“Welcomed back again”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2014

Just returned from another wonderful two weeks at Vista Pacifico, Jaco. Loved cooking in my apartment/room, the friendly atmosphere, the amazing view and, of course, the fabulous weather.
Can't think of a more comfortable place to be in the sun. Also enjoyed Jaco's incredible beaches and wonderful restaurants and shops. Thank you again. I will be back. And, hey, warm empanadas are delivered to the gate by a friendly neighborhood vendor. Who could ask for more ?

Room Tip: Rooms range from rather typical hotel room to a complete apartment with terrace and multiple floors...

We just returned from a wonderful trip to Costa Rica and the stay at Vista Pacifico was one of the many highlights, James and Juliana are wonderful hosts and really went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. They are friendly, down to earth and extremely knowledgeable of the many activities and places in and around the area. The pool is a nice respite at the end of a long day and the provided breakfast hits the spot with some nice treats as well as healthy choices for all types. The best aspect of AVP is the peace and quiet brought by the surrounding areas. It's far enough outside of Jaco to get away from all of the noise and hustle and bustle, but also close enough for a nice dinner via a 5 minute ($4) taxi ride. Stay here for a real piece of Costa Rica's Pura Vida.

We had a very special birthday party at this delightful, charming hotel in early November. The staff and accommodations were exceptional! The property is tranquil, well maintained and the gardens and pool are perfect for catching up on the New Yorker articles you never get to finish, with and a nice Gin & Tonic. The location is safe and quiet with spectacular views of the ocean and the valley. Bonus = there is a tucan who frequently visits.
Our hosts, Juliana and James, are relaxed, charming and unobtrusively attentive. They make you feel so welcome, and thoughtfully stocked the basics and wine for our arrival (just fill out the form on the website www.vistapacifico.com).
This visit was my second, and most certainly, not my last. One of Costa Rica's gems!

My 2 sisters and I stayed here for one week, Dec. 7th to 14th. We loved every minute of it. This little hotel is quiet and relaxing. Good for the soul if you lead a hectic paced life. Our units 6 & 7 were perfect. Juliana and James are the perfect hosts. From shopping for us before we arrived, arranging our car rental, organizing and reserving trips and restaurants for us, couldn't have asked for more. This hotel sits on top of hill and overlooks the town of Jaco. Jaco beach is great to walk on during the morning when it's quieter. Watching the surfers during the day was great fun too. Everything Julianna recommended for us was perfect. We even got brave enough to try zip lining. We can hardly wait to go back again some time in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for unit 7 as it has a great tower you can climb up to and have a great view of the area.

During our 3 weeks trip to Costa Rica, we spent 2 nights at Vista Pacifico. You can find the Vista Pacifico on a hill site a little outside town center of Jaco. So having your own rental car is very practical. The view from our balcony was absolutely superb. The hospitality of the owners was impeccable. They helped us a lot and we got directions to our next B&B in Manuel Antonio. They even catched a very big spider in our room which was bright, clean, cool and quiet at night. The grounds are very well maintained, and the pool provides a great in-house spot to socialize and take in some sun and a cool swim. The breakfast was good. All that said, it was one of the best hotels where we spend some nights in Costa Rica.

Our 4 nights at Vista Pacifico were fantastic. The hospitality of the owners was impeccable. They helped us sort out day trips, meals, surfing, white water rafting, and directions to our next B&B. Our room was bright, clean, cool and quiet at night. The grounds are very well maintained, and the pool provides a great in-house spot to socialize and take in some sun. The view from our balcony was absolutely top notch. The breakfast was good but not as hearty as we had elsewhere in Costa Rica. All that said, we would love to spend more time there in the future.

The room, landscaping, pool, and beautiful views from the hotel make this a nice place to stay.
It's perfect if you are looking for a peaceful getaway near Jaco. It has a cozy vibe, complete with a family dog and cats.

