“good value, great service”
Reviewed June 19, 2014

Everyone at this place is so kind and helpful. Honestly, having Sheyla to help us plan and reserve with our activities MADE THE TRIP for us. At one point, our rental car broke down and we called Sheyla in desperation to rescue us from the side of the highway. And Erik (security guard) went out of his way to help us more times than I can remember.

I had forgotten how fresh fruit really tastes and having a variety waiting for you every morning was a special treat.

A couple of things to keep in mind:
* This is an older structure and you won't have all the modern conveniences. (Although we did find music channels on the satellite).
* Some things do look a little run-down. We tried to use the grill one day and realized the handle of the lid had rusted off. There are broken tiles laying all over the roof. There is no sign on the building or grounds telling you you're in the right place.
* You probably need a rental car to stay here. It's not "in the middle of things", which is great for getting away, but you'll need to eat. Don't plan on using the "common" kitchen except to store things in the fridge. We were told the stove was not to be used as a courtesy to other guests.

Room Tip: CEO Suite is the most spacious.

We were only going to stay one night , but this was the best hotel we have stayed in while we have been here. We Are here for a month we are going back to stay at least one more night . Great beds and Sheyla was the best host.

We stayed at the Forest Hills Suites for 4 nights & LOVED every second of it! It is an amazingly beautiful private home located in the middle of the jungle! The birds we saw were amazing, including tons of scarlet macaws! Sheyla and the entire staff were beyond helpful, pointing us in all the right directions for tours, taxis and amazing local restaurants! The beaches were very close by, and absolutely gorgeous. We would definitely stay here again, in fact, we are already planning our return!

Room Tip: All the rooms are amazing, with an old world charm to them! We stayed in a room that was unattached...

Super friendly staff really went overboard for us.

At my request they put an extra bed in the room for our son. And it was a real bed not just a fold away. So my son was able to sleep well. Also allowed us to check in early and check out late! And when my wife ask if the gardener could sweep our our car after a super sandy beach day he did it with a smile. (Yes we tipped him)

The rooms and grounds are amazing as noted in other reviews. Our room was crazy huge with a double shower.

Pool was perfect after a long day at the beach and even saw a toucan one afternoon.

Room Tip: Ask for the big room with the double shower. Awesome!!

Unbelievable find just minutes from beautiful Herradura beach and wonderful harbor! Well off the beaten path in a Quiet neighborhood. Our suite had a brick dome over an amazingly comfortable king bed, a luxurious jet tub with shower, a walk in closet, and beautiful balcony! All this and the price was unbelievable! Don't think twice about booking Forest hills suites!

Room Tip: Presidential suite! Pura Vida!

Like the previous review from Chicago_Boz, we also booked Forest Hills as a stop to break up our journey from Arenal to the South of Costa Rica.
What a pleasant surprise. We loved the Spanish influence of the house, the grounds and the pool and the large kitchen for our use if we wanted to. Our suite was next to the main house and we had a restful sleep. We took several photos and were sad to have to leave after only one night stay.
I will definitely remember this place for if we come again in this direction, but then for a longer stay!

First of all, I have a confession...we booked Forest Hills as a stop off to break up our journey from Arenal to the South of Costa Rica. So we had relatively low expectations, more of just a place to lay our heads and have a break from driving. Little did we know, that it would become a highlight of our trip!

After getting lost when trying to find the hotel, we called Erica for help, and she came to meet us just off the main road. From that moment on, she made our stay fantastic. The property itself, is a wonderful, almost Spanish looking villa, with six well appointed rooms, and a shared living space where you can utilize the kitchen or living room. You basically make yourselves feel at home.

Due to the fact that it's a small boutique hotel, it's easy to get to know the other guests, either at breakfast, by the pool, or in the evenings over a cocktail. With Erica acting as the 'social glue', people are soon chatting and sharing stories. We enjoyed the conversation and company so much, we skipped on going out for dinner, and Erica drove us to get take out to bring home. If you get the chance, you should do the same, amazing local food which is quick to pick-up and very cheap.

The following morning we had the pool to ourselves, so we sat around drinking coffee, eating the delicious fruit that was provided and having a swim. In fact, we ended up leaving later than we planned as it was hard to let go!

We decided to stay at Forest HIlls for one extra night later in the vacation, once again, a fantastic experience. This time, the room we were given was even better - the 'Presidential Suite' - which is hard to justify in words. A private staircase, up to a large bedroom with a domed ceiling above the bed, and a little veranda over looking the swimming pool. In addition, a massive bathroom, with a small set of stairs leading up to a deep bath tub. Amazing.

Forest Hills Suites is certainly a great place to spend a few days, especially if you want to use it as a base camp to explore Manuel Antonio, or many of the excellent nearby excursions.

Pros:

- wonderful service and an excellent host who make the stay special.
- a simple breakfast, which is self serve, or the use of a very fine kitchen if you wish to cook.
- not too far from the main highway, but far enough away to feel remote.
- a beautiful building with great rooms and wonderful facilities.

Cons:

- none that I can think of.

Our guests adore the Presidential suite, and we are so pleased that you loved the domed ceiling and private veranda too. Erika's passion is making sure that our guests are happy, so it;s great that you enjoyed her company so much. It would be a great pleasure to host you again if you ever return to Costa Rica.
