Owner description: Pura Vida Gardens and Waterfalls is unique in Costa Rica. It is truly a "Visual Masterpiece". The gardens begin with the natural beauty of Costa Rica and four waterfalls in the property with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. To this millions of plants, flowers and orchids from all over the world have been added. Manicured walkways meander long a river and at the crest of the mountain which make the entire 50 acre gardens accessible to all. Have lunch in our restaurant and browse the gift shop that offers authentic Costa Rica gifts.

PV Gardens and Waterfalls is a very nice experience especially for first time visitors to Costa Rica . Nature lovers will enjoy seeing the flora and fauna that are 'off the highway"

We visited here before the death march down to Bijagual. You can see the top portion of the waterfall but at least you can cross it off the list without killing yourself. The gardens themselves are beautiful and you do not get a guide for the tour admission fee. If you are interested in tropical gardens, then you'll love this place.
There is a trail that takes you down along a little stream and you can see some dart frogs. It's a good hike for kids around 6 and up. It's a short hike so it's manageable. There is a restaurant there also for lunch. It's a pretty fun drive to get there, so it's a good afternoon trip.

We were greatly disappointed by the size and quality of these "gardens". It really seems to me now that the grand reviews on this site are done by the owners themselves or their associates. There is no way anyone would come away from this place and call it anything but an over-stated tourist trap. The garden is nicely maintained but is scant and void of any wild life such as birds. There is NO waterfalls...there is a path way through the jungle that ends at a very small brook and is not at all worth the effort to walk down to it. The place is a rip-off at $20 per person. We spent 30 minutes walking around, believing there had to be more to it...but there wasn't!

We visited Pura Vidal Gardens/Waterfall as part of an expedition while doing a Panama cruise aboard Cunard's Queen Elizabeth. Although the day was very hot, it was cool and relaxing touring the beautiful gardens. We enjoyed lunch very much. David Stannard is very personable and welcomed us like we were old friends.

A little expensive at $20/person but what a beautiful place and so well maintained. We came after an extensive hike down to the base of the waterfall so we were extremely tired and didn't take as much time to visit as we should have. The grounds are immaculate and it would have been nice to know what some of the plants were. I think it is worth the money and the drive to see such beauty!
