Coming from a lovely hotel the night before, this hostel required a bit of an adjustment. We booked through another agency, so this may or may not have been the hostel's fault, but we were originally placed in room 112 which lacked AC when we were originally informed that it was included. Upon inquiring about this discrepancy, we were told that only the South-facing rooms had AC despite the rooms either side of us being clearly well-equipped. They had one other room (we were travelling as a group of six) available, but it was $30 extra per night. We decided it was worth it.
Room 108 was larger than 112, with a much better bathroom. However, there were many stains on the floor that made it look dirty; we wore shoes the whole time just in case. The AC was lovely during the day but was too cold at night; adjusting the heat temperature on the remote seemed to affect it only very slightly. This was the only thing we could adjust. After three nights of playing around with it, we put it on 26 degrees (it was no where near this hot in reality); with a barrier of towels protecting the sleeper on the bunk bed closest to the AC. This seemed to work the best. Unfortunately, the unit broke twice during our stay, requiring resetting.
The bathroom smelled awful during the majority of our time there. The shower drain would gurgle like the sewage was back-washing up it; thankfully, nothing actually came out. Having the fan on in the bathroom seemed to mainly solve the smell, but we couldn't leave it on all the time. I don't think any of us slept well: between getting the AC to work, noises from the main road outside (even though 108 had no windows or walls to the exterior), and uncomfortable mattresses (mine was okay, but others complained), we all awoke multiple times a night.
The room was clean enough, the mattresses rubber, and there weren't any insects. I didn't know quite what to expect about cleaning services, but there was a painted sign on the entrance to the corridor stating that the operators should be made aware if you didn't want your room cleaned. I took this to mean that the room would be cleaned (or at least checked) every day. In fact, we were only asked twice (we stayed for six days) if we would like it cleaned. There were other inconsistencies between what we were told and what happened: we didn't receive storage lockers as we were a group that knew each other, the surf lessons were not free as advertised on the website but instead cost $30, and the only storage space we were given was a small metal wire shelving unit.
However, there were many good things about the place: the building itself was awesome - very quaint, with a lovely kitchen area and a great upstairs balcony floor for the evenings when the temperature dropped a few degrees. The owners were lovely if occasionally unhelpful, bringing us fresh coconuts with straws on our last day. Their dog, Cookie, was adorable. Breakfast was nice every morning: any combination of gallo pinto, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, and very lightly toasted bread. The location was also great, very close to the ocean and on the outskirts of downtown; there was a beach club we had free access to on the shore but we never used it. Overall, I wouldn't warn people away from this place, but I would advise them to go prepared.

Room tip: Rooms on the North side have windows to the exterior, meaning they are louder, and may or may not have AC.

The place was clean and they offered breakfast. I do not recommend this place for more than a couple of nights as the beds are hard and the linens are poor quality but hey it’s a place to sleep for one night!

The hostel and the room was clean. It is near of the beach and we got a free access to a private beachclub just beside the corner.

The hostel got a new owner and he is a really good guy. He was doing renovation (not noisy) when we were here and I think there is a good potential !!

We have enjoy our stay in this hostel!! Thanks for everything!!

Price was comparable to other hostels and access to the pool was a huge plus. Rooms were clean and had air conditioning. Main complaint was that it felt disorganized. We dealt with several people at the front desk being there a few days, some more pleasant than others. They couldn't find out deposit when we checked out. Were given different information about breakfast so we missed it both mornings. Okay experience but I will try others next time visiting Jaco.

The hostel is fine, and when you have a bed here you also have free access to a nice pool!
But when we were staying there the first night we wanted to book for 2 more, and so We did but on the second Day they said that we had to leave because they were full booked, we told them that we already paid for that night but they didn't want to listen so it ended up with we had 2 pay 20 dollars each extra for that night
