This place is located on the beach. They have good calamari. This is a very relaxing atmosphere. There was a jazz player who played music on the beach as dinner was eaten. There is a dessert that comes with some kind of alcohol. Anyhow the bartender turns the lights off and does a show that looks as if he is pouring fire from cup to cup. Great restaurant. Strongly recommend

We took a 43 cent 20 minute bus ride from Herradura to Playa Jaco for an afternoon of touristing. Jaco is a surfer destination town packed full with cheap tacky souvenir shops. El Hicaco is one of the few restaurants directly on the beach and not on the gritty vehicle fumed streets. The architecture is first class and we ate outside on the deck. We had a great view of the surfers and a quick afternoon storm including a waterspout. Seafood was fresh and service was fast and friendly.

We went to Hicacos for a very special anniversary dinner last night and the service was so bad that we will likely never go back. We had been there before in past years to the lobster fest on Wednesdays and enjoyed it very much so decided this would be a nice romantic spot to celebrate our anniversary.

Our waiter Henry turned out to ruin our evening by being surly and rude. We came into the restaurant in a very good mood having enjoyed a beautiful day, hoping to enjoy a lovely dinner and evening. He didn't smile once at us, didn't ask if we had any questions about the menu items and when I asked him about one item, he was very curt and seemed to be put out dealing with us. We are easy going, well-travelled and have been coming to Jaco since 2008 as we have a condo here.

After being seated and offered water, we waited quite some time before Henry returned to our table. No smile, no small talk, no offer of explaining the menu or any specials. We ordered 2 cocktails and these took forever. By this time, we were less than enthusiastic and Henry came back and said "What'll you have?" with his little pad in hand like "hurry up, I have better things to do than wait on you!". His tone and manner were unbelievable and in Canada he would be out of a job!!! The restaurant was not busy, there was only 1 other table of guests who were already finished their meal.

We planned on a special dinner, complete with appies, entrees, a nice bottle of wine and dessert but after the shabby service so far, we decided to only get an entree and then leave. Unfortunately it was Sunday night in Jaco, around 8:30pm and there aren't many alternatives at this time and it was pouring rain. Otherwise, we would have left after the cocktails.

Henry didn't even bother to ask if we would like to see a wine list or if we wanted anything else to drink. We waited forever to have our plates cleared and then waited some more for a bill. My husband finally went to him and asked if we could get the bill. Then we waited some more to pay, by this time, totally fed up. We finally went to the cash register ourselves at the bar and paid there. Henry came over to make sure that we were paying I guess, not a "good night, was everything OK?" nothing!!

Three other groups had come in while we were there and it appeared if you spoke Spanish, you got good service, but if you spoke English, forget it. Henry's English was not very good and it seemed he made no bones about not wanting to serve us. We have never found language to be a problem here, between our small bit of Spanish and some charades and a few laughs, we always get our message across and most of the locals are great. This restaurant prides itself on being a high-end retaurant, but if they don't get better wait-staff, they will lose customers fast. Needless to say, Henry received his 10% tip (that is the law here and comes automatically on your bill) and that was it. If it was up to us, he would have gotten nothing!!!

The food was good, not exceptional and very over-priced. We won't be back and we will make sure we tell everyone at our complex how terrible our experience was. It totally ruined our evening.

Nice place. Poor service. Asian style menú. The dish is not what you expect Reading the menu. Tha flavor is OK. Expensive for Costa Rica. A family lunch cost about $ 125. Kids meal is very good. Fresh fish for kids.

My fish taco was asian style/flavor! not what I was expecting in costa rica. it was covered with soy sauce. the crab cakes were pretty good but not very hot. Service was super slow even though they were not busy. BUT the view here is fantastic. super relaxing. I recommend going for a drink and then someplace else for dinner.