We had booked Room #3, looking forward to easy access to the internet and the pool. However, the owners were celebrating a birthday with friends who were staying onsite the days we were there. So, upon our arrival they moved/upgraded us to the One Bedroom Suite #8, which is separate from the main units. It is private and on the back side of the property, on a hillside facing a pretty valley, away from Jaco. The views from Room #8 and its porch are amazing and the front room has a kitchen, as well as a sofa. There is a door next to the bed that opens directly into a jungle setting, which was fun just to open once for a look.
I could tell that the room was clean, thoughtfully decorated and provided amenities for the comfort of guests. There were a few ants on the floor, both dead and alive, but not many. They looked like black carpenter ants, not the little or big red ones. The bed did have a distinct ridge in the middle of it, so my husband and I tilted away from each other. We slept ok, but it was not completely comfortable for us.
We did not know until we were settled into the room, that Room #8 did not receive any internet signal, which was a disappointment for me, as I use the internet a lot when I travel and
I had arranged a video chat on my iPad with family. I was already aware that the internet signal was weak in Room #3 and that I would likely have to stand just inside the door to get it, but now that we were in Room #8, it required going out into the dark, in the pouring rain and up two sets of steps, (my husband slipped on the wet landing area at the base of the upper steps), to the main cabana area to pull a signal. It's a good thing that I brought a headlamp, as that back area is not lit brightly and a personal light is necessary to see well at night.
When I arrived at the poolside building, the covered area was busy with people in conversation, so I went around the corner and stood under an eave by the office in order to use the internet privately and out of the rain. It didn't really work out well, so I finished the chat and headed back to our room.
The toilet in Room #8 wouldn't flush during the time we were there, but I took the lid off and discovered that I could manually get it to flush. It was due to a new air-assisted flush cartridge inside the tank that needed a slight gap adjustment to the metal lever inside. I pointed it out to one of the owners and they likely fixed it after we left.

It's easy to stay at the hotel all day and not go anywhere. However, if you take a red taxi into town multiple times a day, as we did, the cost adds up quickly.
It cost us 2500-2900 Colones one way to the north and central areas of town, or $5 to $6 US each ride, not the $3 to $4 that we read from various sources. We went into Jaco three times just the first day, which was an additional $34. Ultimately, we decided that we wanted to be where the action was on Halloween, so we moved to a hotel on the beach, within easy walking distance to everything, as well as having internet in the room.
Overall, Vista Pacifico is a good value for its beautiful location, service and amenities.

Room Tip: If you have a mobility issue, choose a room by the pool.

Thank you for your review and all of your compliments about the hotel: its views, cozy vibe and the room you stayed in. As you noted and as we pointed out to you at check-in we are trying a new water-saver toilet in that room and were working on the fine adjustments. It now seems to be working without a problem.

We are always pleased when guests return to Vista Pacifico, and we apologize that you felt your experience didn’t live up to your expectations. We hoped as a returning guests that you would appreciate our complimentary upgraded room. Given the large number of guests staying with us for the “surprise” birthday party we thought you also might enjoy the larger, quieter room away from the festivities.

The internet WiFi signal is widely available in all the guest areas on our premises (there is a second WiFi address and password for the boosted signal). Had we known you were having trouble and needed a quiet place to complete your internet chat we would have been happy to let you use the hotel’s office and made sure you had signed in correctly to get the best signal. Our management team lives on the premises and is always available to help guests but unfortunately you did not let us know about your difficulties.

As for your taxi rides, the information we give our guests is correct. I personally take taxi’s to and from town because I don’t drive, and pay between ¢2000 and ¢2400 colones (to the very far end of town). Many of our guests rent cars while they travel and those who prefer taxis frequently comment on how inexpensive they are compared to North America. We also offer a shopping service to stock your room before you arrival so you can just relax when you get here and not have to go into town right away. To our recollection you did not take advantage of this service.
We hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Jaco and again we want to thank you for taking the time to prepare your review and for the kind things you said. We apologize that we did not know and could not help you with the difficulties you experienced while staying with us.
