant lapping of waves. We were there during rainy season which simply meant we had two or three hours of incredible storms rolling in and a perfect excuse to read or nap. The remainder of the day was typically filled with amazing sunshine. The activities around Mal Pais are endless. I would highly recommend renting a four-wheeler and experiencing secret beach, the waterfalls, surfing or just exploring the local food scene. We had 3 full days and could have spent another 5 exploring. But by far, it was the Casa Chameleon staff that made the experience so unique. They are in love with their country, the town and so incredibly happy to work at this amazing place. Chef Emilio could open a successful restaurant in the most distinguished foodie cities (we wish he'd open one in Austin!). Jairo, Keylor, and Esteban absolutely blew us away with their friendliness and service. They greeted us with huge smiles, great stories, advice and a genuine interest in our enjoyment of their amazing country. They are true professionals with the most sincere and friendly personalities. What an amazing group of people they have assembled. We will miss them all. OH, and for those concerned with the fixed menu price, they are starting a new menu with an amazing selection of appetizers, desserts and main courses. We were fortunate enough to try the menu and you absolutely can't go wrong. We're hoping some day they will add a family month so we can make it an annual trip. Thanks for an amazing experience.

Ok. I'm writing this review because this place and the people who work there truly, truly make the experience one of a kind. I can't thank Jeimy and Ignacio enough for the help of booking our adventures and how timely they were. Most importantly - bar and kitchen staff were simply 5 stars. The Chef, Emilio, made some of the best food we have had in our lives and my wife and I consider ourselves "Foodies" and he always came to the table looking for suggestions and truly cared if we enjoyed the experience. The Service Staff (Keylor, Jairo and Esteban) were true studs as well and couldn't have provided better service and made some absolutely delicious drinks and always, always showed such great manners and care as well. Most importantly, they became our friends. I can't thank them enough for making our Honeymoon so memorable and enjoyable that we feel we need to go back and stay longer. It's a beautiful place but trust me the people make it! Catching Yellowfin Tuna and getting it prepped for us less than 2 hrs out of the ocean sipping on Mango Margs was also super nice!!! Thanks so much to all a Casa Chameleon. You all deserved so much more than we could give. PURA VIDA!!!!

Not sure where to begin... we were told of the beauty and amazing culture in Mal Pais, and the area certainly lived up to the billing. But we didn't expect to have the exceptional experience that occurred at Hotel Casa Chameleon! From the moment we checked in we were greeted with a warm, welcoming smile and simple yet efficient check in. Our room was absolutely beautiful, even more spectacular than the pictures on the website! It was as if the hotel was nestled right in to the natural green space of Mal Pais!
And the food... THE FOOD!!! Every meal on property was cooked to perfection and presented like a piece of art! Emelio, the chef, came out for every course to not only describe the food but ensure the flavors were perfect for us!
What took us over the top was the level of hospitality from EVERY member of the staff! Jeimy, Keylor, Esteban and Jairo made us feel as if we were part of their family. They remembered our name after the first time they met us, and gave us wonderful recommendations for sight seeing and adventures in the area.

Being in the hospitality industry for over 25 years, I couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Hotel Casa Chameleon is a great value no matter what the price!!!

I booked this trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary and I was not disappointed with my choice. As you can see by the photos our room was quite comfortable and had a great view. Our villa was called Palma and I believe this villa is pretty much your entry level villa as far as room size and total area. We were quite satisfied with our accommodation, though.

The grounds are very lush and well maintained, but the roads to get there leave much to be desired. Breakfast was included with our room, but it was a fairly limited menu. The one thing that stands out the most is the service and attention from the staff. After introducing ourselves they called us by name every time we encountered any of them. The concierge was very helpful in booking taxis, reservations and activities for us. The one thing I would say about the dinners at the hotel is they are very expensive and the dinner menu is limited to one choice. That being said, the chef is absolutely an artist when it comes to his choices. We went fishing one afternoon and brought back some Yellow Fin Tuna and asked the chef to prepare our catch for our dinner that evening. I have never had such a wonderful meal...so delicious!

I would highly recommend this property and will most likely return next year. My only (slight) negative was the lack of variety of menu choices, but we augmented the variety of meals by choosing a variety of local restaurants in the nearby town of Santa Teresa.

Great time, great experience!

Hello Carolyn,

We love to say Chameleon is home away for home. Our staff works hard and welcome everyone to feel as family. At the end what matters is that our guest relax and rest.
